Someone Said there's a total of 33 at the moment.
How so many? Easy. market logics. Anything that can be packaged can be sold off to a willing buyer right.
In the info tech domain they have 4 or 5 ...electronic doc mng and prep. IT, digital media, computer science...I lost count.

This huge number of subjects is madness.
If I remeber correctly, when I did GCE A levels...we had 3 x 3hr papers in Chem and Physics on separate days plus practical exams on separate days...I don't remember how many papers I wrote for Pure and Applied Maths..

School Based Assessments or SBAs have been a part of the CXC examinations assessment structure since its first set of examinations in 1979. These assessments account for 40 per cent of a student’s final grade and apply to both the Caribbean Secondary Certificate (CSEC) examinations and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). 5 O'levels or CXC get you into University, so the additional 22 is for bragging rights. And these subjects are expensive. Back in my days people had to take out loans for them little 8 or 9 subjects, I cant imagine the costs of 27 and where are they getting the money.

In reading this thread, it is clear that what is going on in Guyana is unknown to even the Guyanese on this board.
The reason why Guyanese students are taking 27 subjects is because of the scholarships offered to students winning CXC prizes.They get a free tuition scholarship at UWI for 4 years.
Guyanese students have regularly won this prize.I remember back in 2010 a Queens College student won the CXC prize after obtaining 18 Grade 1's and the prize giving ceremony was in the Cayman Islands and he was provided with his ticket but his mother could not afford the ticket and several of us QC Alumni paid for it and sent her with him.They had to overnight in Jamaica and the GT mafia in Kingston took care of them.Today that young man is a Physician.

They would not provide free tertiary education to UWI but to UG and many students prefer to go to a University that is recognized around the world.
