It is beyond my comprehension how a youth can store so much information in their short term memory to pass so many exams in such a short period
THIS IS INSANITY!!!!!!
Check on these guys in 10 years time.
Even better, go back 10 years and check on those that wrote more than 20 subjects and see where they are today.
I bet they struggle to tie their shoe lace .
apparently there is some race between ARMS and QC - someone said it's the best kept secret in town
what did LFS know when he was creating them MSs

This is child abuse!

Standards perhaps drop these days, not as challenging as back in the past, I assume!
The Multilateral school must be a top-notch one in Guy!
My first question is how do they avoid exam timetabling conflicts?
In reply to doosra Combine an undergraduate and a graduate degree and they dont add-up to 27 distinct subjects, even with each in a different major. So whats that about?
In reply to doosra
I still want to know how they come up with so many subjects

Someone Said there's a total of 33 at the moment.
How so many? Easy. market logics. Anything that can be packaged can be sold off to a willing buyer right.
In the info tech domain they have 4 or 5 ...electronic doc mng and prep. IT, digital media, computer science...I lost count.
Same in the sciences
Bio
Chem
Phys
Inte science
Agri.science
Human and social bio
Environmental something
Etc

I believe tho not entirely sure...that if there's a class cxc will allow for a staggered sitting...write 1 then the other right after...
...And these subjects not cheap to tek.

How many for Math and English?
Are the exams all MCQs? Any online exams?
what percentage of the exam is allocated to course work during the academic year?
This huge number of subjects is madness.
If I remeber correctly, when I did GCE A levels...we had 3 x 3hr papers in Chem and Physics on separate days plus practical exams on separate days...I don't remember how many papers I wrote for Pure and Applied Maths..
!5 subjects in CAPE???
In reply to carl0002
they not free? They're free in trinidad. I know the cost is usually around 34 US per subject
In reply to Jumpstart
Free at private schools too?

Is this a Guyana thing?
I don't know of any other Caribbean territory where students write, far less pass so many subjects.
5 O'levels or CXC get you into University, so the additional 22 is for bragging rights. And these subjects are expensive. Back in my days people had to take out loans for them little 8 or 9 subjects, I cant imagine the costs of 27 and where are they getting the money.
In reading this thread, it is clear that what is going on in Guyana is unknown to even the Guyanese on this board.
The reason why Guyanese students are taking 27 subjects is because of the scholarships offered to students winning CXC prizes. They get a free tuition scholarship at UWI for 4 years.
Guyanese students have regularly won this prize.I remember back in 2010 a Queens College student won the CXC prize after obtaining 18 Grade 1's and the prize giving ceremony was in the Cayman Islands and he was provided with his ticket but his mother could not afford the ticket and several of us QC Alumni paid for it and sent her with him. They had to overnight in Jamaica and the GT mafia in Kingston took care of them.Today that young man is a Physician.

Makes sense now!
But I'm pretty sure that within the next 1/2 decade the Guyana govt will provide free tertiary education to any citizen who wants it!
In reply to VIX
They would not provide free tertiary education to UWI but to UG and many students prefer to go to a University that is recognized around the world.
In reply to carl0002
Well in Jamaica govt subsidizes certain subjects once you maintain a particular average.
