Remembering the great Peter Tosh
In reply to Chrissy
Fools Die always gives me goosebumps.Even for those who don't like
the lyrics of Stand Firm will have to agree that the lead-guitar is
one of the best piece of lead instrumentalization on any recorded tune.

Indeed. Monumental day in 1987
.
Peter Tosh was better at militancy than he was at music.
His message was conscious. I appreciate that.
I wasn't impressed by his compositions or the band that supported him. I know he had a following.
There's a reason he's not at the Bob level. Not close. Ever.
That said, Respect to him.
Tough, yes, sorry. Quality musician.
In reply to Curtis Would posit that "Get Up Stand Up" reflected more Tosh than Marley (Know they are both credited as joint songwriters).
While "You cant Blame the Youth" was quality material for many a Sunday Morning sermon.
Give Peter Tosh a little more credit than Militancy. His, was not feel good ditties.
I will never forget that Friday night!!!!
In reply to Curtis
Peter Tosh was a flat out great musician. Arguably the best from Jamaica.
Yeah, there's a reason he's not close to Bob's level, and it has nothing to do with quality. Aight?
I understand personal preference but you are grossly mistaken regarding both his ability and works.
a. Tosh is a formally coached Musician organ and guitar.
b. Bob had both Peter and Band-Leader arranger Family-man Barret to flesh out his tunes.Peter for example gets no
credit for arranging the music for 'No Woman Nuh Cry'
c. Peter's catalog has more spiritual/religious works than Bobs (we can count them together when you're ready)
d. To say any iteration of WORD SOUND AND POWER was not at the level of Wailers band is madness especially the 1st version
that had Sly, Robbie et al. Are you saying men like Mikey Chung, Robby Lyn, Al Anderson aren't some of reggae's greatest?
When Santa and Fully Fullwood replaced Sly n Robbie the band was just as good!!! Curts, did you ever see Peter Live, do you
know that Word Sound n Power out-did Wailers band at Peace Concert even with the fantastic horns section of The Wailers??
I think you are mistaken regarding the observation above. But I think Peter says it better below in I AM THAT I AM'
Don't underestimate my ability
Don't denigrate my character
Don't belittle my Authority
Its time you recognized my quality

Peter's response to a question- 'How di *&^%$# I n I mus' sing Dahling I 98765 Love You' when people are starving and dying?
He did kinda sing a love song with Gwen Guthrie though and Don't Look Back with Jagger

Well said
I been meaning to revisit Tosh's work, and damn sure he doesn't need my opinion to validate his great body of work.
Let me revisit.
In reply to Brerzerk
Peter went off the deep end in the latter part of his career! Marley's 'color' got him places, but his work is also top-notch!

Yeah, there's a reason he's not close to Bob's level, and it has nothing to do with quality. Aight?
this is sometin we both agree on that Tosh was a master musician and your great love for Sudden.
In reply to Curtis
You are usually spot on with Reggae music sah...but this one ...nah sah. I do get weird stares when I tell people if you put a gun to my head and I had to make the tough choice of favorite...I would go with Peter.
In reply to Cheeks
Best voice of the three and clearly the best musician as well
In reply to Curtis
Peter Tosh was a teacher of music. The others in the band were his students.
In reply to Cheeks
110 % , I told friend the same thing.
In reply to Curtis
me know bluntly..yuh no go through 1/5 of the tribulation i go through... cause right now, only you name would be here.
Peter Tosh..the Stepping Razor. Folks were more comfortable with Marley, but Tosh is a boss

I think differently, without the training to do so I believe he had some signs of Schizophrenia
and I also think weed can enhance that (not qualified to really know). No Nuclear War his last album suggests
he was as sane as anyone could be. While waiting for fish boat to come in at Greenwich Farm he expressed to
my brother his frustration with the legal fight to release it. Curt, yes go back and have a listen. Witch Doctor
has been remastered. Peter's music arrangement is much more complex than the regular 'One Drop' and Roots Reggae
rhythms. The Man of The Past, Walking In The Present, and Living In The Future
