With half CPL almost done its a sad situation that not very many of those taking part warrant a trip to Ozzie land ..
Al Jo is perhaps the only sure pick .. none other seems that way ..
Sad state of affair ....
Dont mention King , Powell , Fletcher not Charles .. their productivity reflects the sad state we are in ..
The above mentioned 4 are proven failures at the international level ..
Maybe just putting names in a hat and picking from that will probably be the way to go ...
Maybe Kesrick name will get pulled

Sad indeed that the WC is imminent and these guys are not managing to be in form and consistent. Structure or not, Phil will be judged harshly if we embarrass the region in Oz.
In reply to Halliwell
Phil was judged harshly last year at the WC not because we did poorly but because of TEAM SELECTION. He was judged harshly even BEFORE the competition.
If the best team is picked(in the view of the experts,i.e we the people) he will not be harshly judged regardless of how we do.
In reply to CITYBOY
Kyle Mayers has put his hand up.
Rovman Powell has the attitude and can deliver.
Aleal Hosein would be a sure pick but is currently injured and nothing has been said about how serious the injury is...and if he is selected for the WC they better make sure he is fit.
As it stands...we may not qualify for the WC anyway.
Look at Lanka....they won the Asia cup and they have to qualify...and we are not even close to Lanka
The only sure pick to go on tour is ICM
In reply to Narper
You best post
The wicket conditions and size of the grounds must be taken into consideration.
The aerial route batsmen will be found out early.
I hope Holder finds some form, he would be the lead all rounder.
In reply to Dukes
We the people are best placed to select a team?
What is this? Popularity contest?
We the people include Jeremy, Allan, shivnotout, jumpstart, sarge, you, me etc?
How many of us here attend training sessions?
Actually informed about injury status?
One poster say nobody except AlJo performing and another saying he hopes Holder finds form because he can lead.
You cyah be serious.
Selection by mob consensus. We really reach yes.
In reply to imusic
I honestly meant lead all rounder
Fixed
Im not asking for him to take the captaincy
BTW
According to the experts, Holder shouldve been a sure pick last time.
Are you saying the experts were wrong?
Thats just one example of how screwed up the last squad was.
In reply to Raskil
The last squad was a poor selection. That is irrefutable.
Leaving Holder off of the squad entirely was a mistake.
But outside of the odd occasion, Holder has not had anywhere near the same success in LO cricket that hes had in red ball cricket.
His selection in LO cricket is more due to reputation than actual performance. In that he is by no means alone.
In reply to imusic
DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In reply to Raskil
Good observation.
This was a large part of our downfall at the last WC
The grounds we played on were larger and helped to minimize our six hitting.
Oz grounds will be no different.
Will be interesting to see what the batting strategy (if one exists) will be.
In reply to imusic
If it is to maximize the singles then we dead again.
Anyway it is all in de bats chosen for our batsmen...we have to make sure we use the bats dem injuns use...I see lil puny injuns flicking big sixes in the IPL...and hardly any sound coming from the bat
In years gone by when Viv Richards or Clive Lloyd hit a ball aerially...from the sound coming off the bat you done know it going out of any ground in the world
In reply to imusic
That being said, WI should go high risk high reward strategy in the power play.
Then come players who rotate strike and play spin well.
Load big hitters in the top 3 with license. That would mean the likes of Pooran and Hetie bat slightly lower.
In reply to Raskil
Where are you going to find these ...chap?
Over a decade they looking for these
In reply to Narper
Might be more to maximize 2s and 3s
Which means fit batsmen who can rotate strike and put the ball in spaces.
Of our eligible crop, players that come to mind are:
Blackwood
Carty
Hope
Allen
Pooran is fast between the wickets but hes too in love with the aerial boundary ball.
In reply to imusic
Carty
Hope
Allen
None of the above deserve a place in the WC squad
Myers def in
Myers def in
In reply to Narper
Once fit, Allen will always be in my LO squad
I would not quarrel if Hope were selected.
In reply to imusic
Before this CPL, I would said the same...but he does not look the part so far in this CPL...with bat or ball.
In reply to Narper
I would pick him in my LO squad just for his fielding.
Modern day Roger Harper, way better bat
.about the same as a bowler.
In reply to imusic
Would you carry Hayden Walsh for his fielding...and leg spin?
In reply to Narper
I would carry Fabien Allen before Hayden Walsh every time.
I know a fit Akeal Hosein has supplanted Allen as the #1 spin option, and that Allen is also slow left arm orthodox, so no variety offered, but his fielding and batting (overall value to the team) outweighs that of Walshs IMO.
In reply to imusic
Its a risk worth taking with Fabian
Rest of the CPL plus qualifiers to catch form
In reply to imusic
Which WI batsman maximizes two's by running the first run very quickly????
Lemme see if allyuh really pay attention.
In reply to Dukes
Allen
Pooran.
Hety also. But he outta breath by the time he turn back for the 2nd
Cornwall has DaSilva run his singles for him
In reply to imusic
After every significant innings by a West Indian in T 20 cricket I look at singles, dot balls and two's so I know the facts.Clearly you guys do not do that.
In reply to Dukes
Define significant
In reply to imusic
More than 20 balls faced.
In reply to Dukes
So less than 20 balls faced
especially in the death overs
..cant be significant in your metric?

I am looking at batsmen. You can look at Shep and Russell and company slogging at the end.I am looking at batsmen who would win us matches in the WC,not people who would score 40 off 15 balls once every 15 innings.
In reply to Dukes
Interesting.
So Hety wouldnt qualify seeing that he plays the finisher role for WI and his IPL team.
Harsh if you ask me, but your decision.
In reply to imusic
Anybody who puts Hetty to play a finisher role for WI is a CRICKET DUNCE.
hetty is playing IPL for money so if he has to roll the pitch and they pay him a million dollars then no problem.
early congrats to sheldon cottrell and yannic cariah (yes I am suprise about this one)

Also thinking King for Lewis.
In reply to Dukes
Lol. Youre the self proclaimed cricketing Oracle.
BTW .which IPL teams are currently clamoring for the privilege of benefiting from your cricketing sagacity?
Go on wit yuh bad self
In reply to natty_forever Lewis strikes fear in the opposition. King not so much. I was looking to Walsh for his fielding in addition to his legbreaks. Hope they are effective. OK with Motie.
In reply to imusic
Are you telling us these players bring their train session to the game?I would not use the term Finisher, very few batsman can finish a games.
RTN was he a finisher or one of the Powerhitters?
Pollard and Russell, should stick to playing league cricket, they bring nothing to any team. when playing together.
In reply to openning
Relevance?
Russell hasnt been selected for WI since the last WC
Pollard has retired from International cricket.
In reply to imusic
The relevance is that hes on shift.
Somebody has to man the Mercenaries Narrative Train, as it must run 24/7

When people ignore the data and disregard common sense it is because of their ARROGANCE.Their attitude that they have some innate knowledge superior to the evidence.
They are the arrogant ones not me.

Someone to play a steady hand.

CPL is the only measurement available for selection. ... its a weak let me be blunt ... a very weak competition .. with a lot of the WI players past it ... internationally ..
And those that are putting some numbers up just reflects how weak it is ..
But hey we have to send a team and at this juncture it appears the selectors are PHUCKED ..
Al jo is now joined by Mayers as deserving ...
How do you pick a keeper ?? Most behind the stumps are foreign ..
Oh well...
Based on the current trend I do not disapprove of posters calling for their homies ....
Simply .... the current crop of players are just gaddam awful
In reply to CITYBOY
CPL proves that theyre fit and have some sort of form
The team is not terrible, however I felt Motie with his height on those pitches wouldve been effective.
Still a night and day move vs the last team.
I wish them luck!
Situations like this is where turning over the strike is important .
20 singles wouldve made a difference even when wickets are falling.
