the size of Australia's grounds

bird 2022-09-15 20:41:36

should be a major concern to WI batters they depend on hitting lots of sixes and are not good at working the ball around, style of batting can not be changed overnight, the question is, how do they counteract that

The size of the ground is not necessarily where the ropes are.The dimensions will be similar to what they experience in the IPL for example.

If the wood big and thick enough, it can clear any ground no matter what the circumference or dimensions are… lol lol lol

Australia is the home team, the large grounds is to their advantage I don't those ropes will come in

Bigger grounds also means bigger gaps in the field!!! You would have to be extremely unlucky to hit the ball straight to a fielder albeit I can see that happening to Hettie & Pooran!!!

Quite frankly that don’t suit our game at all……even our stroke makers hit regularly to fielders…….Darren bravo is chief among them. The last gap bisectors we had were Lara and Sarwan. The consequences of destroying Gayle’s excellent 2009 team are still with us

England and South Africa...and were always competitive in ODIS..now we only play tests against fellow minnows, and are the BIGGEST minnow in ODIs

Probably because the team didn’t have a heavy bajan presence you missed it…… but this was the first team in 11 years to beat England in a test series on the back of Taylor’s 80s-esque demolition of them in Sabina. It is also the team that would have beaten Australia at home if it wasn’t for some dodgy decisions by Billy Bowden. In the last test, the game was decided by a ridiculous decision by Bowden, which even Wisden(no fans of the WI since the 80s) called ridiculous when both roach and tongue were set and we know roach has no problem finishing chases.

If beating England in the Caribbean is the measure of excellence, then we have had other excellent teams since 2009 smile But kindly share with us the world ranking of this supposedly excellent 2009 team you referenced ...

Homie that was a side with Harmison, Flintoff(who went on to play a big role in them winning the ODI series that followed), Anderson, Ryan SB, Grame Swann and Monty Panesar…….much better than any attack England would have brought here on the next two visits in 2015 and 2019

As revisionist as Barbados’ “principled” boycott of the 1992 SA test match. Their commitment to a nonracial world is so admirable. How come Madiba and Desmond Tutu forget to giv allyuh a shout-out like Dey give Viv? Amandla

Your predilection towards deflection is well known. So since you ignored my request, should I assume that your "excellent" 2009 WI team was ranked somewhere below #7. It was an "error" filled with excellent teams, right Jumpy? smile

Doesn’t mean they weren’t good homie. Holder’s teams have perpetually been at number 8 and you guys exploded over beating the second poorest english team to visit these shores(2022 being the poorest) and saying some kind of revival was under way. Let me remind you that I’m 2009…..the bowling comprised of Fidel, Jerome Taylor, Kemar Roach, Ravi Rampaul……..with Shanon Gabriel waiting in the wings and Holder to make his debut at the end of 2013. That is five quality pavement with one on the way. The batsmen were gayle(who scored two hundreds in Australia and two in the wisden triumph), Sarwan, who scored over 600 runs in that wisden series win, chanderpaul(mr consistent). That is better than anything the WI have fielded in the last 13 years. In my opinion, that is much better than a WI team relying on Miguel Cummins to take wickets or RTN to do both. Or relying on Shia hope and Kraigg(both who average below 35)

Your word was "excellent", not "good". Perhaps you got a little carried away. But in my mind a #8 ranking is a sign of a below average or poor team. We have been poor for quite some time. Guess the last time we were ranked higher than #6 smile

Exactly - excepting Aus, NZ and SA all other teams could suffer because of the size of the grounds.
India has packed quite a few veterans - would be interesting.
Fitness will play a major part in Aus setting.
