I am yet to be convinced that. Pooran is captaincy material and with his persistent failures during this CPL, there's even greater pressure on him than he could bear.
The fact that the authorities could not convince the TKR management to relieve an overrated non performing bully in Pollard of the team's captaincy and give it to Pooran may well speak to their lack of confidence in his ability in that area.
However the fact is Pooran has been appointed cappo of the World Cup team and thus he needs the experience to help him improve so every effort must be made to give him this much needed experience.
It is not too late for the franchise to make the switch if it has any interest in the development of WI cricket. TKR still have a minimum of 2 and maximum of four matches to play.... and it's not like Pollard 's captaincy has brought anything special to TKR' s fortunes.

Pooran and captaincy

Reward failure?

CPL is business, not sport! Ah well, let me take that back - it's a business sport!
In reply to Hendra
If he were captain of the TKR he would've performed better.
He looks intimidated by the presence of the bully, Pouty.

I get your point but I'm looking at the bigger picture. - - WI cricket. He is the WI cappo and needs the experience. It's either you relieve him of the captaincy or give him the opportunities to improve. You should not deprive him of the opportunity at the lower level and expect him to perform at the higher level. Doesn't work that way.

The problem is that CPL is not run by CWI.
Pooran was captain of the GAW but the GAW management wanted to put Hetty as captain.GAW management also wanted Pooran to stay but Pooran refused to play under Hetty. He then explored returning to Barbados Royals but again the sticking point was captaincy.Eventually he decided that since none of the 3 teams he wanted to play for wanted him as their captain he might as well return home.
I tried to tell people this months ago.

Look at the body language and the play of Pooran, Hetty, and Keemo.
They all walking around with big head these days. Really terrible to see in young cricketers.

2 Questions
1.Which head you talking about?
2.Didn't all 3 get married recently?
In reply to Dukes
Fair points.
Hetty and Keemo married some local tails and Pooran married Jesus.
In reply to Dukes
How do you rate him as a cappo is what I want to know? Weve all seen enough to have an opinion.
In reply to Hendra
Pooran can't even buy a run this CPL.....i don't think having him as captain in the WC is a good idea.

What always troubled me was that he was acknowledged as the best Under 19 batsman in the T&T team, yet was never made the captain. That troubled me as particularly in age group team sport, your best player is usually the captain unless they are ill suited to leadership. It is like a default position for the best batsman in a cricket team.
That was my first instinct when he was named WI white ball captain.
The second worrying thing was his performance as captain of the GAW. He seemed reactive rather than proactive and lacked the personality to stamp his authority on the team.Granted it was difficult to captain the team when it seemed obvious that the players appeared to be more inclined to listen to Hetty rather than him but nevertheless he needed to be in charge.
The third thing is his reactions on the field when players mess up.He was instinctively harsh with glares and hand gestures which embarrassed the players. As captain you have to start off with the premise that they are trying their best and if they make a mistake they would be embarrassed and would thereafter attempt to atone for their mistakes by hopefully doing better next time thew ball comes to them or after they bowl a no-ball or a long hop or full toss.By publicly humiliating them you are unlikely to inspire them to do better.
Fourthly his interaction with the press after defeats is never about him making common sense observations but silly sophomoric remarks about fighting harder next time.He never takes personal responsibility. When a captain says, our batsmen did not bat properly especially me, that sends a message to the team that he is fair minded and recognizes that he was also part of the problem and engenders respect from his team.
Fifthly,I never hear him explain his tactics. Now,if you say we felt that with their team having 5 left handers, we felt that we would be better off attacking them early with our off-spinner Jimbo and with the small section of the ground being the eastern section with the small leg side boundary it would be better if he bowled from the Andy Roberts end.Unfortunately it did not work out that way and Dickwella played a blinder( Totally made up but you get the picture). Actually 4 & 5 are different sides of the same problem, so really there are 4 issues.
NEVER THROW YOUR PLAYERS UNDER THE BUS.
Overall I do not think he is necessarily a bad captain, just he has a lot to learn. I also think watching Polly's approach is not helpful for him.
In reply to Dukes
your last sentence...
he needs to "unloose" himself from whatever influence Pollard has had on him..in fact they all do...they seem to worship Pollard
and be his own person...
and let me go a bit further...because Pollard has this bullyish attitude to other players, they may not warm up to him if they perceive he is a Polly bai

Maybe I put it indelicately.
He was reluctant to play under Hetty because the optics would look terrible.
Whenever I write certain things, you can be assured it is based on inside knowledge and not on speculation on my part.If I am speculating I would say so.
I AM NOT SPECULATING NOW

It ism like saying Trump is an honest man because he has never been convicted of anything or proven to have done anything wrong.
Dukes, you have provided a perspective which was as I asked so thank you.
I remember telling you before Pollard was made a captain that they needed to bring Hetmyer into the leadership setup to mature him. You told me at the time he was not ready for a number of reasons on and off the field. So be it, maybe you have been proven correct.
There is a reason why Hetmyer is an outsider in West Indies cricket and that shift was orchestrated IMO long before his supposed love for franchise cricket or his issues with his fitness.
When I look at Pooran, I dont see a captain that has an identity of his own IMO. In this TKR set up with Pollard in charge he looks like a lost soul trying to be relevant. Just my honest take. There is nothing that he has said or done as a Windies cappo that leads me to think that he is this forward thinking leader of men. He was clearly elevated to lead by design.
Even in a struggling GAW Hetmyer does not look Ill at ease. Some players just wear the hat better.
Im evaluating all of them as we do have a dearth or real leaders. I look forward to Dappa Mayers taking over at the Royals. He has always been a leader of men and he does it as with everything on the front foot and his way. No suggesting that he should replace anyone, i just want to see how these players demonstrate their skills and if they can benefit West Indies Cricket in the long run.
The real agendas are not carried out by rum shop fans who quarrel and bicker. These agendas play out well and truly beyond the boundary and well after hours because monies and reputations are at stake.
In reply to Hendra
I did not even consider this until you mentioned it.
IF Pooran was worthy...why not let him lead the TKR?
unless the franchise dictates WHO they want as Cappo
