In 1976 Jamaica launched a major communication campaign to convert to the metric system of measurement
sadly by then I was too long in the tooth to grasp the concept..the only people who made the adjustment were those selling that white powdery stuff(and I aint talking about flour)
When I travel around Europe everyone talks in metric
thankfully Uncle Sam is set in his ways and thats how I roll
In reply to Dukes km to miles...divide the kilometers by 1.6 or multiply it by 0.621!
Ps. Miles to kilometers, multiply miles by 1.6!
Million (well, not so much) question - why 1500 meters race & not 1609 meters? Isn't 800 meters the approximate half mile?!
Most will be familiar with some variation of:
Think of a number (x).
Double it. (2x)
Add 20. (2x + 20)
Divide by 2. (x + 10)
Subtract the number you first thought of. (10)
The answer is 10. 'And that's magic!'
How much of the education system is really just a sophisticated version of the above?
In reply to BeatDball
simply multiply by 5 and divide by 8
In reply to Dukes Skites bai - tea & water!
Ps. Let everybloody know that it's always a close approximation whenever you cuntvert!
SRS's proprietor gave me this....add your age to the year you are born - whayuhget?!
In reply to BeatDball
No big deal that. One's age, by definition is the difference between one's birthdate and the current date. Duh!

150 km =93.75 miles?
In reply to tops 93.15, good?! Or 93.23!?
In reply to tops
Correct
Or 150 multiplied by 5 and divided by 8=93.75
144 div by 1.609 = 89.49 miles to two decimal places rounded to 89 miles.
153 km div by 1.609 = 93.22 rounded to 93 miles
In reply to TheTrail So yuh nah gwine round 1.609 to the nearest hundredths or to the nearest tenths? Make it 1.61 or 1.6 - just to be expedient?! Wait, you're bang on - calculate with 1.609 which is the almost exact equivalent of a mile, then round....which would give a more precise ansa! You're a scoundrel, aren't you!?
