Dukes 2022-09-20 22:00:57

144 kilometers to miles

Divide 144 by 2= 72
Divide 72 by 4= 18
72+ 18 = 90
144 kilometers = 90 miles

120 =??

120 divided by 2=60
60 divided by 4=15
60+ 15= 75
120km=75 miles

In 1976 Jamaica launched a major communication campaign to convert to the metric system of measurement…sadly by then I was too long in the tooth to grasp the concept..the only people who made the adjustment were those selling that white powdery stuff(and I ain’t talking about flour)

When I travel around Europe everyone talks in metric…thankfully Uncle Sam is set in his ways and thats how I roll…

In reply to Dukes km to miles...divide the kilometers by 1.6 or multiply it by 0.621!

cool

Ps. Miles to kilometers, multiply miles by 1.6!

Million (well, not so much) question - why 1500 meters race & not 1609 meters? Isn't 800 meters the approximate half mile?!
confused

Most will be familiar with some variation of:

Think of a number (x).

Double it. (2x)

Add 20. (2x + 20)

Divide by 2. (x + 10)

Subtract the number you first thought of. (10)

The answer is 10. 'And that's magic!'

How much of the education system is really just a sophisticated version of the above?

No big deal that. One's age, by definition is the difference between one's birthdate and the current date. Duh!

big grin

In reply to tops

Correct

Or 150 multiplied by 5 and divided by 8=93.75

TheTrail 2022-09-21 19:26:39

144 div by 1.609 = 89.49 miles to two decimal places rounded to 89 miles.

153 km div by 1.609 = 93.22 rounded to 93 miles

BeatDball 2022-09-21 19:38:34

In reply to TheTrail So yuh nah gwine round 1.609 to the nearest hundredths or to the nearest tenths? Make it 1.61 or 1.6 - just to be expedient?! Wait, you're bang on - calculate with 1.609 which is the almost exact equivalent of a mile, then round....which would give a more precise ansa! You're a scoundrel, aren't you!?

big grin cool
