ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has today informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Shamarh Brooks has replaced Shimron Hetmyer in the West Indies Squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

The decision by the CWI Selection Panel was made as Shimron Hetmyer missed his re-scheduled flight to Australia, which had been changed from Saturday 1 October at his request, due to family reasons. With flight availability a real challenge, a seat was found for him to leave Guyana today, Monday 3 October, meaning he would unfortunately miss the 1st T20 International (T20I) against Australia on Wednesday 5 October at the Metricon Stadium. ​ This morning, Mr. Hetmyer, informed the Director of Cricket that he would not be able to get to the airport in time for his flight this afternoon to New York.

a next very talented WI player has fallen by the way side, I say that because I do not think this guy is serious about playing for WI, infact I don't think he can deal with the rigorous of international cricket

Exactly.He is a child. And I have stated here more than once that while he got credit as the Under 19 skipper the persons who actually led that team were Keemo Paul and Alzari Joseph. He had talent and should have been taken in hand with tough love. But instead as you have correctly stated too many enablers were around him.

Berbice nuh have airport however Hetmyer’s hotel suite in Georgetown was booked for a few extra days to allow for celebrations.

He should’ve been in Georgetown.

Im glad this is happening under Phil Simmons' watch because when Otis Gibson said out loud that they fellas have no interest in playing for the West Indies all of the Gayle, Narine, Russell etc fans were talking like they couldnt see that he was talking the truth.

There is no need for analysis. Its simple. These 20/20 players want us to think they want to play for West Indies but they dont. They just want to make the Board look bad to win the favor of fans but none of them care about WI cricket. Every cricket fan in the WI knows that Hetmyer rather be at home with his wife than be on the field for WI. There is tons of evidence to prove it. He has the money to do so if he wishes.

In my opinion that didn’t move the needle one bit. Our team didn’t get weaker with Hetty out and we didn’t get better with Brooks addition. With Hetmyer in I was not too optimistic about getting qualified and with him out now I still don’t feel any different. To me it’s zero plus zero is zero just as zero plus zero is still zero. It’s a very poor team Sir Desmond Haynes and company gave us and expectations are very low.
