many may not remember Amla was not a success early in his career, could have been easily discarded but was persisted with
and became one of the greats of SA batting, credit must be given to the selectors for sticking with him

They had to keep him. Not enough players of color around to replace him then. Worked out well for SA.

They persisted with him because he was an absolute runs machine in the domestic competition for the Dolphins.
Kallis averaged 8 or so in his first 5 games and managed to average 55 by the end of it.
