Jamaica Squad - West Indies Regional 4 day
In reply to robbo
Big bad Leroy in deh suh. Gud
Where is Jordan Johnson? What kinda backward selection is this?
Is Mansingh any good or is this a nepotistic pick?
In reply to FanAttick
Was wondering about Johnson myself. I know that they have played a number of trial matches over the last few weeks, but details have been sketchy with no team sheets and scorecards so Im not sure whether hes been trialled and just not performed.
The other thing that strikes me is, are there no young pace bowlers in Jamaica coming through?
In reply to FanAttick
So the long distance flyer, Mindley is in and can't make WI squad even with Phillip and Seales out ?
OK so Derval Green is now history.
I guess the better players are playing football and basketball .
If his team scores over 200 against any team then its time they bury cricket in the region.
In reply to robbo
In reply to hubert
Im not sure who is who in this squad
aside from Derval Green another notable omission is Nicholson Gordon
.seems a very weak team
.
In reply to hubert
Anything is possible with Big Bad Leroy in the squad.
Lugg is going to kill some bowling team, preferably lousy Bim
In reply to sudden
Lugg . Why abbreviate luggage ?
In reply to hubert
No love for Lugg, Hubie?
I hope I dont have to say I told you so
In reply to FanAttick
Where is Jordan Johnson? What kinda backward selection is this?
Can you tell us what his scores were in the trials prior to the naming of the squad? Could you also tell us who was selected in the squad whose scores were poorer than him?
Can you tell me how he did in the trial matches recently and who he should replace?
In reply to Dukes
I asked three questions and instead of providing answers you responded with three more questions?
In reply to robbo
Century makers: Durval Green and Javour Royal are NOT SELECTED?
In reply to sudden
You could and that would be good...seems he is the best player on this squad and
that's no joke.
In reply to FanAttick
You did not ask 3 questions. You made statements in the form of questions such as Do you still beat your wife!!!!!!!!
I am very concerned about this squad, sumtin wong. Palmer is really the only one suitable for captaincy but the last time he was captain, he refused to score any runs but with this very weak team, he will have to make a ton of runs for Jamaica to be competitive in any regional match. Might as well, they use some of the winning T20 team members.
Kirk time now
In reply to robbo
Poor team.... would be last....
In reply to FanAttick
Nepotistic.
In reply to buds
Thanks. Thats the answer to my 3rd question .
To his credit though he is apparently a leg spinning allrounder so I dont know if there were other leg spinning allrounder contenders of some repute
Gleaner breaks down the squad
Key takeaways:
Gordon is injured but Dennis Bulli being overlooked is quite strange because he was our main threat last season with his left arm mystery spin
According to Nikita Miller
Shields is the sharpest and quickest of the lot and we think he will offer something that we didnt have for a while in our squad. He picked up some wickets in the practice games and he is very much in form.
If batting prowess is what tipped the scales in favor of Mansingh we already have Jamie Merchant who is a capable lower order batter so unless Mansingh has the potential to be as good as Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja his selection is quite strange
Im pleased to hear that Shields is quick Ill be watching him with an eagle eye
Is Oshane Thomas still playing cricket?
In reply to FanAttick
Oshane Thomas was playing T/20s in Sri Lanka just before Christmas.
From the reports from the trial/practice matches it was Lugg, McKenzie and Thomas who scored the runs with contributions from Williams and Morris. Spin bowlers got amongst the wickets and Ojay Shields was impressing with his pace.
Surprised Green isn't in the squad and it does look to be lacking middle-order batters.
In reply to robbo
I assume Brandon King isn't there because he's in the limited overs squad for South Africa....
But the first ODI isn't until March 16. Why isn't he playing four-day cricket before then?
Dont write off Jamaica. They also had a weak team on paper for the CPL and ODI and look what happened. Would be nice for them to do the hattrick of titles
In reply to Yadi
Jeavor Royal made a century? When? Where? He does not look like he can hold a bat.
In reply to VoopsandOut
Paul Palmer is not inspirational or inspire confidence like RPowell. I have no idea why they would in-trust Palmer with the captaincy again after his past failures.
In reply to buds
Durval Green also made a century..
In reply to mikesiva
He is playing in the ILT20....earning some big $.
In reply to newdread
12 mil or thereabouts?
In reply to Yadi
Ok. They must be on reserve?
What about Bulli
Where are Greene and Bulli? Both seemingly were on the road towards at least an A-team call up, now dropped from JA team? Makes no sense to me.
In reply to Yadi
I looking for Leroy to put some serious hurt on some bowlers. Hope the ambulances are well stocked.
Aldaine Thomas is one to watch also. Palmer is no leader or Captain. Smh.
In reply to Slipfeeler
With a squad like this Green would have been the obvious choice as captain.
Maybe he has retired. News out of the Yard is very sparse where cricket is concerned
and coverage virtually non existent.
Newspaper of days gone by would have at least one reporter on the cricket beat.
Its indeed a different world.
In reply to hubert
True. Not even scores of the trial matches. A sorry state.
In reply to VoopsandOut

Thank you. They were rediculed before the ODI series (the name Slipfielder comes to mind) even when I made the point that the absence of experienced players was an opportunity for the youngsters to shine.
In reply to Headley
Do you think Captain Powell had much to do with how JA performed? And do you think Palmer is capable or as inspirational as Powell in getting the players to punch above their weight? NTM, performed (Palmer) as credible as Powell?
I am not writing off JA but, just cautious. Go JA.
In reply to Headley
The bat of big bad Leroy will lead the yardies to the promise land, he is from Trent St. James and a true Mapleite.
In reply to tc1
I hope so. I am hoping he put some serious licks on the local bowlers this season. He does not play around. He will have to watch his shot selection.
In reply to buds
In reply to tc1
Not selecting Bulli was not a good move.
JA starting line-up:
Leroy
KMcKenzie
AWilliams
PPalmer
AThomas
RMorris
JMerchant
AMansingh
PHarty
OShields
Mindley
JA batting short bad.
In reply to buds
Bulli is a good bowler
In reply to Headley
Psychological pressure motivated the players to success, lets keep up the pressure.
In reply to tc1
When was the last time St. James produced a national cricket player? In that case he will get the Slipfeeler full support.
In reply to Slipfeeler
Of all the omissions that name is a surprise. He looked like he could serve JA well.
In reply to buds
Seems like Mansingh did reasonably well during the trials
In reply to FanAttick
I hope he does well. Plus, I was looking at the JA batting line up and it looks very short so after reading that he considers himself as an all rounder then I am not as concerned, However, still not confident of JA's batting. Nor am I confident in Paul Palmer's batting or captaincy!
They should have given the captaincy to Aldaine Thomas. Watch him to score some big runs.
In reply to buds
The end of McCarthy's fc career?
In reply to WICFan
Maybe he is still good for the One Dayers and T20(CPL). I think he could have made it much further.
In reply to newdread
What happen to Greene....
In reply to newdread
Thanks for that....Pity, because it would've been good to see King in the four-day side!
It seems Mansingh has justified his selection. I hope he continues to do well.
What happen to the fast bowler Thomas?
Was he a flash in the pan?
In reply to jacksprat
I understand he played in the Yardie trials but wasnt impressive
they say his fitness or lack thereof, is still problematic
In reply to FanAttick
Thanks.
If after all these years his fitness is still suspect, tnen one must question his commitment.
Thank you. They were rediculed before the ODI series (the name Slipfielder comes to mind) even when I made the point that the absence of experienced players was an opportunity for the youngsters to shine.
I wrote the above earlier in this thread. It is not because I have any deep knowledge of the players. It is because I feel that there are no irreplaceable men. Once a team begins to achieve a reasonable standard players coming into the team can sense that they need to perform or soon make way. This Ja team can do well but they may need to replace Palmer (as captain) FOR THE SECOND TIME.
