I am no captain, yet I could do a better job.
They should sack him after this game and give it to AThomas.

Such is the state of cricket in Jamaica, none of the two major newspapers even bother to report the scores of the match between Jamaica and Leewards and of course there are no online links.

Got to watch this JA batting and Lugg in particular.

First observation though is about the spacing of the slip fielders...far too close together and
Big Corn should be further back than the others for the new ball

hubert 2023-02-03 16:33:37

In reply to Chrissy

Was impressed with his calm demeanor a he entered the fray with Jamaica in a very precarious situation
after Lugg's effort. He carried the lower order bating to a reasonable score given the wobbly batting and his
wicket taking to means that he can become useful allrounder.

Hope he continues to better things.Jamaica surely needs players like him.

In reply to FanAttick

Congrats to Mansingh for an excellent effort to gain a draw for Jamaica.
Five wickets and two scores of 50 with an unbeatenn one at the end says it all.

BUT they can thank Hamilton for the favourable result for Jamaica.
I watched in dismay all day seeing this captain wasting so much time on the field,,between overs, during overs and
other times too when he should have been in control with urgency to the cause. Blame those who made him captain
This shpuld have been a comfortable win for the Leewards.

He could have had at least five more overs in the time allotted before the rain mercifully intervened.
Although Hamilton messed up, too often the Jamaica batters were ultra defensive..Too many off volleys were patted down to close fielders..
They should no have allowed so many fieldr to field so comfortably near the bat when gifted deliveries are on offe.
All it should have taken were carpeted shots to the outfield making the fielders chase and retrieve. from outfield,
a factor that would also eats up time.
But all's well that ends well...thanks Mansingh and to Hammy.
We will all learn, I hope.

Excellent summary - mediocre cricket

FanAttick 2023-02-04 22:22:50

In reply to Chrissy

It becomes clearer by the day that one of the main contributing factors to the demise of WI cricket is that regional cricketers generally lack critical thinking skills…they don’t have situational awareness…

The way Mansingh constructed his inning shows that he possesses above average intelligence….

WI needs to start over by building from the grassroots players who are both technically and academically inclined….

hubert 2023-02-04 22:30:11

In reply to Chrissy

Mansingh, in demeanor ,approach ,strokepplay, calmness etc reminds me of one Joe Stanislaus Solomon the
solid Guyana/West Indies batter back in the day..I think Joe is 92 if he is still with us.
Hope Mansingh continues to develop as he is a breath of fresh air amid much mediocrity/confusion in Jamaica's cricket.
A real surprise package he is.

Do not forget the dunce JA captain! He should have taken the new ball instead of gifting the LI 100 plus runs. JHamilton is a dunce captain also.
Big up Mansighn. Great find by JA.

I disagree - youngsters are not learning basic technique - you don't even see them playing in the streets or in open spaces. You play what you see and they don't see cricket - it's mostly pay for view outside of SDC. Some schools can't even field a decent XI.
