In reply to WICFan
Bonner dropped. WTF
In reply to FanAttick
Have to fit as many Bajans in as possible.
In reply to WICFan
This team selection is very poor.....it might or not succeed against Zimbabwe......but against top team, will implode......too many half cricketers....Chase, Mayers, Reifer...non can bat nor can bowl against top teams...
In reply to WICFan
Test matches are for specialist....not make shift...
Who de ass believes Reifer is a number 3 test batsman?!
Good to see Motie included. I expect Gabriel might be rotated in for the 2nd test.

This is the kind of batting where you just check the scorecard now ,and then without bothering to watch play.

Perhaps this is a strategy to tire the bowlers, keep wickets in hand and then go for the onslaught to reach a massive score .

Mercifully, Nature halts the torture.
Solid day thus far from W.I. 112/0 is a great start although it would be nice if the run rate was higher. Paint was fortunate not to be given out for a delivery that looked like it would have hit the stumps. To be fair, DRS should be standard in any international match. Zimbabwe will feel hard done by the decision. Hopefully, Paint and Tage can go on to make big scores. I certainly hope that Tage will use this opportunity to get his maiden test century.
Covers coming off.
It ain't pretty and extremely boring but it is effective!!!

250 for 9 would have been better
In reply to sudden
Judging by our number 3 batter if one of the openers gets out we may well end up at 250 for 9 lol
In reply to sudden
When dem man out you can still get your wish!
In reply to sudden
You can't be serious sudden. Yes the run rate could be higher but it is a solid start. Time spent at the crease is important and the more time Zimbabwe is in the field, the easier it becomes to score. We should be looking to make a huge total, putting our opponents under pressure. If you said 250/5 I would take that but not 250/9. Also, Taylor and Raza are out of the squad due to injury which means their batting has been weakened. Despite this, NEVER underestimate an opponent. It is imperative that we get a strong first innings score.
Why Reifer ahead of Tbomas? How is that possible besides he being Bajan? Ridiculous.
In reply to Mustwin
Budget brand for budget brand
No difference
In reply to Mustwin
Id like someone to explain the rational of Reifer at 3. I cant think of one good reason why Reifer should occupy that position or any other position in the line up.
In reply to Mustwin
Because Tbomas not playing.

In reply to Wasp
What really is the plan
Coach's instructions.
New guy has the job on a temp basis and i am sure he is planning to keep it permanently. Losing against Zim will not enhance that plan and at worse a draw may suffice.
The plan is to put yourself in a position where you can't lose first then go for the win at the back end.
Did i get it right?
In reply to sudden
All I want is for our team to win. That is all that matters when it comes to the West Indies. 112/0 is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat like Tony the Tiger's Frosted Flakes.

10:10 am: The umpires are out for an inspection. The pitch and the square looks fine, but they seem to be a bit worried about the outfield.
10 am: Better news, almost all the covers have been removed now. Only the pitch remains under a blue sheet and tarpaulins. The sun is trying to break out, but there's a massive band of dark clouds moving towards the ground. Hopefully, it'll not bring any rain

West Indies vs Zimbabwe, West Indies in Zimbabwe, 1st Test 2.26pm Looks like we might have a start after all. The pitch is getting ready and the stumps put in place. The few spectators, who have waited patiently all this while too have gathered some voice. Official word is that the players will take tea at 2.40pm and play will resume at 3.00pm. A total of 38 overs to be bowled in the day. The players are out warming up.

71 overs to blowwow and di score is 163/0 Allyuh are mediocre on steroids.
Dat is all
In reply to Chrissy
Chrissy do you remember when Boycott made a double century then got dropped from the team for slow batting ?
In reply to Chrissy
165/0 after 72 overs to be precise . Both of our openers need to ton up for this effort.
This is some pathetic batting. Last session on the 2nd day, with ten wickets in hand, and you batting at a rate of less than 2.5 RPO.
In reply to Chrissy
They really took the shine off the new ball ,the problem is it's nearly time for a second new ball.
In reply to cricketmad
This should be in the jokes thread
In reply to JOJO
Think once they ton up, they will be more aggressive
On the other hand, knowing our team- once those players gets out, the rest will probably dominoes
so they have to be careful.
We have no sponsor .
Spinners are looking a bit dangerous now!
In reply to Cricket_101
So thats the goal?
168/0 after 75 overs.
Brathwaite 85
Chanderpaul 80
In reply to Cricket_101
They have to be very careful, because in the Zimbabwe line up is Gary Ballance, who's previously played 23 Tests for England at an average of 37, which is higher than most of our batsmen.
I would suggest batting until tea on tomorrow's third day, and then putting Zimbabwe in.
West Indies cricket has done the full circle having gone from the most exciting team to watch to the most boring.
In reply to Windiesfan78
I thought theyd be lining up to sponsor the rebirth of Test Cricket

I'm elated for Tage on scoring his maiden test century. Well played young man! Well deserved and I am happy to see that he has grasped the opportunity with both hands. Here's hoping this is the first of many. Fans have been crying out for a solid opener to partner with Paint and Tage has answered the call thus far. I'm sure Shiv is extremely pleased with the progress of his son.
I am so happy for Tage. Congratulations young Dhiv! May there be many more.

With 3 days left barring any rain, the W.I should be looking to add another 200 runs at the very least and declare at tea. Apparently, I thought Raza was injured but he is presently playing in Dubai for Dubai Capitals.
In reply to Narper
3rd & 4th days....clear weather.....but last day a washout.... estimated maximum 210 overs in 3 days ....a draw more probability....if not Zimbabwe collapse...
In reply to Wasp
In the quest for quick runs tomorrow let's see what happens....
Solid but slow partnership has laid concrete foundations.
This is their style but the pitch as we have heard is not conducive to strokeplay, added to that rain etc,so 221 in 89 odd overs is not bad for a days work.Pretty sure they will look to score a bit quicker tmrw for 2 sessions and start on the opposition by tea thereabouts.
On another note, I see Reifer is padded up to come no 3- I mean is management seeing something different than all the west Indian fans? Incredulous.
If they can go along at at least 3 rpo for 60 overs then they could have a session+ tomorrow while defending 400 from the 1st innings.

Alzarri Joseph to Tanunurwa Makoni, out Caught by Mayers!! Makoni's hard work has been undone and he only has himself to blame! Joseph's introduction yields instant rewards for the West Indies. He pitches it up full and wide outside off, Makoni goes for a flashing drive away from his body and all he can manage is a thick outside edge that's safely pouched by Mayers at first slip.

Motie to Chibhabha, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! This is such a soft dismissal! Another bowling change works for WI. Quicker delivery from Motie, skids off the deck and Chibhabha misreads the length. Hangs back to a delivery which he should have been forward to. Looks to force this through the off-side and gets the faintest of edges through to the keeper. Sharp take from Joshua Da Silva as well. So, after a solid opening stand, Zimbabwe have lost quick
wickets. Chibhabha c Joshua Da Silva b Motie 9(22) [4s-2]

What you saying, we can bat him at 3?

Gary Ballance in to join Kaia....
Kaia lbw Joseph for 67.

That's because Gary Ballance bats for Zimbabwe.

We will bat again by how things look. The bowlers will need a rest even if we bowl out Zimbabwe with a lead of over 200. We need to get 4 quick wickets to try to get a result.
In reply to Windiesfan78
Are you saying we won't enforce a follow on?..... Even using 8 bowlers!
That 43 runs so
7th wicket partnership
Hurting Wi
Saying that...then Motie ends the partnership
7 down
In reply to Windiesfan78
I think they may not take the new ball straight away and see if the spinners can take the remaining wickets, so the seamers will be fresh if the follow-on is enforced. I notice Holder and Mayers haven't bowled much, so they should be fine for the 2nd innings.
If the follow-on is saved or the seamers are needed to clean up the tail, then I suspect we will bat for another 30-40 overs to get the lead up to 350-400 then have another crack at Zim tonight. Tomorrow is likely to be a curtailed day, so if we can get 2-3 2nd innings wickets tonight that will help.
In reply to Osmond
Yup, that's what I'm saying. 192/7 and there is a chance of rain tomorrow. I think Zimbabwe will get the lead under 200 forcing us to bat again. We seem to have a problem polishing off the tail.
In reply to Seechy
This I can see.
Holder drops a sitter ...Mavuta off Motie
Looks like more rain is coming
Bat again ..30 to 40 overs
At what rate ...hope not the same 2 per over ..lol
But on a serious note am worried about WI inability to out Zim...heard pitch is not that encouraging
Need to take the new ball and enforce follow on tonight.

i really don't know why gabriel was not chosen with his extra pace your playing into these guys strenghts they are use to this type of bowling. medium pacers like roach ,mayers, holder, and non threatening spinners like motie and chase are like food and drink
In reply to velo
you on Gabriel payroll?

If its not the batting is the bowling lack of intensity steups
Maiden half century for Mavuta.

In reply to WICFan
yea mid afternoon so perhaps just take it to lunch and see what happens
In reply to Narper
I slept like a baby last night, did not see a ball in Zim's inning.
Just notice Balance profile, with four test centuries.
In reply to doosra
Very disappointing today. I don't think we'll get all the overs in tomorrow because of predicted rain.
I think they might just bat out the day so guys can get some time in the middle, otherwise they'd need to go bolder to force a result. Stokes and co did this against us in the 2nd test in 2020 - one that we should have drawn.
Score 130 runs in 20 overs, setting Zim 220 in a theoretical 68 overs. Have a crack before lunch, then push hard in the remaining two sessions. Say we lose 60-90 mins due to rain, that would leave roughly 50 overs to try and bowl out Zim again. Only problem with this plan would be if the rain didn't come, then Zim would have enough overs to comfortably chase down the target, but I think it's worth dangling the carrot.
In reply to Seechy
yea it was a disappointing day especially in the middle session
In reply to openning
yea Balance had a stint with England and tons of FC county cricket
In reply to Overthrow
Ur 100% correct...
In reply to openning
Yep he played county cricket and for England Lions and he played test cricket...then some kind of mental breakdown...now he is back for Zim
No one here wants to acknowledge but this is our level...we are not much better than zimbabwe...WE ARE MINNOW too...for more than a DECADE
In reply to Narper
they played the recent t20 wc, we didn't qualify
In reply to Seechy
I'll be honest with you. I would rather a washout tomorrow based on what happened today. We had Zimbabwe 192/7 and we ALLOWED them to declare on 379/9. The fact that we couldn't even bowl them out rubbed more salt into the wound. No disrespect to Zimbabwe but this is not good enough. Many of their players are inexperienced. To make matters worse there is no Raza or Taylor in their tean which makes them weaker.
In reply to Seechy
Thanks much!

Roston Chase to Chibhabha, out Caught by Blackwood!! The bowling change does the trick! Blackwood takes a superb catch to send Chibhabha packing. Not the best of balls to be honest. It's on a length outside off, holding its line. Chibhabha's feet go nowhere as he feels for it and gets an outside edge that flies towards Blackwood at first slip. He gets low to his right and takes a sharp reflex catch. Those are never easy but he made it look easy.
Chibhabha c Blackwood b Roston Chase 31(60) [4s-3]
23.2
Motie to Ervine, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! That's a sharp take from Joshua Da Silva and Zimbabwe will be feeling the nerves now! Tossed up on a length on off, spinning in sharply. Ervine with minimal foot movement tries to glance it fine but only manages to get a faint nick behind. The keeper moves to his right and takes a very good catch. Would have been unsighted as the ball spun sharply but he was alert to the situation and took a fine, fine catch. West Indies are sensing something now.

Roston Chase to Gary Ballance, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! Right on cue - Roston Chase is the man who gets the better of Ballance. A glimmer of hope for the Windies to force a win.
