Happy Birthday Harry Belafonte
In reply to Chrissy Congratulations indeed - i was fortunate enough to see him live in concert at the Westbury Music Fair theatre, NY some years ago. Some entertainer he was, and enormously handsome too. I remember overhearing some white women saying -"he could put his shoes under my bed anytime" long live Harry. Day O!

I remember in 1962 hearing my primary school teacher say to another teacher that she was upset that Harry was not invited to the independence celebrations. Is there a story behind this?

Will see what I can find out
1st album to sell 1M, legend in every respect. Got work for Miriam when she had to flee SA; along with Sidney saved The Civil Rights movement with actual suitcase of cash. At least once it was delivered in person@ great risk. I heard an interview with that Girl who wrote "The Happy Hooker" said she ran into Harry in an elevator and "hooked" her fangs into him because there was no way she was gonna make such a wonderful specimen escape. Of course the favor was hers snd she would've been willing to pay

Great man who never saw the need to publish his good deeds. The kind of man you would admire even more as your father in law.
