All West Indies top order and middle order batsmen cannot bat at this level consistently, to place West Indies in a position to move higher in the current ICC test teams ranking. We are devoid of concentration and the ability to read the match conditions with lack of flexibility to adopt to match conditions. For example, all that was required in this first innings was to build some partnerships which started disastrously with Tage been run out, then all other batsmen just show up to face a few balls, hit a few fours, then head back into the pavilion. We need batsmen who will consistently protect their wickets, we need at least one batsman who protects at least one end of the wicket, I was hoping that Tage would fulfil that role but I am still hopeful, looks like we might have to send back for the Hope, hopefully he has matured and could help in protecting one end, so as to build team partnerships.

Team West Indies cannot bat consistently
In reply to Slipfeelerthey dont know how to pace a innings they either block or four nothing in between cant rotate the strike for singles or twos
In reply to velo
You are correct, we need to rotate the strike to ease the pressure and to build partnerships.
Schoolboy mistakes. Sad they have so many deficiencies at such late stage in there careers
25 more runs and it's a new ballgame.
3 all rounders in the 6 and the best batsman of 4 all rounders bats at 8.

Best allrounder Bats at #10
That's not what I am seeing. I seeing men losing concentration aftet 53 or so balls.
Double
Tripple

They are losing concentration after far less number of balls than you are indicating but what could be done to improve their concentration? Maybe monetary motivation for individual performances? Not sure but something has to be done.

nothing new is happening..
Much said by the WI 2nd innings as both top order and middle order batsmen continue to struggle against higher ranked bowlers. We can no longer compete against higher ranked teams, lets face the facts and try to build a team of youngsters by exposing them to that level of match conditions from early during their training, thats the only way we will be able to catch up with the rest of cricketing nations. Embarrassingly but practically, lets emulate whatever Ireland and Bangladesh are doing, for obviously we are going in the wrong direction.

In most professional teams, after the embarrassing T20 early departure and two embarrassing test series loses, heads are usually rolling with someone or a group of persons fired but not so at CWI, its business as usual without any accountability.

More 4 day cricket.
In reply to Slipfeeler That has been my observation for decades. No consistency in WI batting. No steadfast/anchored batting partnership; it's just sporadic. WI are no longer a badjohn in cricket prowess.

So, the million dollar question that should be on everyones mind is, what can be done to reverse this downward trend of our beloved cricket team?
In reply to Slipfeeler Simple - compete, practice, play the longer version of the game. Point would always lament...cricket is a serious business/game/sport.
Many average 20 sinting and 30 singting in regional
They can't even bat for long at FC cricket
In reply to BeatDball
So, do we embark on a longer domestic season? Do we invite more competitive overseas teams to our domestic tournament? Do we plan more tours for our U-19, A-team and B-team? Do we employ the training and coaching services even only for a few weeks of bowlers and batsmen of Australian skill level?
All these are important questions and directions for CWI to respond!!
In reply to Slipfeeler
you mean cannot bat against medium to elite opposition. Check when last the WI scored over 300 versus SA, India, Australia, NZ or Pakistan. they're consistently atrocious
The 'one' man they love to hate can indeed rotate the strike and both on the onside as well as offside
problem is he doesn't stay in long enough often enough .
In reply to Jumpstart
Thats a very good point but I have been searching for possible solutions, as to how can we mitigate those problems and create a more competitive team against higher ranked teams?
In reply to Slipfeeler
Don't you want inconsistent players selected?

prepare decent pitches.....the crap batsmen would fall away at the fc level, instead of inflating their numbers against medium pacers on low slow wickets......Even though i didn't see any of the glory days, i have read all of wisden almanack's reports on matches during the 80s.....and all our wickets, with the exception of Antigua and guyana were very fast and/or very bouncy and offered something to the pacers. In fact wisden used to complain about the pitches being too much in favor of pace bowling. You prepare good wickets and you will eventually get good batsmen and good bowlers
