Depends on who you speak to. Some people will tell you that the real/proper football is rugby and gridiron football. Not the circus act put on by the likes of Ronaldo and Neymar when opposing players are near them on the pitch.

In reply to Priapus It might not be “real football” as a poster say, but it’s a fabulous real human story, well written, substantive and useful. Kudos to the young man, I was not familiar with him (Calvin Ridley) before, but I sure will be rooting for him now. the article is worth the time it takes to read it. Thanks for posting.

Yeah when I first read the story I felt like this is a real case of overcoming adversity in your youth and living out your dreams. The 9iners is my team but I will certainly be rooting for the young man. Hopefully he learnt from his mistake. I can't understand why the Falcons traded him knowing that Julio's best days were behind him.

Leave my future All-Pro Jags WR alone, thank you very much cool

Seriously though it was a great read and some deep insight into the man. Objectively I hope he's able to do his family proud. Subjectively I hope he helps get my Jags to the Super Bowl.

Julio left the Falcons a year before; Julio was on the downside of his career and Calvin into the ascendancy. In a rebuild season and Ridley on suspension it made sense for the Falcons to try and reload.

Looks like the Dirty Birds will be bad for a long time. That says a lot given the weak NFC South division.

Thanks Priapus.

That's keeping it real for real.

Wish this young man all the best.

Derek Carr may have made a master stroke. Left the AFC West and Mahomes-Herbert-Wilson to join a NFC South with likely a trio of totally inexperienced or unheralded fellow QBs
