CWI to create two separate Head Coach positions for Men’s Red Ball and White Ball formats

Strategic split of role to bring specific focus on management of players and development of format specific schedules

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announced that the role of Head Coach for the West Indies Senior Men’s Teams will be split into two separate positions.

Recruitment for both Head Coach roles will start immediately for a Red Ball Head Coach for Test and ‘A’ Team cricket, as well as a White Ball Head Coach for One-Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) cricket.

Jimmy Adams, CWI’s Director of Cricket said: "After recently completing an independent review of our 2022 ICC World Cup performance, which included a closer look at the roles of the current Head...

Didn't think they'd go ahead with it but here we are. Wonder if that leads to separate staff (eg one head coach may prefer a different bowling coach than the other guy) and how much of their budget CWI will have to allocate

Yep
England does and India, though not officially, you see Dravid doing such

Good question there bdatry...
I think cost will be a major factor I don't see them having literally different batting and bowling coaches though your point of a certain head coach might require a different batting coach for their format....
But I think it will come down to cost though.

camos 2023-03-15 14:09:29

what do these coaches do?

We are copying someone's solution to a different problem.

CWI has marginalized Test and with only 5-6 test a year or 2-3 short tours want to split roles....
It's like buying a coal electricity plant at this stage.

My question is why did this profess not start when Simmons resigned many months back.

They were just hoping that coley would get lucky with a win in South Africa and that would have justified hiring him as full time coach at a fraction of what anyone else makes sense would have cost

Nothing else justifies waiting all these months

CWI running out of ideas. Instead of getting rid of the three separate team nonsense for all three formats they double down and say lets add a coach to the mix. smh
CWI can barely find enough players to make one decent team much less having different teams across all three formats.

CWI would be better served by a secondary coach to elevate the skills of the players on the fringe! Example, identifying and working on their weaknesses!

velo 2023-03-16 12:11:14

makes me think they going for local coaches they can't possible pay the salary of two foreign coaches and support staff when they always broke they say

camos 2023-03-16 12:31:27

After more than US$2 million cost, is there one thing Skerritt has left the CWI that they can build on?
