I read his book several times. Still on my bookshelf. Great man.
Pity his greatness was largely appreciated after his murder.
Walter wrote an article for the Queens College Lictor when he was 17 years old which is PHENOMENAL.
He was part of the 1960 Graduating Class of Queens College that was remarkable in that it contained 4 people who all graduated with first class honors in their first degrees.

Dr. Rodney was Guyana's greatest intellectual.
Murdered by a small minded treacherous tyrant.

I was at the Sophia pavilion when Burnham spoke about a month after Rodneys assassination. Members of the diplomatic corps were present. Burnham said let him explain why he did what he was doing and we will explain why we did what we did. He did not mention Rodney by name but everyone knew he was referring to the assassination. I was shocked. Here was a president literally admitting to murder.
A terrible loss. 'The Grounding With My Brothers' is as important a contribution to 'Self Emancipation' for millions that can compare
to many of Garvey's works.
Some are born into greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them. The fear of true leadership traumatized the cowardly.
Burnham the CIA supported dictator executed Walter Rodney. Apart from that, he was a great man.

It was Waynes Shearer who declared Walter persona non grata.

I just stumbled across this thread and I'm surprised that Rodney would have only been 81. I was a child back then but I still remember when he spoke at several WPA rallies on Merriman's Mall (just across from the open-air section of Bourda Market).
Then a few years after he was killed, his son Shaka and I lived on same residence hall floor at the school we attended in Trinidad.
