World 11 - Telegraph readers selections
In reply to Kay
rubbish list....no lara because you already have a left hander....tendulkar does not win tests. Lara has a proven track record of doing that....and against the best opposition. No Wasim Akram and james anderson does not even feature in an alternate xi. Jack hobbs played between 1908-1930....clear;y does not belong on the list
and why not Sangakarra before Gilchrist as keeper? That man could play as a batsman only if needed. The justification for omitting Lara is bizarre!!
Telegraph readers definitely having an England bias - with respect to Anderson, him in an all-time World Team is a travesty.

Well if this website do a poll we can expect the same bias. It is what it is ... just a public opinion poll
In reply to Kay
true....but some decisions are just absurd....anderson can't even tie Allan Donald's shoes.......or walsh's, or waqar, or mcgrath or big bird, or hitman andy roberts, or whispering death, or denis lillee, the father of the modern fast bowler

Lara has won 25% of the matches he's played - 32 wins / 131, at an average of 61, with 8 100s and 16 50s
Tendular 36% of the matches he's played - 72 wins / 200, at an average of 62, with 20 100s and 24 50s
Lara has played a few memorable match winning innings but overall he is not the winner we talk him up to be - at least that is what the data is saying
that has nothing to do with his batsmanship tho

Jumpy/Trinis are an emotional lot when they are talking about Lara. Dont expect logic and statistics to apply.
In reply to doosra
Hello Doosie how ya doing?
In reply to doosra
That he (Lara) himself won or the team won?
Therein lies the difference
In reply to sudden
Yep
Great players should play 11 vs 1
Which idiot picking Graeme Smith in an X1 and not Lara?
Madness
George Headley ahead of Smith any day of the week and twice on Sunday

What was the contribution of the other batters and the bowlers in those wins?
Do you know that Tendulkar only won 5 Man of the Match Awards in the 72 matches won by India during his career(6.9%)?
By contrast, Sehwag was Man of the Match in 4 of the 42 matches won by India during his career(9.5%)
Lara on the other hand won 4 Man of the Match Awards in the 32 matches won by West Indies during his career(12.5%).
In other words Lara was twice the match winner that Tendulkar ever was
Chrissy - please send my check in the mail. Tenks.
In reply to Halliwell
Then how about a stat where he or Tendu made runs but the team lost
In reply to sudden
Tendulkar averaged 37 in matches lost. Lara averaged 42

A great TL once advised me it is as much about the evidence as it is about the right questions
In reply to doosra
That is not 'statistics" not unless you do calculations on othee contributions from teammates, opposition, pitch condition, etc.
Sorry guys didn't read through 1st. Your questions and contributions make the above void
In reply to FanAttick
it was not that all 'devastating' after all
