30 years old who will be 31 years old next month has been selected in both 50 over squads to tour UAE as well as take part in the World Cup qualifiers. He has played 5 One Day Internationals for the West Indies and taken 4 wickets for 248 runs at an average of 62 and an economy rate of 7.40..In his last ODI match representing the West Indies he bowled 3.3 overs and conceded 49 runs which included 6 fours and 3 sixes,a match WI lost with more than 20 overs to spare. In his previous match for the WI he had concede 47 runs off 5 overs.
Interestingly prior to this Cariah had conceded 77 runs in 9 overs as WI lost a 50 over match after making 301 runs.
The question that one should therefore ask is why is Cariah in the team? What is his overall record in List A matches and what has he done in recent List A matches to justify his selection?
The answer to the first question is above my pay grade.
The answer to the second question is in 31 List A matches he has taken 38 wickets at 25.44 apiece and an economy rate of 5.34 which is not bad. However in the Super 50 Final for Trinidad vs Jamaica he was the most expensive bowler for his team in their loss to Jamaica, bowling 10 overs for 65 runs.In the semi-final despite conceding 53 runs in 6 overs his team prevailed.
Not only is Cariah selected for the white ball series in UAE and the World Cup qualifiers, he is currently in the red ball team tour of Bangladesh. How is that selection justified?
In 2023 he played 2 first class matches and took 2 wickets for 122 runs.Despite those returns he was selected to play for WI A and is the preferred spin bowler to a young spin bowler who had 2 five wicket hauls recently.
Is this INCOMPETENCE or worse yet MALFEASANCE???????
