Player of the Match Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran scored centuries and Jason Holder took three wickets as the West Indies defeated Nepal by 101 runs in Harare on Thursday.

Having set the Nepalese a winning target of 340, West Indies bowlers, not helped by a several dropped catches, combined to restrict their opponents for 238 and achieve their second win from as many games in the ICC World Cup qualifiers.

Aarif Sheikh was the top scorer with 63 for the Nepalese team, who also got contributions of 42 from Gulsan Jha and 30 from Captain Rohit Paudel.

Jason Holder was the best of the bowlers with 3-43 from his 10 overs with Akeal Hosein 2-49 and Keemo Paul 2-63.

Nepal were fortunate not to have been dismissed for much less as the West Indies spilled several catches in the field.  Alzarri Joseph suffered the most with three catches dropped off his bowling as he finished with figures of 2-45.

The NERVES from our openers...OUCH..

it is palpable.

I am here watching it now...was sleeping hard at 3 am this morning.

We wanted to bowl too...and that then through a spanner at us as we were asked to bat and we were unfamiliar with the batting conditions.


the running tween wickets - and early loss of wickets I do accept...should have been mitigated against.


after all...50 overs you laying the foundation so take your time and show the batsmen to come what to expect

I don’t understand West Indies selectors and what they expect to accomplish. First, an ODI team consists of four wicketkeepers in Hope, Pooran, Charles and King, which means three of them will be out fielding, positions that they aren’t comfortable with. Then all four are openers and not really good against spinners and batting in the middle order. But to make things worse although they have four openers yet Myers, a middle order batsman that is known for his power against spin is the one opening. I just don’t understand their logic. To me Charles can be dangerous in the shorter T20 version but not that good batting # 3 in ODI. Why did they not carry Arthanaze who bats both pace and spin well an is able to open or bat in the middle?

These guys lack the mental capacity to be successful in modern cricket. Every other team is able to balance physical skills with mental awareness and toughness. Our West Indians will have nothing to do with the mental aspect of the game. They are the most mentally deficient team playing international cricket. With little to no hope of improving in the near future, they will continue to sink to the foot of the cricket-playing table, to the frustration of West indies cricket fans.
