HEADLINE: Philo Wallace fails to see CWIs vision with latest ODI squad

Former West Indies opening batter Philo Wallace has questioned Cricket West Indies' (CWI) selection policy following the revelation of the 15-member squad currently facing off against India in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series.
Speaking on the Mason & Guest show on Tuesday, Wallace said:
"The selectors will say this is the best available fifteen (players) for this ODI series. I just want to know, with the selection of this squad, where is this squad going to take us? What is the selectors' vision [for] this squad? My take is that we're still allowing players to dictate when they're available or when they're not available."
Wallace first took aim at Guyanese batter Shimron Hetmyer who, before his appearance in the first ODI against India on Thursday, had not represented the West Indies in a year.
"Shimron Hetmyer [and] how he's left our cricket... and he's just decided--well he's been selected so he's waltzed back in. There's no clear explanation [of] how he has gained selection."

This Desmond Haynes led selection panel is the worst selection panel we have ever had .... He came in with an agenda to prove that he knows more about cricket than anyone else and is seriously lost and detached from the modern game.
His selection are wild and wreckless at best which makes the present crisis worst.

The thing that's irritating is that a player makes a conventional run of the mill shot and he is lauded to no end by the talking heads. And the fans are just as guilty.

newsflash!! I am old enough to have seen the glory days and now today's situation. I have long decided that this is death spiral so I lose no sleep over who is selected or not. The outcome is the same if you select 11 Bajans,or trinis or yardies or muddies or dotties. So I don't involve myself in long drawn out pseudo intellectual arguments. I trust you intellectuals with extensive qualifications can revive west indies cricket. It will not happen in my lifetime so I am not holding my breath.

I agree 100%. Our revival is nonexistent. How long have we been turning the corner? We are nations dependent on resources elsewhere, self hate, lack of self-belief, etc. We seek approval from our colonial bastards, etc. We cannot come together as in the past united .
Times has changed yet we live in the past.

About 15 - 20 years ago people used to tease me that as long as Kensington was open whether international or regional cricket I was there. ODI' are on at the moment and I chose to not waste my time. I follow occasionally online.

I agree with Philo. I dont see how one could take Hope from the opening spot where he got all his runs and bat him on the middle and have Mayers open in an ODI. I really dont understand why Thomas, Shepherd and Powell are on the team. I dont mind Hetty bu why was he not in the World Cup qualifiers and now theres nothing for us and all of a sudden he is picked and Pooran and Holder are now unavailable.

Do you listened to the show weekly or you responding to an article?
Philo does not have to hide, he devoted his time to be part of a CWI task force, so he has knowledge of what he is saying.
Why you think Dessie and a number of Barbados players don't go on the show?
The previous week, Philo was attacked by a calling Bajan, did you know that?
he played his part but he was no clyde walcott of those 5 championships -
Reifer return to Barbados and batted up the order, I posted his regional average playing for Barbados, and just like you attacked Philo, for a post about him, shows me that you only look at him when he batted out of place for Guyana,
I wanted to know why after he returned to bim, he was allow to bat, in a batting position, I found out he batted in that position as an youngster and played for CCC as a batsman.
In the last 2 years his regional batting average is one of the highest among regional batsman, higher than any present Guyana batsman.
BTW, the only present batsman from Guyana that have an average of 40 is Motie.
The same happened to Mayers playing for the Windwards, he was never used in a batting position, now he is opening in white ball cricket.

Bannuh why do you keep making shyte up? Did Reifer bat at three for Barbados when Hope, Chase & Brooks were available?
Reifer averaged just over 49 in the 2021/2022 season... He did not play in the 2022/2023 season. You keep saying that Motie is the only Guyanese who averaged over 40... You didn't look at the names above Reifer?
Why are you ignoring his recent 'A' team performance at #3? How did he do in those games? He looked like a top order batsman to you?
Here are the stats for the past two seasons...

The stats posted is for the present Barbados and Guyana regional stats, playing for their regional franchise, I linked it twice.
Reifer played only seven games for Barbados.
The list is not about the last couple of years, it is historical data.
The historical data of Reifer playing for Barbados is 7 fc games at an average of 47, Hope has an average of 49 , Kraigg 46, Motie 41.
Have a look

You showed the CAREER FC stats for Barbados and Guyanas players EXCEPT that of Reifer. For Reifer, you displayed a small sample size of 7 FC matches. What is Reifers historical career FC average? He played NINETY SIX FC games. I opine to have a fair argument with AnthonyP, you would have to compare Reifers sampled 7 FC games with others during the same period. I may be wrong, but its just my two cents

The stats you're posting aren't comparable. A better comparison will be players performances over the same period, which I posted above.
You are using the overall career figures for most of the Guyana players but deliberately choose a sample of 5 matches for Reifer? Why? That make sense to you? What happen to the remaining 90+ matches? Those don't count?
Gonna ask one more time, did Reifer bat at #3 when Brooks, Hope and Chase were in the Barbados XI?
