HEADLINE: Final decision on who hosts 2024 ICC World Cup final yet to be reached

CaribbeanCricket.com Sep 28, 2023, 12:26:36 PM

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has moved to provide clarity on the ongoing process of venue selection for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and USA in June 2024.

CWI acknowledges the enthusiasm and interest expressed by various governments, cricket boards, and stakeholders in hosting the highly anticipated tournament. However, there has been some confusion over how the process works, especially in light of recent developments wherein Barbados Cricket Association President Conde Riley claimed that Barbados has been selected to host the finals of the tournament next June.

Those claims have been debunked by CWI President Dr Kishore Shallow.

So, what is the actual truth?

CWI Chief Executive Officer Johnny Grave explained, stating, "Following a robust selection process of our seven host venues, CWI-appointed Venues Selection Committee, chaired by President Dr. Kishore Shallow, has made recommendations to the ICC on allocations of matches for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and USA in June 2024."

Even if it’s true that Barbados was awarded the final, just for that inexcusable breach of protocol by Riley, that decision should be revoked and awarded elsewhere.

Riley made no bones of his opposition to, & contempt for Shallow being elected CWI President and has been doing his best to undermine Shallow’s authority at almost every turn since.

This is just the latest, and arguably the most glaring example of insubordination and lack of respect for the CWI’ President’s office.

Let Riley then explain to his constituents how HE alone lost the opportunity to host the final

Barbados Cricket Association President Conde Riley claimed that Barbados has been selected to host the finals of the tournament next June.

"Yes, that's correct... We have documentation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and CWI suggesting that Barbados will be the venue for the final," Riley, a longstanding president of the BCA, told Cricbuzz on Wednesday, a day after making a similar claim on the Mason & Guest Radio program in the Caribbean. "Based on the documents from Cricket West Indies and the ICC, Barbados will host the final, a semi-final, and several games, including matches involving India and England," he told the radio station.

Doesn’t matter if he has documents or not. He is not the authority to announce who is hosting the finals.

If it came to be that an announcement was made on where the final was being hosted and Riley has documents in his possession that show evidence to the contrary, THEN he makes his case.

Not before. If he has suspicions that something is afoot, he should raise them PRIVATELY. What he has done here is an attempt to publicly force the premature announcement of finals host to be made in Barbados favour.

Oh well……that’s no big thing in a region that’s more concerned with runners up medals being taken off after being presented.

Now THAT……………..

The Podcast is not up, but it would be interesting to listen to it.
I was strongly against Conde and the lack of protocol, I live in Calgary too long, ignoring the gamesmanship people play on each other in the region.
Shallow was on speaking about the stadiums and the work needed, he was ask by Andrew Mason on Barbados hosting the final, my belief Conde having documentation of the final, and hearing Shallow saying that the venue will be known at a ICC meeting in November, and that BCL stadium is the newest and need the less work, that may had grab Conde attention.
Conde came on the program, and state he have documentation
Is there a move by Shallow not to have Barbados as the host, and Conde is calling him out?

Hoss. Barbados has been the least receptive to t20 cricket, has the least vybz of any of the established Caribbean territories. As I said on an earlier thread, Kensington’s enthusiasm for this year’s CPL was lackluster. As bad as St Kitts.Allyuh entitlement surreal bordering on the absurd and stupefying. Firstly, allyuh hadda power wash that roof. Final should be in Guyana or Trinidad. The 2007 World Cup final was a complete disaster.

Stop all the insularity. This is an international showpiece event for the Region. It is patently obvious to all right thinking people that Guyana is the only place that has the money, the facilities, the fan base and the commitment from the government led Ali Government to make this the success it must be.
Guyana has taught the Caribbean how to bring the excitement and the interest back. Now, many will continue to argue that T20 is not cricket. It is lickit. But it is a spectacle. It is fast in a fast food world. It is the linchpin to bring fans back to what has and had become boring cricket. In marketing and advertising we can call this finding the hook and then build on it.

Let’s enter your fantasy world and say all that is true……which it absolutely isn’t…..not by a long shot…you don’t care about the safety and security of visiting international fans?

Guyanese “fans “ have already demonstrated that they will riot and attack opposing supporters when things don’t go their way.

Suppose Hety get drap? Or wuss yet world’s best allrounder Motie? What if a team decides to rest their starters for a match? Is CWI willing to risk insulting Guyana and the subsequent incessant cow bawling from Guyanese as a result? cool
