President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, pledges support to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the redevelopment of cricket in the Caribbean through infrastructural development, cricket programmes, and commercial opportunities.

On 13 October, 2023, President Ali and CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow, met at State House in Guyana as part of the commitment to strengthen stakeholder relationships across the region. CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe; CWI Independent Director, Manniram Prashad; and Owner of Guyana Amazon Warriors, Dr. Ranjisinghi Bobby Ramroop were also in attendance.

The Head of State reiterated his commitment to establishing a partnership with CWI to improve the overall performance of West Indies cricket. One of the primary objectives will be establishing a High-Performance Centre in Guyana to service cricketers from across the region.

I have not been to Guyana in decades.....so I will ask...what is the state of the cricket grounds in Guyana...8 yrs ago I remember Alvin Kallicharan was shocked at the state of the grounds in Guyana.
Another question....is there properly organized cricket in the schools?

Players joining any HPC must have been exposed to the cricket basics which must have started at a very young age...ideally in school cricket. In the past there were many players going into an HPC and coming out without any improvement...and in some cases
some appeared to have regressed e.g. I believe Chandrika regressed after HPC. Another concern is the quality of coaches at the early or school level...the kids must have top quality coaching....it's hard to unlearn poor techniques and bad habits.

Narps, to be fair there has been some progress in developing facilities not only for cricket but athletics but I could not tell you for sure what the actual state of cricket grounds overall are...but given by what we have seen at old Bourda and at Blairmont (which used to be in pristine condition), there is still a lot of work to be done. I know there is work ongoing at Albion as well...we have a lot of local work to do.
I have not seen scorecards in the local papers for school cricket for a long time and I am not sure there are interschools / districts these days like there was previously...again we will need perhaps Anthonyp to help us out here..

My comment was more in jest than out of analysis but as I think about it we can do with an uplift locally. Maybe pressy wants to genuinely help. Guyana getting CPL is a big boost for the country...things connect

No school cricket at the moment.. Got countrywide school football though.

Was told that GCB putting coaches to work with players throughout the Country... Plan is to setup multiple academies in each County and coaches will work with the young players 4 days per week. De problem though is that they want to pay the coaches 50k or 250USD per month... Most of the coaches not interested in that offer.

Ministry of Education I think is also looking to hire coaches to work with players in the schools with the aim of restarting school cricket... Dem and all paying next to nothing so nobody's interested.

Besides the grounds I listed above (which they working on currently) de others are pastures... Years ago almost each school had a ground, most villages too... Almost all de school grounds gone and the few that remaining in the communities got issues with people within fighting for control.

A cricket academy in guyana will help our guyanese players to develop.

trinidad players benifitted from this for the past 2 decades with their criccket academy.

Prezzy leaning on Dr. Shallow really hard for at least a semi-final if not the final of T20WC 2024. Albion would be good to go by Feb 1, 2024, with the possibility of India or Pakistan having a group stage match at the refurbished facility. Lots in play for Guyana too regards permission to become a functioning hub for franchise cricket in this part of the world once CWI is onside. Keep at it Irfaan! Put the infrastructure in place.

Anyone know on the quality of the cricket ground at Chesney? A few years ago, I noticed that they barricaded it from being a cow pasture and built a few stands.
