PM lauds ‘national treasure’ Prof Kenneth Julien

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says T&T owes a debt of gratitude to Prof Emeritus Kenneth Julien, whom he described as nothing short of a national treasure.
Dr Rowley made the comment at the renaming of the University of T&T’s (UTT) Administration Building at UTT Campus, Tamana InTech Park, Wallerfield, in Julien’s honour. Yesterday’s celebration saw numerous cultural performances among the speeches. The event was attended by President Christine Kangaloo, Dr Rowley’s wife, attorney Sharon Clark-Rowley, several Cabinet ministers including Attorney General Reginald Armour, SC, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Camille Robinson-Regis, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan and many others. Julien’s family and notable members of the public also filled the seats at the event.

Giving the feature address, the PM said Julien was a genius who should be praised for his contribution to T&T’s economic development through the engineering, energy and education sectors as well as the arts.
“He has been appropriately described by many as a genius, pioneer, stalwart, visionary, trailblazer, legend, entrepreneur and “a giant of a man”. His life is defined by many first-of-its-kind achievements in this country,” Rowley said.

Last year, after an eight-year court battle, the board of state-owned Evolving Technologies and Enterprise Development Company Limited (Eteck) decided to discontinue its negligence case against its former board, then headed by Julien.

The action was initiated under then attorney general Anand Ramlogan in 2011.

The State had alleged that the board entered into a US$5 million investment with a Hong Kong-based company, Bamboo Networks Ltd, between January 18 and May 17, 2005, without carrying out a due diligence exercise into the company’s financial records beforehand.

Privy Council dismissed appeal

What an icon and a genius! Why was he not allowed to defend the multi-million U.S dollar 'gift' to the Hong Kong firm which provided nothing to UTT? One week before the trial, the gov't, thru the Board withdrew the court matter! How scandalous and how PNM convenient this episode of our history reads?

I've often wondered why all of the geniuses that created Pt Lisas in T&T fled the country and now live and died in Canada of cancer.

The government did not inform T&T inhabitants that such plants must have a 40-kilometer radius from villages

C1 to C1000, as well as other particles, are released into the atmosphere by the smoke stacks.
Citizens breathe in such particles that cancer can develop in less than a decade.
I'd love to see a research study on this in T&T because cancer rates must be high now compared to the 1960s.

Governments love when citizens die before they can collect a pension...they save money.

Googs doh worry Bible scriptures will save their dotish rasses...heaven awaits...
