Mujeeb to Maxwell, SIX, Jesus Christ!! This has been mental stuff!! The man with no legs and a maimed back is standing the tallest today at the Wankhede. Fired in on the pads by Mujeeb, Maxwell lifts it from there and gives it a huge slog sweep over deep mid-wicket. That will be 200 for G Maxi, that will be quite an inexplicable win for Australia. They qualify for the semis!!

Has to be the best ever, tek it or leave it.Sorry Viv.
Finally got time to watch a match and saw the best innings ever. Yeah he got dropped but no way should they have won that.
In reply to Narper
I don't like the Australian team but I have to give Jack his jacket. What an innings from Maxwell to win the match for Australia! 201 not out to become the third ODI batter to score a double century in an ODI World Cup. What makes it even more amazing is that he did this injured. He now joins Gayle and Guptill on the list.

I won't be so quick to discount Viv's innings
There's the quality of bats now, the number of chances he got and the playing conditions in all aspects
Also the quality of the opposition bowlers
It was hot while fielding today, I haven't done a lot of exercise in the heat, it got a hold on me today. I wanted to stay back and get some movement (on my legs). Not too much (when asked about plans at 92/7), just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive. A hint of swing and nip (off the surface), as it happens here under lights, they bowled beautifully to exploit that. It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher.

Without a doubt..This is unreal
That’s how you make opposition pay for drop catches!!!
partnership 202
Cummins 12
Typical T20 type innings.
The fact that it happened in a World Cup and has “traditional” posters drooling all over themselves with superlatives just shows the irony and hypocrisy that goes along with the denigration of so called “lickit cricket”
A remarkable knock against an ordinary team - OZ should never have won dat.
In reply to imusic
don't get carried away
Kapil 175 1983, Viv's 189, etc
ppl have scored big ODI runs before t20 came but yes there is a t20 influence
the irony for you is to think about the fact he had time to do it...you know it
In reply to doosra
Context bro.
This was a TYPICAL T20 innings.
He didn’t bat “classically” like some posters like to claim they look for.
He plundered the bowling and rode his luck.
Time is a factor yes…..because it lasted longer than a T20 innings…..but it was a T20 innings that extended due to the format No disputing that.
Aussies fight until the last man...can wi say that of any other team?
In reply to imusic
I am on board bro.
It was like Glen Maxwell at a golf driving range, today was his day.
In reply to doosra
Didn’t realize bowlers can bowl more than 4 overs in T20!

If Paint had played a role like Cummins...he woulda get cuss
In reply to Narper
Kraigg doesn't have the tools in his kit, Shai and Jason Holder are more likely to learn from Maxwell.
The guy was on one leg, yet like Tiger Woods, he was able to create so many different strokes, it was fascinating to watch.
I can only compare what I saw, and the incapability of Maxwell to a golfer, on the range.
Not even god can please a West Indies cricket fan.

In reply to openning
honestly i thought that their error was bringing on nabi so..........but then he started to get lix(i think he went for 20 in two overs) so clearly it wasn't
In reply to Jumpstart
I am only familiar with Khan, Maxwell unable to run and could hit the ball to all areas was impressive
In reply to openning
apparently he's been highly regarded for the 360 play before he even made his debut. saw it on a cricketmonthly article just now. will post the link

The article confirmed what I was saying about golf and on the range.
He and one of Australia's best golfers Adam Scott, who plays on the PGA tour, practice as left-handers, on the golf range.
I detest Australia. But no doubt about this. The greatest ODI knock ever.
Jumpy said Pullard innings was better.
In reply to imusic
T20, without a doubt, has transformed all forms of cricket and has played a vital role in keeping the game alive.
got around to watching this...it was a clobbering.
some good stuff there.
question though.
AFG made 291 off Aussie bowling. Do we need to worry abou them surpassing the windies
A lot of people dont like australia and they might go overboord at times but i admire their cricket their aggression and go down swinging mentality
In reply to velo
Indisputably the greatest one day innings ever played. You’ll hear lots of BS about the ordinary opposition and drop catches. But anyone who has played the game will tell you it is unbelievably the greatest innings ever played.
In reply to eXodus
too late....accept it and rebuild!

Glen Maxwell was simply a badjohn today! Wouldnt you Guyneez, Treeknees & Small Islanders agree? Wonder what vocabulary the Jewmaycans & Bajans would use!?
Maxwell even mastered the helicopter shot. Dhoni even can't come close.
The most exciting ODI (WC or Not) I have ever watched : India VS Australia 2013/14
Dhawan, Sharma and Kohli were on the war-path that day.
http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Matches/MatchScorecard_ODI.asp?MatchCode=3563
Yeah, context alone is enough to rate this knock as the best ever.
91/7, then you put on 202 runs partnership, the guy at the other end only contributing 12. Made close to 100 runs being injured. When he got injured after his century, I figured he'd hit maybe 30 or 40 more runs and he'll be done with. Man really got close to 100 more. Really unbelievable.
And don't say the opposition because Afghanistan have humiliated some top sides this WC and would more than likely, have buried any other team they had in that position.
Give Maxwell his due, that really was an innings to behold. Certainly the greatest WC knock, certainly the greatest double century made in ODI Cricket. All others scored on good batting strips and by openers. So for a #6 to do this, batting with the lower end under pressure. That's crazy. Pressure does bus pipe!! Not today for Maxwell.

Excellent analysis of a brilliant innings
In reply to TheTrail
As you are aware a batsman should be able to use his feet, be balanced and get into a position, Glen Maxwell was unable to do any of them, he is a golfer and was able to stand in his crease and rotate the ball.
I enjoyed what I was seeing, but golf does not have fielders, so it was also risky.
I gave credit to his captain, who batted and never competed to score.
Today was Glen Maxwell's day, not the best for me.
I watched two guys scoring centuries this week, I appreciated these guys' fight, than Maxwell's double.
It was risky.
The greatest ODI Innings to date.
Maxwell today.
Sir Viv's 189 when batsmen fell around him.
He put on a century stand with Mikey.
Maxwell gets the nod cause ah de injury.
Sir Viv is a close second.
100% greatest knock in any form of cricket. Scoring 202 chasing 291 from I believe 89/7 is the greatest knock in my book. And he was there till the end
Hughe differences in setting a total and chasing
I didnt get to see was only reading the commentary and it was like a ‘nansi story, but true. I agree with the experts, maybe the best ever ODI innings ever. Amazingly he also ensured he got the double as well as the win.
The most exciting ODI would have to be SA chasing down that 400 plus by Australia.
