Neville Garrick was a Jamaican-born Los Angeles-based graphic artist, and photographer. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. Garrick attended UCLA where he played for the football team, reaching the National Collegiate Athletic Association finals in both 1971 and 1972.

I don't remember the name of the ad agency where he worked, but before my time in that industry!

R.I.P.

I continue to lose some wonderful colleagues...Neville Garrick was a special person, a rare and excellent talent
as a graphic artist who made a huge contribution to the Jamaica Daily News in the early 70s
on his return from studies i the USA.
His association and friendship with Bob Marley was legendary as he designed Bob's Album covers one of which is rated among the top 25 by Billboard.
Being around him as a colleague was a treasure as his easy going, pleasant and professional demeanor were so endearing to all
on all levels socially ,professionally and on the field of soccer and cricket when we travelled the country to engage in contests.
I feel a strong sense of loss with his passing but cherish the fond times we all shared.
Thanks for those memories,Nevile . You will be missed and never forgotten.

Condoclences to his family and friends.

SIP Neville.Peace

Indeed he was well loved. Daily News was a boss paper.
Nev was a true genius…unassuming beyond belief.

Football as in "soccer" just to be clear as I am sure you intended. In 1971 UCLA made it to the 1/4 where they were drubbed. They made the finals '70, '72 and '73 losing all of them.

Garrick had UCLA classes with Judge Joe Brown and track Olympian John Smith.

Boy everyday someone I know, or was associated with seems to be passing.

This one bears particular resonance because not too long ago Ewart asked me to get a link for Neville for him. Now both are gone within the space of a few months.

Maan, he got the 3 score n ten but you'd wish they all live as long as Seeco. His return to Yard after leaving UCLA was very timely. Walk Good Artist no suffering there.

Most of the Staff that Launched the paper are gone and i have lost touch with others
that are still vertical in the USA,JA and Canada.. My close pals..Wint,Becca and Ewart
and now Neville have however left me with only great memories.

Pity that Paper which had so much Journalistic Talent ,never survived especially now
when I see what is being paraded as Print media.
But such is life. I battle on till Time is called lol

Whatever happened to Jean Fairweather (and Canute James)?

I remember she wrote that very riveting profile of The Wailers, circa 1974, for which Neville took the photos. One of those photos was later used as the front the cover of Rastaman Vibration.

A piece of personal trivia: The first time I was ever published in a newspaper was a Letter to the Editor of the Daily News , in the summer of 1975, protesting the banning of Peter Tosh's Legalize It single.

I was a minor celebrity when I returned to school that September big grin

Great thread, sis. Yes, I remember Neville, from both down at JBC and up at Turntable. Walk good, Nev; rest in eternal peace.
