The Windward Islands Volcanoes needed only three days to complete a nine-wicket victory over the Jamaica Scorpions in their 2024 West Indies Championship opening round fixture at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The Scorpions started Friday’s day three 76-4 off 18 overs, trailing by 106 runs with Nkrumah Bonner and Gordon Bryan at the crease on 36 and one, respectively.

Eleven overs into the day’s play, Bonner was trapped in front by Shamar Springer for 45 to leave the Scorpions 109-5 needing a further 73 runs to make the Windwards have to bat again.

New batsman Abhijai Mansingh joined Bryan at the crease and the pair looked to be safely guiding the Scorpions into the lunch break without any further damage.

However, this proved not to be the case as Mansingh was caught brilliantly at short mid-wicket by Sunil Ambris off the bowling of Shadrack Descarte for 11 to leave the hosts 131-6 off 47 overs at lunch.

When will the Jamaican Selectors wake up? The team has been losing bad for the last two years with the experienced players. If they are going to continue losing it is better to look to the future.

Carlos Brown and Romaine Morris looks like good young prospects. However, Walton has to go. Whats his purpose on the team? JA lost the game in the first inning. WH played far better cricket in all aspect.

It’s not surprising to me. Cricket is clearly not even resembling a priority for Jamaica so any investment and development in such an environment will suffer.

One has to wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye (politics/$$) when Jamaica trots out that batting line-up. Walton - Brown-McKenzie-Blackwood-Bonner. The openers do not belong. So that's two spaces wasted. The lower order of Bryan-Morris-Green-Salmon is more reliable than the core of the batting. How can this be? Note that this has been a perennial problem for Jamaica. Wedderburn and Johnson should walk right into this team. As constituted, this team is a disgrace to watch.

Ojay Shields. He did not play in this game. He probably would have made a hugh difference with his pace. Not sure JA with such a pathetic batting display would have resulted in a different outcome.

It’s just too embarrassing to see the way Jamaica cricket has fallen over the years even with three test players in the middle order and one fast bowler with test experience to spearhead their bowling. Yes we will criticize selectors but fact of the matter is they couldn’t even host a T20 WC and they couldn’t even keep their CPL franchise as proof of how bad their cricket has fallen
