Top 10 wi spinners of all time
In reply to velo
There are only 4 top spinners in WI cricket:
1. Lance Gibbs
2. Al Valentine
3. Sonny Ramadhin
4. The Great One
In reply to tc1
#4 was not a top spinner.
As a spinner, he was handy at best. Despite that, he did once take a 6 for in test cricket.
Jack Noriega took 9 test wickets in an innings. He wouldn’t be classified as a top WI spinner.
Sobers’ notoriety was because he could bowl different styles:
Seam and swing - where he took the vast majority of his wickets and bowled most often
Left arm orthodox
Wrist spin
Dinanath Ramnarine was a much better spinner than Sobers
Even Sulieman Benn could lay claim to being better spinners than Sobers.

No doubt. You're old enough to know
I haven't looked at the youtube because I do not think that WI has produced 10 international class spinners to date. Apart from Gibbs, Valentine and Ramadhin, I cannot think of any other international class spinner.

So why can't our batters play spin, so to speak?

PalsofMine -
I think that comment from PalsofMine suggests a reason WI players don’t play spin particularly well
Benn and ramnarine were two of the better spinners of the modern era for the wi icant say why ramnarine career was so abrupted .but benn was tempermental and hard to manage at times

By the numbers, Bishoo was one of the best we have had.
Likely right after Gibbs, Ramadhin, and Valentine in the pecking order.

do you know how many wks Garry took bowling spin to make your statement that he was not in Benn or Bishoo class.
where are the stats to back your statement?
In reply to tc1
Enlighten the board with how many of his 235 test wickets Sobers took bowling spin
We eagerly await
You guys forgot about Inshan Ali.
Even Jumadeen. The spin twins. Could hear Rafique the commentator saying "Beaten All Ends Up".
What was his last name?
QPO was a spinners' paradise in those days.
Rafique 'Knowles '?????
Motie, Bishop and Permaul, Mohamed, Narine, Nagamootoo, Butts, Harper.
In reply to Curtis
Methinks you speak of Raffie Knowles, the commentator. Yes, Ishan and Raphick were quite the spin twins in the early 1970s and Raffie was one of the best regional commentators. Appa Yappa!!

Only Bishoo mastered the art of getting batsmen out with long hops! The man was a genius!
In reply to googley
Still better than Roger Harper doh.
In reply to imusic
I pose the question first to provide stats on Garry's career as a spinner to back your opinion, so don't pull that Trini stuff on me.
In reply to tc1
Following tit comic imusic logic pelters Ramdhin and Sunil Narine also jumpstart were superior spinners to Gary.
the greatest spinner on earth or mars was a mystery tit name Harold Joseph
Bishoo would have been one of the better leg spinners we had, but what are Suliman and Rakheem doing in that list? That's a joke. Motie, Shillingford, and Permaul should be in that list ahead of those two.
In reply to Seechy your mixing up firstclass cricket with wi cricket
Shillingford when he stopped pelting he was never the same bowler.and permaul was one of the most ineffective wi spinners was he even better than omari banks ?benn took 87 wickets with 6 5fers compared to permaul 1
