The 1st question I have when I see things like this is how are they disposing of their sewerage? I hope they weren’t just dumping untreated waste into the pristine waters along Jamaica’s coastline…knowing how corrupt government is in the Yard I bet they weren’t subjected to any oversight by the authorities

That is my second question. What you think?

We have way too many mad and delusional reckless dreamers out to ‘eat a food’ by any means necessary. This US$1m one did not last a freaking month.

One of the biggest problems Jamaica has is ' waste disposal'.
Kingston and St. Andrew presented the biggest problem when I was a boy....
Used to fish in Kingston Harbour all the way back to the Marcus Garvey drive when if
I remember it was called Foreshore Road and way before The grand Terminals were thought of.....
caught little sprats as the water was close to the Roadway.
Where the Rio Cobre enters the harbour was also a favorite spot for guys in small canoes to
fish.
But poluting of the Harbour saw to the demise of a pastime as fish went deep sea. lol

Sol your point about sewage is most timely my Friend. And Chrissy's point of the 'eat a food'
mentality is central to the problem...Who is in charge ? who is not thinking. ?

I went to the opening.

They informed us that there were 2 large ballasts collecting the waste.

100% eco friendly

Fully solar

Where are these ballasts now?
I’ve looked at the pdf on them - nothing about surviving hurricanes.

A cursory perusal of the ballast treatment process does nothing to assuage my concerns…..if anything it makes me even more worried….

Global shipping channels have connected humanity at an unprecedented scale, but it is also put the various ecosystems around the world at risk. This is due to microorganisms that travel in the ship’s ballast water and can contaminate or invade the marine ecology of a new region, causing untold damage to the area.

It is beyond irony that what makes di money roll in not only destroys the environment but also warms up the oceans and seas ensuring that these thoughtless ventures self destruct and add to environmental damage.

Heard from a source that they were to move it to a dry dock at glistening waters, but some smart marketing person said it could ride out the storm.

The technology is there if not complete ethics and integrity. Although Butch wasn't an angel, he had certain good minimum standards and others followed.
Hopefully that thing had not just collection but treatment also. I know that cruise ships (at least the ones in American waters) treat sewage back to drinking water purity before
draining into the ocean. The residue ends up like flakes and is taken to shore. What bothers me more is food scraps. I understand everything is ground to minute granular mass
and deposited in the ocean no less than 15 mls out. That means maybe many fish that once ate only vegetable matter are no longer doing so. Bone, meat and what have you being swallowed
perhaps.

An environmentalist told me that prior to environmental consciousness ships used to toss every broken item overboard, bed, furniture. 'ebryting!'.
