Has West Indies batting ever been this wea?
As Tante & I observe - not sticking to the basics!
batting/bowling both have issues
In reply to Chrissy
I have seen weaker batting. I'm not sure I've seen so much inexperienced batsmen in one team.
In reply to Chrissy
This team is a rebuilding team.
The potential is great:
Louis, Mc Kenzie, Athanaze and Hodge should be given a good run to see what they gat.
If they could spend some time at the crease in this series will be nice
In reply to kern
You don't see the problem. All of them have been put on stage underprepared. None learned @ FC level how to build an innings vs tough opposition. They'll make good scores but not consistently, not without a high performance training regimen. Talent and attitude can only take you so far. Notice, Marlon had talent but neither right attitude nor FC grounding and ended with 30sinting avg. If he wasn't mentally tough it would've been 25 like Hope
The team that Ganga captained a while back was as weak, actually Ganga had the worst performance as a batter on that team, it ended his Test career. Only Chanderpaul on that team did anything with the bat
The question will they learn from this or are they just hard headed
In reply to dayne
that team Ganga captained in England had talent
this team just doesn't have it
the team went to Sri Lanka was very inexperienced as well
Yes from since in the 1990s .
The captain of this team who is supposed to be their premier batsman is still averaging in the low 30's after 14 years as test opener while the others who played tests average in the 20's.
So i would say yes to the OP.....
In reply to Chrissy
Didn't the team that recently won a test in Australia have weaker batting and even less experience?
In reply to Chrissy
This might be one of the weakest on paper. I am not ready to admit that this is actually so. Maybe after the series there maybe some clearer perspective
In reply to Chrissy
probable not, but the batsmen are not getting the opportunity to play enough first class cricket, can't blame them
West Indies will only win.....if some old Pommieland players does a racist remark...they will win second test with all chest thumping...tired of this once in bluemoon victories....
Same thing has happened many times before... seriously players must show some discipline and get their act together

Blaming the young inexperienced lads
Even though Tage had only himself to blame, I felt he should have been on this tour with the backup opener. The question I have is if the coaching staff worked with him to improve his game or was he just discarded. Possibly the same question with Myers and maybe Bonner. Hope might have been a good man in this side as well.
There is definitely a need for stickability at the crease
In reply to jacksparrow
You wanted to see some ugly batsmanship with both openers?
What is ugly batsmanship? Those hoicks in t20 that boost the score? Or the so called west indian flare that result in calypso collapsos
Actually i was looking at the little experience those guys might have brought.
Anyway the fact is when u want a record call the Windies, think they tryed to have Anderson end his career with a fifer
In reply to jacksparrow
I get it. You saying Tage should have been opening instead of is it Paint or Loius.
Look now he gone. Poke poke until a ball with your name on it comes. Boom yuh out.
Well i am saying he and kraig should have been tried at least fr the first test with coaching staff working with Tage to build on what he had already- its very likely that the team would have got more runs on the board. This is test cricket, men have to build, grind down and pounce on scoring opportunities- the latter is what is missing. Manufacturing shots in The longer version is not getting u anywhere. I would prefer to see(our) batmen occupy the crease in Tests.
In reply to Chrissy
I can't remember any weaker but it's compounded by the fact that english conditions are the most difficult esp for an underprepared inexperienced batting line up....hence it's lambs to the slaughter!!!
In reply to CCW
Agree with the under prepared comment
In reply to Chrissy
when you destroy the test careers of sarwan, gayle, both bravos and attempt to destroy shiv chanderpaul's career, this is he logical conclusion
County cricket was always seen as the finishing school years ago when most our players played here but who would offer a contract to any of our batsmen on this showing i guess the only option for them is to go the lancashire league route otherwise they will just stagnate playing our regional cricket on poor pitches!
In reply to Walco
The exception-Stats Lies and Damned lies. The 1st ever WI team in 1928 was the least experienced.
Bharat tonned up on debut. Chrissy's point is 4 of this team's top 5 has no quality experience in neither test nor FC.
Past days you had to be very special (ala Rowe, Kali, Hoops, Prince Viv, openers) to not debut as a #6 and work your way up.
Well, the WI is being disadvantaged by not having their best batters playing in all formats, King, Rutherford, Chase and others have the international experience and techniques to better deal with this level of cricket

Well said bro

I predicted the damage done by Hilaire would last at least 12yrs, gonna be much more! This mgt and coach should've have inserted DaSilva and Holder between some of the newbies.
Evidence in this test suggests it wouldn't matter but should've been done with the role outlined to them not too late and can still have long term results.
In reply to kern
The potential is great? Really now.
Please define great. How many of these players have a regional first class average of 50 (great) ior above 40 (good)?
In reply to Brerzerk
You nailed it
In reply to CCW
Underprepared at all levels
In reply to Brerzerk
Add the Digihell damage by Dave - Jumpy is correct. Careers were destroyed over C&W contracts
Lets see what da silva and holder bring to the table
Need batting practice?
...invite WI for a tour!
Need a send off for a player?
...invite WI for a tour!
In reply to Chrissy
Under-Prepared!!!
The same things Lara writing in his book that account for the failures of the mid 90s still in place today…30 years later?!?!?!
In reply to googley
Sad but true
One idea someone had suggested was, the inexperience players could have been sent on the Emerging players team to Ireland for the 4-days games in order to prepare. Ireland played their Test players in the last match against the Emerging WI team.

Why Tage wasn't given a good run?

In reply to Cricket_101
tage has no technique. he's a walking wicket against everybody except zim
In reply to Chrissy
Yes, during the time that we were represented by the SCABS.
In reply to Jumpstart
In Australia he stand up to hostile bowling... Agreed, he has to work oh his technique, but whom in the current squad don't?
In reply to Cricket_101
he stand up?
he scored 31 runs from 4 innings
In reply to Drapsey
True although some a dem had better first class averages than this bunch
In reply to Jumpstart

His down-under avg. 23.87
In reply to Chrissy
How can 'trained' and experienced managers take so long to see and correct organizational mistakes Chrissy, how?
WI starts every series very, badly and then improve lil bit after no proper prep yet surprised at piss poor performances
