Paris Olympics 2024
BVI squad
If anybody finds any other squads, please post them....
I expecting at least 20 medals from my Yardie team and another 10 or so from the other parts of Culpepper Island.
Caribbean medals:
Jamaica: Thompson and Sharika (if fit) set for golds or silvers. Additional quality yardie athletes may cop medals
Grenada: hardware possible from Peters and Victor. Kirani shot his load don't expect him to medal
Trinidad: maybe cyclist Paul in with a shout.
Barbados: Sada Williams has to run out of her skin to medal
Dominica: Lafond should be in podium mix
St. Lucia: Alfred looks the real deal should medal. Tough battles v Shakari, Gabby and the mighty Americans. Yardie Sharika (if fit) will be hard to beat.
Guyana: sorry nothing to see here. Maybe next Olympics.
In reply to mikesiva
Very strange. No relay subs for the 4 x100. Terrible idea plus what if there is an injury?
With the 4 x4 you can always use hurdlers
In reply to rudebway
they probably just don't list the alternates.
In reply to mikesiva
Guyana squad
Any medal hopes for the Caribbean athletes other than the Jamaicans?
In reply to Ridge
Yes, Alfred will medal, Peters likely too as well as LaFonde. BVI and Bahamas 400 and 400h, hurdles iffy. Dom Republic for sure 400m W, could surprise bigly in mixed 4x4.
Sada of Bim has gone of the boil a bit and I am disappointed because I am a fan for MANY reasons Cubans should win some long and triple jump medals. Don't expect
Yard to have a medal count to match last few Olympics nor worlds but the squad could surprise.
In reply to culpepperboy
I like your optimism....
But my expectations are tempered a bit this year. I'd be happy if Jamaica took home nine medals.
1st half
Morocco 1 - Argentina 0
Morocco 2- Argentina 1
Full time
Morocco 2 Argentina 1
Truth be told - the ref should have blown it off before that equalizer from Argentina
In reply to Chrissy
That was some serious amount of injury time wow
In reply to Halliwell
Unbelievable plus 27 seconds. PHEW - looked like vulgar tiefing
Morocco won 2-1 Argentinian was offside.
In reply to mikesiva
I expect no more than 6 this year.Any more will be bonus.
Jamaica will get at least 10 medals, take that to the bank, barring injury offcourse.
Ah the same bedwetters as before Trials. I can see Jamaica having the possibility of earning up to 14/15 medals. Does it mean we WILL get them? No. But the athletes there are capable of giving us this.
T&T always sends a whole heap ah people to these games and comes back empty-handed!
In reply to Chrissy
It was also great to see Iraq beating Ukraine 2-1.
In the men's judo, Ashley McKenzie (Jca) won his first round bout.
Unfortunately, he lost in the round of 16 to his Turkish opponent.
Best Opening Ceremony ever - amazing given the rain
In the pool this morning
Swimming
4 x 1
Did Brianna Lyston make the team?
In reply to camos
Not as far as I can see, from the team in the opening post....
Unless she's a reserve for the relay.
Argentina beat Iraq 3-1 to make that group open up.
Ukraine playing Morocco now....
In reply to mikesiva
On the 72nd Anniversary of Jamaica winning 4x4 gold and setting a WR we could not field An Olympic 4×4 squad. Franco is right that the reason is stupidity but it is stupidity borne of arrogance
In reply to Brerzerk
You are still being kind.
In reply to camos
Bryana lyston shut her season down after the ncaa and did not compete at trials so no, she is not on the team.
In reply to rudebway
Maybe there is some truth to Oral Tracy claim that she is about to switch nationality!
In reply to camos
Athletics start on Friday
In reply to mikesiva
When did they change the medal table from quality of medal to the number of medals won? I see China with 5 gold medals and USA on 3 but USA head the table.
In reply to nitro
It depends which medal table you look at. The Americans always count the number of medals, regardless of colour. But the rest of the world, including the IOC, places more emphasis on the quality of the medals.
Japan now leads the medal table
1st Northern Ireland gold in 36 years.
800m freestyle
In reply to mikesiva
US will change the count method if and when they have substantially more Gold but not more medals
In reply to Brerzerk
Flora Duffy (Bermuda) put up a good fight in defence of her women's triathlon Olympic title, but the run proved a bridge too far....
Gold - Cassandre Beaugrand (France) 1:54.55
Silver - Julie Derron (Switz) 1:55.01
Bronze - Beth Potter (GB) 1:55.16
5) Flora Duffy (Ber) 1:56.53
In reply to mikesiva
Thanks for the link. I have been following the NBC feed here in NJ so that explains it! Let's go Jamaica!
In reply to mikesiva
Per the Jamaica gleaner, Sherika pulled out of the 100m. Only doing the 200. Clearly there was more to that injury when she pulled up a few weeks ago
You do recall me earlier in this discussion string saying they needed backups for the 4 x 100.
In reply to rudebway
So does this mean Kemba Nelson will be called up for the relays?
In reply to nitro
I don’t know. From social media pictures, it appears that Alania Reid is in Paris. She would work. They could also use the hurdler Akera Nugent or the 200m lady Lanae Thomas. Apparently they told Kemba she would have to pay her way. I guess if they call her up they would have to pay.
The Jaaa is incredible. Shericka was hurt 3 weeks ago. Shelly has been running with a knee brace. Not sure why you wouldn’t proactively bring reinforcements
I have never heard of a olympics that had so many complaints . from a drag queen parade ,to trannies boxing biological females .countries being forced to fly in personal chefs because the food provided to them is plant based standard not suited for high level athletes who need more protein .no ac in hotels some experimental green technology is being used. Cardboard beds in athletes village wtf?
France had to prove it is a leader in progressive policies but it fell flat and had the opposite effect
In reply to velo
give it a rest...none of this affect your daily life, does it?
In reply to ray
what are you talking about? so i cant say anything about the athletes conditions in paris ?does the ukraine war effect anybody in here?or gaza? and what do you know about my daily life sir
In reply to rudebway
What a blow! Hope she can do a 4x1 leg roung di ben' fi wi.
In reply to velo
complain complain complain...if what you see affects your sensibilities, then don't watch
You sound stupid at best
In reply to velo
From a nutritional standpoint the not enough protein for pro athletes in plant based diet is BS.
Tofu and other soy products can be cooked in a zillion ways. Soy is as complete a protein (all essential amino acids) as any meat
less animal fat/cartilage. Premier athletes (many) have had their personal chefs for decades now. Combining different plant based foods
(eg Beans/Rice) can provide enough protein for any human endeavor
In reply to Brerzerk
Lots of pro athletes on plant based diet
The Canadian ladies avoided elimination with a 1-0 victory over Columbia after losing the 6 points earned in their first two matches via penalty from FIFA.
Their appeal to The Court of Arbitration for Sport was dismissed. They remain unbeaten but will finish second behind France in the group ....
In reply to Brerzerk
it should be a indivisual choice between them and their coaching team about their nutritional needs and correct balance of carbs and protein and the quantity of these which may differ based on indivisual sports
In reply to Brerzerk
Tofu and Soy have negative effects on hormones, especially men. Some supplement with vegan (soy free) protein supplements but nothing beats protein from whole foods sources.
In reply to Kay
There were a number of Caribbean swimmers in today's heats of the men's 50m freestyle, but the only one advancing to the semi-finals was Jordan Crooks (Cay), who clocked the second fastest time of 21.51.

In reply to Acid
She looks good in more ways than one!
US WR
Poor baton change Yard but can still qualify given the time.
In reply to mikesiva
Just read about Distin's failure in the high jump.
The circumstances and her reasons bring water to my eyes as
she blames the Jamaica Administrators...her coach was not there
to give aid for such a Technical event.
There should be hell to play after this Paris Jaunt as another athlete who
was qualified for her event was not on the team and had to got to
the Sports Courts ,which could not help.
After previous comments by Coach Mills, I have to wonder if some of the JAAA
JOA are not deserving of having bricks thrown at them.
I have revised by Medal haul of 6 down to 5 with this Distin affair.

House, Land and Stadium for Alfred!
In reply to rudebway
She grew wings...was flying. Love it.
I told my companions that she would win as USA suffered two
setbacks in previous events and Richardson would not make Gold.
Alfred reigns...

And she deserves it
In reply to hubert
Sweet…
I was telling a Saffie friend of mine on Thursday that the biased US media coverage causes people to cheer against the USA athletes
Now Dominica wins gold in triple jump!
In reply to FanAttick
I do nott cheer against US athletes in track. But as a neutral party watching a sport like cycling avidly, I do cheer against the US and Brits.
The British media is the goto for English coverage of cycling. Their insularity drives me nuts!
It goes Brits, Americans, Australians then Kiwi and SA Whites.....just so unnerving.
So I understand the feeling.
They have so much power, does the English and Americans, they shamed Jumbo Visma into racing for a domestic American who went in a break as strategy by the team and his teammates were forced to race for him when they were able to leave him behind and seek their own win in the Tojr of Spain.
That cost my favorite GT rider Primoz Roglic a chance at his 5th win in that race.... a defining opportunity for his career.
It cost Jonas Vingo a definite win....now, after crashing and losing the Tourde France to Pogacar this year, he sits at 2 Grand Tours down on his rival!
I was never more upset about a sport situation as I was then!
Yeah.....root for your Nation, but be mindful that your broad ast is tuned into by multiple English Nations who rely on your coverage.
In reply to JOJO
Just seen that...Congrats Thea Lafond...
Well done .
Jamaica's Ricketts got the Silver in same event.

JA representing dis morning
In the heats it had a man from Tonga run a Personal Best of 12.11
Not sure how he even made it to the Olympics. They should have some minimum qualification standards. Women running faster than he
Quite a few running 11+ seconds too
In reply to Chrissy
Yes. A really good morning of heats. The Sherika withdrawal hurts but the athlete this morning looked good. More to come later in the day hopefully.
On another note, Gabby Thomas looks ready.
In reply to rudebway
Deandre Watkins, the jamaican national 400m trials winner finished dead last in his heat. his olympics is over. no men's 4 x 400 relay. He was one of those who elected not to run to try to qualify the relay team.
In reply to rudebway
Sorry to see. But most folks do not expect much from these 400m runners.
I don't expect any to make the semis much less final...maybe Powell...
That event, the Signature One in Jamaica's Olympic History from 1952, has been a
very sore point to T&F followers in the Island.
Something is wrong and it will get worse if proper steps are not made to get things
back on course.
Jamaica should never go to an OLympics without x Mens 4x400 . The Honour of
Wint, Rhoden, Laing and McKenley should never be dimmed.
Men running 44 in 400m prelims?
In reply to culpepperboy
Yes...And I like my Kirani to do well too.Yes he is older than most if not all there
but he is now a very tactical runner who knows the Event. Don't count
him out of a medal. Would burst my gladbag if it is GOLD.
In reply to hubert
Steven Gardnier from the Bahamas was a DNS. excellent. i am salty with the Bahamas due to their cheating at the last Carifta, what they did to the yardies, and them pulling out of the 4 x 400 qualifier.
Kirani is tactical. He is 31 and you cant count him out
In reply to rudebway
He and Bailey in Repechage tomorrow....Bailey's time 44.68 was much better than Automatic qualifyer Powell who ran 45.12
perhaps Bailey can sneak into the semis as that was the 2nd best loser time.
One can only hope.
In reply to hubert
Bailey was in a fast heat but out 400 runners are underwhelming
In reply to rudebway
Oh heck, I miss Gardnier...I wonder why he did not start...Some big time athletes missing
from events. Always support the Bahamians as I like how competitive they are and once
they see a Jamaican, they are more excited to beat them..a nice history too at age group
level.
In reply to rudebway
Underwhelming is a complement .
You could never guess what I refer to them as
Seville has stepped it up on Lyles. That 9.81 is fine and
the rivalry is at peak now..Final should be something else if the other
Jamaican boys get in the 8.
Nicely done Seville
In reply to hubert
Seville …nice
He had a lot more in the tank
In reply to Chrissy and FanAttick
Like it..but a PB in the semis ?? Hope he has reserves. Looked good tho.
Have a bit of concern with Thompson...he is new to this level.
In reply to hubert
Blake had a horrible start
In reply to FanAttick
Oh yes and his top end was not there.
Anyhow 9.75 will win the FINAL...as I see it now .

He always come good when not expected and is always confident..
Yard has to get the Gold here tho.

How the hell did Lyle’s win that race. Oblique really starting to look like this generation’s Asafa Powell. I would have been happy with anybody but Lyles.

Lyles hugging up ah Yaad gyal

By 5/1000 of a second ......
In reply to FanAttick
Yes, Lyles won it on experience!
In reply to FanAttick
I feared that would happen.
In reply to cricketmad
I blame Franno…
You cant coach a man to run only 60 meters when you are preparing for 100 meters
In reply to Kay
Yes he did. Congrats to Lyles. 5/1000 of a sec over Thompson.....McKenley and Remigino of
US all over as in 1952. Closest 100m in 72 years.
Well done Thompson for first Ever Olympic....leaning to tape is an art.
Lyles is deserving.
4/1000th of a second - process dat- good run Kishane 9.79
Lyles should be tested for conkies.
In reply to hubert
Unbelievable - experience counts.
Great run by both of them.
In reply to hubert
He’s an idiot though. Nobody likes him. Not his own teammates(he’s recently started a fight with the American 400m champion)or other American sportsmen
In reply to FanAttick
I had my reservations with the lack of experience thing...has to learn to lean...
At least it would have been a Dead Heat.
But Thompson will get better.
In reply to hubert
You have to give Lyles credit. I was shocked he won. My eyes were on Kishane and Kerley
In reply to rudebway
De man finish like a train
In reply to Chrissy
Yes. Figured Thompson would win with 9.75..Kerley was right there but Lyles
experience in going the rounds helped and his lean was decisive.
Great race...
Kishane looks like he wasn't moving in the last 25m
In reply to hubert
Kishane’s a body language looked a bit suspect..seems nerves got the better of him…hopefully he’s not Asafa 2.0
In reply to StumpCam
Experience helps, but Noah is a serious talent.
In reply to rudebway
Yes I gave him credit...the experience mattered and his lean was what got Thompson
whose inexperience showed...but he will learn as he is younger and will improve.
This is an absolutely New International thing for him.
Kudos to him..he has what it takes to get real good.
In reply to NYCGURU
Best finisher in de business.
In reply to FanAttick
I thought of Asafa just before the race ..another Franno Charge
9.79 should not have got Thompson....and Seville did not have much
left in the tank..Both are young...more races in the International Arena
will be invaluable to their growth.
In reply to FanAttick
I think they were all nervous in such a big event, but Lyles finishing speed and and lean earned him the victory! IOW he ran the perfect race where any little mistake would cost you!
Damn! Seville finished last. Wouldn’t have thought that after the semi
He will be back
Respeck to Noah Lyles
In reply to FanAttick
Only asafa 2.0 is Seville
Just few days ago, Francis said that experience doesn’t matter. It’s all about speed.
So is leaning at the tape about experience or speed?
In reply to imusic
Seville drained his tank with PB in the Semi.. Got to have
reserve for the Final...Noah Lyles had it..he lost all his races before the Final. Big lesson.
Rounds management matters...Shacari Richardson will learn that too after her first Olympics.
In reply to hubert
I don’t think Lyle’s reserved anything in the rounds. Maybe in the first round. He got beaten in the semis and was lucky that Kishane didn’t lean and looked like he was coasting for the last ten meters
In reply to Da-Vincy
I was a bit surprised when he said that...Everyone has speed in a Final of
this kind or World's...breasting the tape is an advantage in close races.
McKenley in 1952 had a similar experience with Remingino of USA as both hit the tape..
Even today some still think that Herb won that 100m Gold; it was that close.
Herb was more a 200m-400m man but could sprint.
Some experts still rate him as the greatest sprinter ever,,,reached three Sprint
finals, 100m,200m and 400m at Olympics but never won the Gold.
The IOC/Olympic archives do have the race on tape.
In reply to Jumpstart
He did./..he probably wanted to win all those races but when he saw speed
he decelerated...he is used to doing that...was more obvious
in the SEMI with Seville.
Bolt did same all the time when on top of his game..but would cool the jets.
Some still scold him for not pushing for a faster time in the WR 200m run.
In reply to hubert
I gotta give it to Lyles. The man backs up his chat big time. There were other experienced runners in that race but he rose the highest and greatest to the occasion so I gotta give him his flowers. I had Kishane, Lyles and Simbine but I was totally wrong. This man Lyles, as loudmouthed and annoying as he is, does back up what he says and is a great finisher on the BIG STAGE. Kishane and Oblique are young and will learn.
In reply to hubert
So Yard taking to Field Events and St. Lucia will carry the Sprinting. lol
Looks like your wish came true
In reply to DukeStreet
Bolt told him not to change...the Sports needs such a personality.
I enjoy his antics ,showmanship, whatever..Certainly makes Track and Field
a nice entertainment especially if he wins.
In reply to Acid
And that would be a wonderful thing on both counts.
In reply to hubert
Sports needs guys with charisma. I agree. Noah Lyles is not charismatic. Bolt was charismatic, Michael Johnson was charismatic, Carl Lewis was charismatic. Noah is just a runt who needlessly starts fights to get likes and views. Two weeks before the Olympics, he was questioning Quincy Hall’s place on a USA 4x400m team. Quincy hall is his teammate and possibly even a relay teammate. Last year he was questioning the legitimacy of the NBA champs calling themselves champs of the world. If seeking attention was a person. And I understand why athletics puts up with it. The sport really hasn’t been doing very well since the retirement of bolt and a few others. It’s struggling for personalities. But I don’t think Lyles is what it needs
In reply to Kay
Man pull up after 80 meters yes
Thompson should have run hard through the finish line, he had the race won, I guess the coach will remind him about that next time.
4/1000th of a second
The finish
In reply to Jumpstart
Adidas and Murcan athletics should put mouth and money on Levrone, Rai, Gracious and charming.
In reply to dayne
Thompson was decelerating faster than Lyles after the 70m mark. No way he would have won that...plus his technique was falling apart the last half of the race. Some would say "him pipe buss". He's young and inexperienced enough to learn from this so no worries.
In reply to DukeStreet
Boy right now the whole Caribbean just very sad lol. I ain’t feel a defeat like that since Brazil lost to Croatia on penalties
In reply to Jumpstart
Naah....more like when dem tek way de gold from Ben Johnson in 1988 and and gave to Carl Lewis
that remained de best 100 m I had seen until today's race
In reply to Narper
I was thinking the same thing, think it was the games in South Korea.
In reply to Narper
I wasn’t alive for that. ironically Lyles’ has a very similar character to Lewis: arrogant, whiny, disliked by his own teammates. Right now it virtually having a riot on CNC3 fb page comments section. People rell vex or just rell sad. Is not just that Kishane lost. I don’t think people would have been as disgusted if for example Kerley won. But is that other dude.
In reply to DukeStreet
100M Breakdown progression DIST and TIME.
In reply to camos
Yep that was the Olympics of glamour girl Flo Jo too
Wait no one following tennis?
The Djoka beat Carlos in the gold medal game while the Chinese Zheng won the women's gold ....
In reply to Jumpstart
Agree on the charisma part...maybe Lyles lack a bit of charm...Bolt was exceptional and classy,
but we all a bit different

In reply to Chrissy
Yes. At least one of them moves on.
A bitter pill is that no women will be in the 200m semis
for the first time since the 70s and worse yet
no 4x100 relays ..they could improvise with hurdlers but it's best not to
cause any embarrassment.
The field events Athletes are carrying the flame this time around.
The women have been outstanding over past couple decades
and will continue to do so after unfortunate circumstances in 2024.

So succinct as usual LMAO
It pleases me to seem Jereem Richards' 400m time.
He's a hard worker. Seems wise to have dropped the
200m and focus on just one event. Hoping Peters
upstages the South Asian stars this time.
Maan Kishorn is durable! Thought the guy was done.
In reply to camos
I mentioned to you very early they should have carried kemba Nelson. You said maybe the list didn’t include the reserves. No, they didn’t carry her. Now they had to send for her.
We will run the relays . I see kemba to Alania Reid to Sasha Lee Forbes to Tia Clayton.
In reply to hubert
We will send out a 4x1. It won’t be a gold medal threat but we will cobble one together. I don’t trust Sasha Lee Forbes. She is going to get smoked but I still see them putting her on the relay
In reply to Brerzerk
Jereeem Richards made it to the 400 final so that is good
Ah woulda laff if miraculously the 3 vets come back together next year for one last hurrah an bruk di WR yuh si!
What a crowning moment to their legacy that would be. Shelly, Simpson, Keron and Ver had a chance to do it

The Brianna Elaine Shelly Sherika team could have also broken it but Elaine went out too fast and Brianna could barely catch her to hand off. Elaine was on another level of speed and with Sherika anchoring that was a glorious chance

What a 400m men's final, that was just " the will to win " by the American runner
That 400m was indeed an epic race...first 5, all under 44.secs..
Tremendous run from Quincy Hall 43.40 showed the grit and
fight needed to win the long Sprint..
Congrats to these guys...fine run Richards of T&T for 4th and the veteran and iconic Kirani James
43.87...What a runner...take a bow.
In reply to dayne
That was great. 400 is always the best race.
Trinidad better stop sending athletes to the Olympics and just fix more road.

In reply to granite
T&T had a wonderful set of 400m guys not long ago.
Seems like Track and Field folks have to get a whip out on officials/leaders
and get Athletics back on track...
Jamaica has been losing a bit too with the boys and the 400m especially.
But I know they will regroup as a lot of shamefaced people want
to correct this thing.
The Record run by Richards in today's classic 400m should be an inspiration to
others. I hope it does.
Don't be so hard on them bro, Richard's just duh a ting deh. Contribute in some way to grassroots development as Hubert suggests
In reply to granite
richards did excellent. first Trinidadian to ever run under 44 seconds in a 400m. can't ask for more than that....that too from lane 8. That was the best run i ever saw from a Trinidadian quartermiler, yes even better than cedenio in Rio trying to keep up with a world record run taking place right before him. richards is really a 200m runner. but the competition in the 200m right now is unbelievable and with a possible doper in the mix(oxtail man), he probably thought the 400m was his best option
In reply to Jumpstart
Who’s oxtail man?
Always liked Jereem. Even when he was focused on the 200 and would then run in the 4x4, his leg was always great.
In reply to Da-Vincy
There’s an American athlete named Eriyon Knighton who tested positive for a banned substance. USADA said the test was inadvertent because he told them that he consumed a bowl of oxtail which also is a source of the banned substance. WADA is of the view that USADA did not conduct a proper investigation and is threatening to decertify them.

Boy worse Olympics for Trinidad yes. One final for seventeen athletes sent.tbh this was coming. Most of you know that Trinidad’s national sport is apathy. Bovell saved us in 2004,getting the Caribbean’s first Olympic medal, We were again lucky with torpedo Thompson in 2008 and the 4x100m, and Tyson Gay’s injury. 2012 was actually a good year and was the culmination of six years of sport investment. We had to wait until the penultimate event of the Rio Olympics to get a medal from Keshorn( yes to all the haters, Keshorn Walcott has two Olympic medals, one gold, while some have absolutely none, including Peters who is a two time world champion). 2020 was a predictable disaster( although the 4x400m men were unlucky when Asa Guevara pulled up in the final. 2024 has also been a predictable disaster. I only expected Nicholas Paul and Jereem Richards to make a splash(Paul had a rough sprint but he also has the Kierin on Saturday which I think he’s better at) and Jereem became the first Trinidadian to run under 44 seconds in a 400m,phenomenal accomplishment. Can’t ask for more, especially from lane 8.
I have a feeling though that Los Angeles in 2028 will be a very good games for us

And imagine government subsidizing this entire affair? Place is a bunch of jokers. Maybe if the IMF comes and sends our complacency and general extreme laziness to the Stone Age, we’ll understand that there is a real world that values performance and productivity, not just appearing and appearing early. The Public Servant attitude has done our country the world of harm. Because public servants are not used to being productive, you come in, you sign out you do very little or nothing the entire day and you are not paid on the completion of tasks or general productivity, that laziness has filtered down to ever sector of the society, with disastrous effects. To be honest I can’t wait to leave this place. I mean if misplaced priorities was a phrase in a dictionary, you’d find a map of TT right next to it. Trinidad is probably the only place in the world where you can go into an office, spend eight or so hours there…..doing nothing, either because you’re lazy or you were just hired to partake in the patronage of the state, ostensibly with electoral considerations in mind, and collect a salary at the end of the month
Jamaicans and Barbadians succeed and succeeded at athletics and cricket because they have/had pride in performance. They knew that their standard and status in life appreciated or depreciated based on productivity and performance. As a result, the most talented and the hardest working rose to the top and the inadequate were filtered out. We don’t seem to acknowledge that level of separation in Trinidad. In every sector of Trinidadian life we have become extremely unproductive. So cases in the judiciary take a million years to go to trial, and then witnesses go missing or they’re killed and you have murderers back on the street. Believe it or not, the TTPS is one of the hardest working sectors in the country, they are hamstrung by people’s reluctance to assist in investigations, the tardiness of the court( imagine Sean Luke’s convcted murderers, a case that shocked the country to its core, on the same way the Baboolal murders, Akiel Chambers and the 1990 coup traumatized the country)had their case thrown out and a retrial ordered because the judge made an error). I mean it’s ridiculous. The drought in the Olympics is a small symptom of a much larger malaise.
People think Jereem reaches finals because he’s talented. Jereem is the hardest worker in TT sports right now, that’s why he reaches to finals. I think it helps that he trains in the US as well, a place where extremely high standards are set and maintained. I mean the US has its issues like everywhere else but productivity is certainly not one of those issues. It’s a lesson Trinidadians don’t understand for the most part
It’s not incompetence. If anything Trinidadians are not incompetent which makes their behavior and attitude even worse
Seeing JA out of the 4x1 from the 1st round is like attending a friend's funeral. Hope a good team practice vaton change for Worlds. Not fair to a Kishane and a Seville to reach individual final and not have relay support

That being said, I’m very disappointed in TT’s performances except Jereem and Keshorn, who had surgery this year. If he had to win, he had to put in his best effort and he did under the circumstances. But as I said in an earlier post, TT’s struggles are a symptom of a general malaise in the TT psyche: entitlement and apathy

Must run out of her skin to medal. Her examples are Quincy Hall and Samukonga the way they took down the front runners in a high-class Men's 400 was awesome. They left everything on the track. Sada has to do similarly or be an also ran.
In reply to Prako
Jereem didn’t come last in his race. St Lucia, Dominica and co never medaled before but Grenada has surpassed us in Athletics. Not that I am disappointed in Grenada’s rise as an athletics powerhouse in the region, but Trinidad’s decline has been coming a long time now. As I said in an earlier post, 2012 and Keshorn’s gold were the result of 6 years of work prior to that Olympics and also a very fortuitous change in the direction of the wind that hampered the other athletes in that javelin competition. But in2004, George Bovell saved our blushes. I remember being in a hotel in Montego Bay and waking up 3 in the morning to watch George swim in the 200IM. 2008 Richard Thompson was the reigning NCAA champ and the medals came from him. Bovell was unfortunate to get in that accident that caused him not to be able to swim in the 200IM, which was his best event and having to adjust to the 50m free which he was never comfortable in, even though he medaled in it in the world champs. And he was also unfortunate to go up against dopers like Cesar Cielo in that event. But generally, we’ve had poor games with one or two very good performances that masked mediocrity.
As I said, 2012 was our best games. Richard Thompson reached the final of the fastest 100m ever, nothing to be ashamed of there. Just to reach that final was an exceptional accomplishment because of the quality of the field. Gordon got bronze in the 400m and the 4x4 men got bronze, an event we had not medaled in since 1968 and of course Walcott got the gold. The 4x1 men came fourth initially, then got third because Canada had a lane infringement and then got silver because Tyson Gay had been using an anabolic steroid prior to the games. As I also said, our best Olympic showing and the culmination of 6 years of investment by the state.
2016 was a disaster,we had to wait until the second to last event of that Olympics, the javelin to get a medal. Again I remember watching it in Zanzibar by the sea. And 2020 was even worse. Only Jereem, Paul and the 4x400 men acquitted themselves well in that meet.
It’s the public servant mentality of showing up, doing as little as possible ad getting a salary because the state retains the elite athlete program. If I was GORTT, you’d only get funding if you reached the finals of your event or had a good track record before the games. So Nicholas Paul, Jeremiah and Keshorn right now would have been the only people to get funding.

I am disappointed that Trinidad hasn't kicked on from the success of Walcott in 2012....

Sydney's coach has allegations against him though.
This was the question that coach Bob Kersee allegedly posed to the American sprinter Darrell Robinson at a Mexican restaurant in Long Beach, California, in October 1987.
“Anavar and Dianabol,” said Robinson.
“Very good, that’s what my people also take,” Robinson said Kersee responded.
Months later, Kersee allegedly provided Robinson with bottles of those same two banned anabolic steroids, Dianabol and Anavar, which were widely used by Olympic athletes at the time, after a dinner at Kersee’s home.
https://honestsport.substack.com/p/the-past-steroid-allegations-against-044
Angela Bailey, testifying at a government inquiry, said before accepting a track scholarship to UCLA in 1985 Kersee promised to coach her even if she did not take anabolic stereoids.
'I said that I've heard these rumors that he was a drug coach,' said Bailey, sixth in the 100 meters at the Los Angeles Olympics. 'The only reason I'm going to go down to the United States is if you can make me that promise that you can coach me without drugs. But if you can't, then I won't be there. And he basically said, 'Just believe in me, just trust me.''
Kersee is the husband and coach of Jackie Joyner-Kersee who won gold medals in the heptathlon and long jump at the Seoul Olympics.

Quite a few Hollywood folks were involved in cricket..Aubrey Smith a former player from England
wand who became an actr introduced the game to his fellow actors and
built a nice cricket ground in the area early 1900s
That ground had cricket a long time and was swallowed up to make room for 1984 LA Games.
Can't remember the name of the cricket field.
Cricket has a long history in LA/California and was the first stop for Australian touring teams
on way to England before Air travel was common, and also the last stop on their way back home.
In fact from LA they cross USA and did same thing in Philadelphia before shipping to
England and played a game or two there on their way back to LA before shipping back home.
Those were heady days...tours would last almost 9 months for Aussies back then.
Ivy League Colleges, Harvard, Penn,Yale et al and Haverford College near Philadelphia
all had cricket and it was a lettered sport as Football and BB is today.
Haverford still has cricket and is the longest continuous playing institution although their
Cope Field shifted from turf to astro turf pitch decades ago.
Their field is across the road from Merion Cricket Club which in the 19th century was rated
a finer field than Lord's and other Test venues.
Maybe UCLA engaged some Eastern Colleges back in the day, tho I doubt it..
Major League Baseball only got to California in the mid to late 50s when Giants and Dodgers
left New York City.
Travel ,distance and time was a hassle back in the day but it is possible that UCLA played
against Ivy League cricket teams back in the day.

NCCA- NorCal Cricket Ass was established in 1892! I know thar up to say 2012 there were 3 divisions. Top Norcal team used to play vs. top SoCal team, maybe still. Because of Silicon Valley there was an explosion of new talent and even more teams. Marin CC had the widest pool of nationalities. Ozzies, Kiwis, Waffles, Zimmers (including Olongo) and Pakistanis
