Fast bowler Jeremiah Louis has been ruled out of the final Test between West Indies and England due to a hamstring injury, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced in a statement. The visitors have opted for a like-for-like replacement, bringing Akeem Jordan into the squad.

Louis, who did not feature in the first two Tests, picked up the injury during the second Test at Trent Bridge.

He will remain with the squad for further treatment. Jordan, who was playing cricket in the UK at the time of his call-up, has already joined the squad and will take part in Wednesday’s training session at Edgbaston.

Jordan is yet to make his Test debut but has featured in 19 first-class games, taking 67 wickets since 2022 at an average of 24.10. His performances include two five-wicket hauls with a best innings haul of 5 for 44.

Apart from Jordan, West Indies already have Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales and allrounder Jason Holder as their seam-bowling options in the squad.

The visitors are 2-0 down in the series, having conceded the Richards-Botham Trophy with one game still to go, after losing at Lord’s by an innings and 114 runs and then at Trent Bridge by 241 runs last week.

The third Test gets underway on Friday, July 26. (ESPNcricinfo)

The series is already gone and based on how they’ve been playing a 0-3 sweep is expected. So I would use this opportunity to rest Alzari Joseph, since he’s been very expensive, not a wicket taker as per his record, after 34 tests he is yet to get 100 tests wickets and only one 5 for. Sharma Joseph doesn’t look fit so maybe both Joseph’s should take some rest. I know McKenzie has failed miserably but I sure wouldn’t drop him since we only have one reserve batsman in Zachary McCaskie, who is just not looking like a test batsman and just can’t understand why he is the only reserve in the squad.

we have Imlach who batted at No 3 for Guyana and had a very successful FC season this year. I would certainly give him a chance as I would Jordan in the final test.

Jordan is there as a body since he was playing in the UK, 14th man duties.

That’s true, but he seems to be seen more as a backup wicket keeper to Joshua. Although McKenzie has failed so far, let’s not forget he is only 23 and was probably the most consistent batsman against the Australian quicks on faster and bouncier pitches, so we need to be patient with him. Honestly my only change would be either to give the new ball to Holder or Shamar Joseph, instead of Alzari or just drop Alzari and play Jordan for more batting depth. We can’t have Wood terrorizing our batsmen with pace and our quickest bowler is doing nothing except give away runs

I doubt they will rest Alzarri, he is two wickets away from 100 Test wickets. He seems to be improving, the last Test he looked better than in the first Test.

Overall, despite the extreme pace that Wood bowled with, the batsmen played him very well and were far from terrified. Sinclair, prior to being struck by the ball that has unfortunately broken his arm, was actually joking with Wood saying "your pace is down a bit"

Mikyle Louis played him superbly...that 97mph rocket was handled with such ease and composure, it had all of the commentators impressed.

What he did was create intense pressure from his end, allowing the bowlers from the other end to profit.

Wood is patently quick, at times, very quick...but his home record is hardly impressive. He just does not really pick up wickets on English pitches, which obviously are conducive toward seam and swing, as they always have been. Sadly for Wood and England, his career has been blighted by numerous injuries. He has a great heart though, coming back at age 34 and maintaining spells in excess of 90mph throughout the whole day, rather than just his initial burst.

I want to see them utilize Alzarri Joseph differently. He cannot be relied upon to deliver an Ambrose like consistent spell of accurate, probing short of a length fast bowling. However, he is a wicket taker. Use him more as a strike bowler, shorter spells and more attacking method. For example, Harry Brook, very fine young player that he is, does not play short pitched bowling well. Alzarri should test him early and often, as the Australians did. He will go for runs but he will take wickets too. Especially against this English approach.
