Today is the second and last day.
Yesterday, Kamau Leverock scored 153 opening.
Kamau Leverock is the nephew of Alvin Greenidge and Dwayne Leverock.
Alvin Greenidge is a former Barbados and West indies batsman,
whose career was vcut shrt by his RSA Rebel tour.
Alvin's brother Dave Greenidge, is a Barbadian who resides in Bermuda.
Dave Greenidge also represented Bermuda in cricket.
He is a classy batsman, who rivals Alvin in technique.
Dwayne Leverock is the burly Bermudian off-spinner who took arguably the best ever 50 Overs World cup catch in 2007.

Did Alvin Greenidge play for Empire?

Nice. Isn't that rivalry not close to a hundred or more years ?

History of Bermuda Cup Match

I actually do not remember. I thought it was Spartan, but memory not there now.

I remember him being one of the best players of spin that ever was.
Also, anytime the wicket was wet, his medium pace bowling was deadly.
Back in those days, the wickets were uncovered during rain.
I watched him in quite a few Shell Shield games,
and some local first division games.

Very classy batsman.

Thanks very much...revived some of my memory about Bermuda cricket.
Jamaica used to play Bermuda or club teams from Bermuda from early on
as they were closer to the Island than the rest of the Caribbean.
Alma 'champ' Hunt remains an iconic figure and perhaps Bermuda's best.
He played in WI Trial matches in 1939 prior to the WI tour of
England that year.
Many felt at the time he was good enough to make the touring party.
How he came to be invited is not documented but Bermuda was not
a member of the WI cricket community.
However, the 'Bible' of cricket Wisden ,had mistakenly included his name
as a Test player for WI for years. Obviously they confused him with namesake
from Trinidad Errol A C Hunte who played for WI in the 30s.
Correction was duly made in the 70s.
Many Barbadian cricketers as well as Jamaicans made Bermuda their home
and perhaps still do and not for cricket exclusively.

As a teen I attended matches with a Bermuda team,Pond Hill Stars in mid-late 50s.
That party played against some Jamaica Senior Cup teams and others of less ability
and they had a very good player, Charles Dauphin who was a solid allrounder
a good bat and fast medium bowler who made a great impression on the
Jamaican cricket public.
Cricket apart, Bermuda was one of Jamaica's strongest opponents of the football
field after WW 2 and very competitive in Track and Field also.
And the annual cricket contests and rivalry with Canada and USA are still
talked about fondly.
Hope their cricket regain the stature of years ago as Bermudians are talented sports people.

Thanks for the information.

Bermuda sports suffering nowadays.

Like the West indies, youths are not interested in sports generally.

I came here in 1988, so I am not aware of some of the history. save research and story telling.

I played cricket here (still do for PHC now)
I played for Police n the past, but I was mainly a commercial league guy.

I am told a guy by the name of Robert Hinds played cricket in Bermuda.

OK.. I think Bermuda's last cricket tour of Jamaica was around the time you arrived or
close..They held their own in 3 day game(FC) too .And if memory serves one
Gareth Breese was a member of the Jamaica Team.
I know things cricket have declined in Bermuida and it wasn't too long ago
they would appear in WI tournament and did well .
Maybe the WI Board could play a role and involve them along with Canada and USA
in the white ball tournaments with an eye on the Regional 4 day if these teams
can be competitive. Everyone would benefit.
BUT you know what will be mooted....NO Money smile

For a while now, i have been saying that
Windies should include the likes of
USA, Canada, Bermuda, and Caymans in their competitions.

They could do like a few years ago where only the West indies territories qualify for a playoff in the top 4.
At least Windies and those territories would get exposure and ultimately improve.
