With one eye trained on the next two opponents for the West Indies test side, the series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is certainly of interest. Both teams will play two tests against the West Indies in the coming months, beginning with the tour of the Caribbean by Bangladesh in November. This series will be followed by a tour of Pakistan when the West Indies will face their opponents in January. Before Bangladesh face the West Indies, they will also play a two test series in India. Pakistan will be busy facing off against England at home (three test series), followed by two tests away to South Africa.

1st Test - RAWALPINDI (Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field)

PAK 114/3 (Saim Ayub 56*, Saud Shakeel 42*, Shoriful Islam 2/19)

After a difficult start against the Bangladesh pace bowlers, Pakistan have recovered to 114/3, having been reduced to 16/3 earlier.

the tour of the Caribbean by Bangladesh in November.

Weather at that time of the year isn't always good for cricket.

It should be a competitive series, the WI batters will be challenged again as Bangladesh have good bowlers for WI conditions

Bangla managed to play out the end of day safely. Match nicely poised. Pak has no spinner and it may impact them on the last day.

Day 4

Bangladesh 412/6 (Mushfiqur Rahim 114*, Shadman Islam 93, Litton Das 56, Mominul Haque 50), trail Pakistan by 36 runs.

Nearing parity, Bangladesh continue to steadily creep toward the imposing first innings total set by the home side. The game seems destined for a drawn conclusion but we all know cricket, stranger things can happen put in the middle, especially when pressure is in the equation.

Pakistan requested and were expecting a pitch with pace, bounce and movement. What they got was a slow, low bounce road.

They closed on 23/1 in their second innings, still trailing Bangladesh by 94 runs with one day to go.

Pakistan in serious trouble having slumped to 108/6, still 9 runs behind. They have a fight on their hands to try to save this opening test match after the Bangladesh bowlers tore through their batting order this morning.

The visitors romp home with a 10 wicket victory after dismissing Pakistan for just 146 in their second innings. Only Mohammad Rizwan with a battling 51, on the back of his first innings 171 not out, offered any serious resistance to the Bangladesh attack. Mehidy Hasan Miraz ended with 4/21, with Shakib Al Hasan taking 3 wickets as the home side folded pathetically. Poor batting rather than a difficult surface led to the downfall of Pakistan, who surrendered to Bangladesh for the first time in a test match.

PAK 448/6 dec & 146
BAN 565 & 30/0

Bangladesh won by 10 wkts.

The series stays in Rawalpindi for the decisive second test next week.

In a two Test series, is there a second Test that couldn't be labelled as decisive?

A surprise win by Bangladesh and Pakistan lived up to their reputation of being an inconsistent team. It was very unwise to go into a Test match without a frontline spinner in an Asian country like Pakistan did.
