SSFL....Presentation takes and early lead

PRESENTATION COLLEGE of San Fernando (six points) remained early leaders in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League after winning 2-1 away at Queen’s Royal College yesterday, maintaining a 100% record after two matches.

St Anthony’s College (six) and Naparima College (six) are also perfect after two games after edging East Mucurapo Secondary and Trinity College East 2-1 and 3-2 respectively, while defending champions Fatima College opened their league defence with a huge 8-0 home win over newcomers Miracle Ministries, who have now conceded 14 goals in two matches.
And San Juan North Secondary conceded a decisive second half goal when losing 3-2 to Signal Hill Secondary.

Having drawn goalless on Wednesday, St Benedict’s College and Arima North Secondary both picked up wins yesterday and are now on four points, Arima swamping newly-promoted St Augustine Secondary 5-0 and St Benedict’s defeating Tobago’s Speyside High School 3-1.

Presentation College, St Anthony's stay perfect in SSFL premiership

PRESENTATION College San Fernando eclipsed Queen’s Royal College (QRC) 2-1 to stay perfect after round two of the Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) premier division on September 14.
Goals from Isaiah Jacob and Caleb Boyce in each half gave the Pres Lions a fair 2-0 lead before QRC’s Micah Nelson netted a long-range free kick in the final minutes to salvage a consolation goal.

At QRC Grounds in St Clair, the hosts had an early chance but Jsai Theophilus could not latch on to a high pass at the far post.

Pres, however, took control of the opening period as QRC sought to find their footing. In the fifth minute, Boyce latched on to a close-range header in front of the QRC goal but a nimble Shemuel Cassimy executed a neat reflex save.

Fatima striker Jonathan Mason fractures leg, out for SSFL season

Fatima College forward Jonathan Mason is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) season after suffering a hairline fracture of his right fibula and tibia during his team's premier division match against Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School in Mucurapo on September 14.

Playing their first game of the season, the reigning SSFL premier division champions stormed to an 8-0 win, but their afternoon was tainted in the 57th minute when Mason clutched his leg in pain after being struck by a follow-through in an innocuous-looking tackle. Fatima were up 3-0 at the time of the incident.

Fatima manager Stephen Williams said the 16-year-old Mason will be sidelined for two-three months. Williams said Mason's injury is a big loss for Fatima, as they were expecting the former national under-15 player to kick on after his debut season last year.

PRESENTATION COLLEGE of San Fernando

Is it necessary to put “of San Fernando?”

It is like saying “Real Madrid of Madrid”

We have two Presentation Colleges in T&T

One in San Fernando
Presentation College San Fernando

That is incorrect.

The names of the schools are
"Presentation College" and "Presentation College Chaguanas"

There is no school with the name "Presentation College San Fernando"

Look at the monograms on the School Shirts - they are "PC" and "PCC." There isn't any "PCSF"

The media is still uneducated about this.

Presentation College was the 1st of the "Presentation Colleges" and hence there was no reason to add a City to the name - it is the original. Presentation College Chaguanas came after and they qualified the name of that school by appending the Town location to it.

Fatima salvage 1-1 draw against Naps in round 3 of SSFL

An 85th-minute strike from forward Luke Correia salvaged a point for defending Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) premier division champions Fatima College as they staved off a dominant Naparima College outfit courtesy of a 1-1 result when round three action kicked off at home in Mucurapao. Naps looked the better team in the opening half as the frontline players Akil Vesprey, Xavier France and Jaydon Cparietta searched for an early breakthrough. The Fatima backline stood firm but Naparima’s attack pressed for the go-ahead goal.In the 42nd minute, Naps were rewarded for their efforts as a goalkeeping blunder from Fatima’s Shamal O’Brien saw Darius Procope head home the opener.

The result saw both schools remain unbeaten with Naps securing three wins and Fatima two, so far for the 2024 season.
Additionally, Arima North Secondary handed St Anthony’s their first loss of the season after defeating the hosts 3-1 in Westmoorings.
Similarly, Malick Secondary also ended Signal Hill’s two-match win streak after deploying a 4-2 beating against the Tobago team.

Queen’s Royal College (QRC) also edged Speyside 3-2 at QRC Grounds while St Benedict’s kept Trinity East winless after they snatched a 2-1 victory at Mahaica Sports Complex in Point Fortin.
San Juan North returned to winnings ways when they bettered Eat Mucurapo 2-0 while the match between 2023 Coca Cola Intercol winners Presentation College and St Augustine did not play.

St Benedict's edge 'Naps' 1-0, go top of SSFL premier division

SOUTH zone powerhouse school St Benedict’s College (ten points) jumped to the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) premier division summit on September 21 when they got a tight 1-0 win against four-time premier division winners Naparima College at Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin. St Benedict’s, who won the premier division crown in 2022 and finished runners-up to holders Fatima College last year, got an early first-half goal from playmaker and Trinidad and Tobago youth player Josiah Ochoa to continue their unbeaten run in the young league season.

Also in South, reigning champions Fatima (seven points) made a statement of their own when they got a 2-0 win away to national intercol holders Presentation College (San Fernando) at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

In a rematch of this season’s curtain-raising National Gas Company Super Cup match, Fatima showed their win a couple of weeks ago was no fluke with Levi Smith and reigning SSFL Player of the Year Michael Chaves scoring late in the second half to hand the “Pres Lions” their first loss of the season. Chaves, who fractured his leg during a TT Premier Football League match in March, appears to be working his way back to top form and those signs could be ominous for opposition defenders. Fatima moved up to the fourth spot with the win, with Presentation slipping to the seventh spot.

Yesterday’s results:

St Mary’s (2 Kyle Phillip 2) Signal Hill 2 (Khaleem Trim, Antonio Hopkins)

Arima North 1 ( Micha’Sel John) Malick 1 (Josante Duncan)

St Benedict’s1 (Josiah Ochoa) Naparima 0

Miracle Ministries Pentecostal 1 (Aaron

Presentation Sando 0 Fatima College 2 (Levi Smith, Michael Chaves)

St Augustine Secondary 1 (Elijah Baptiste) St Anthony’s 0

Trinity College East 2 (Khaleem Prince, Zavier Marrishaw) San Juan North 1 (own goal)

East Mucurapo v Speyside postponed.

Naparima and Presentation College San Fernando both tasted defeat for the first time in the league this season, after Fatima also won 2-0 over “Pres” at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium.

Unbeaten St Benedict’s lead the table with ten points from four matches, followed by Arima North and Malick Secondary, both tied on eight points, while defending champions Fatima moved up to join Naparima on seven points, but have played a match less.

Yesterday’s results:

Malick, St Benedict’s in SSFL top five clash

“That loss to Trinity College East woke us up.”
These were the words of Malick Secondary coach Anthony Bartholomew, as he sent a stern warning to his opponent St Benedict’s College ahead of Saturday’s (September 27) crucial clash between second and fifth on the standings in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) at St Mary’s College Ground in Port-of-Spain.Malick entered that match in the third position, seemingly overconfident and unaware of the challenges before them. However, Bartholomew, though disappointed by the 3-2 loss at the Arima Velodrome on Wednesday, said: “It made us know where we are.”The school, dominant in the North Zone in the 1990s, appears to have returned to the Malick of old with a team considered strong in all departments of the game, both Bartholomew and St Benedict’s coach Randolph Boyce said yesterday.“The players were overconfident, but tomorrow (today) we will be ready and confident against St Benedict’s. I think player-for-player we have more energy, more skill and will be able to outdo our opponents tomorrow (today), but then again, the game is played on the day,” Bartholomew explained.

St Benedict’s, like most of the other teams had to undergo a transition period by which they were not severely hard-hit by, due to an ongoing development programme.“St Benedict’s strength has always been discipline, teamwork, and the desire by each player to work for each other. This is what we are going to head into tomorrow’s (today’s) match with and hopefully, it would bring us the right result,” Boyce said.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES

Garcia's double shut out East Mucurapo 2-0

Two goals from captain Derrel Garcia lifted ten-man St Benedict's College to a 2-0 victory over East Mucurapo Secondary Schools in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools FootbalLeague at the QRC Ground, Serpentine Road, Port-of-Spain on Saturday.

The Mucurapo Road men were dogged in defence and held firm for most of the match, while also attempting to play on the counterattack. However, Garcia, a former national youth player who had been a thorn in the East Mucurapo side all afternoon long, could not be stopped in the 59th minute, as he latched on a Cam'Ron Burke forward pass in the centre of the pitch, and from some 20-plus yards out, Garcia unleashed a thunderous low drive that caught Mucurapo goalkeeper Orlando Francis stranded to the opposite side of the goalpost for a 1-0 advantage.

The goal allowed the premier division leaders to breathe easily after a goalless first half in which they dominated but couldn't find a way through the thick East Mucurapo defence.

St Benedict's down Presentation San Fernando 2-0 in SSFL...hehehe

St Benedict’s College sailed six points clear atop the Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) premiership standings after silencing Presentation College San Fernando 2-0 at Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on October 23.

In the top of the table clash, the La Romaine Lions capitalised on their chances and were rewarded for their efforts in the 39th minute courtesy Adam Pierre, who rifled a free kick past Pres goalkeeper Marcelo Phillip.

Four-time premiership winners Naparima College replaced St Anthony’s in fifth position as they eked out a 1-0 result against Signal Hill in Tobago. Naps climbed to 22 points.
