2 dead, toddler among 3 shot in Malick – Gunplay at preschool
A SHOOTING incident in front of Roxann's Learning and Childhood Centre in Malick, Barataria has left two men dead and three others – including a four-year-old boy – nursing gunshot wounds on September 25.
Newsday was told that as rapid gunfire broke out in front of the preschool on Basement Road, screams could be heard as people scampered away, some shielding their children who at the time were making their way into the school.
The two murdered men have been identified as Gerald Caliste and Kemo Caliste. Newsday was told that both men were related to each other but the nature of this relations was not known.

Chase Village man dies in hospital day after being shot in head
The 20-year-old landscaper who was shot in the head at his Chase Village home on September 24, has died at hospital.
Deonarine Roopnarine told Newsday that Ravi St Clair died at around 5.18 pm at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
Murder, robberies, break-in on Republic Day – Dad killed after visiting children
MOMENTS after telling his children goodbye, a 39-year-old man was shot and killed on September 24 – Republic Day.
The victim Marlon Bradley was fatally shot after spending time with his children at their mother's home in Carenage.
This was one of several serious crimes committed during the public holiday.
Point Fortin man gunned down
A Point Fortin construction worker was shot to death on the evening of September 24 while liming near his home in an incident investigators believe was drug-related.
Police said the Point Fortin Police Station received reports of loud explosions at 6th Street, Techier Village, Point Fortin around 7.30 pm.
Officers later found the body of Carlton Mackie, 59, with bullet and chop wounds.
District medical officer Dr Ramjit-Archie ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for autopsy. Police sources said that crime scene investigators recovered two spent shells from nine-millimetre calibre bullets at the scene.
Moruga woman, 69, beaten robbed during home invasion
A 69-year-old female retiree was beaten with a cutlass during a home invasion in Moruga on the night of September 24.
The victim told police she secured her St Mary's Village, Moruga Road home around 8 pm and went to bed. She said that around 1 am she was awakened by her bedroom door opening and saw three men standing inside her room. She said one man had a hammer while the other two had cutlasses. One of the men used the flat side of his cutlass to beat her on the leg while demanding money and jewellery.
Fearing for her life, the woman said she handed over $700 but the bandits demanded more money. The men began ransacking furniture in the room and she noticed a fourth assailant was standing outside her room.
The men then left the house and ran off.
The victim later made a check and realised that $5,000 in cash, a pressure washer valued $3,500, a weed wacker valued $3,500 and a cell phone and Samsung television – both yet to be valued – missing.
