Positives in Changed Selection Policy
In reply to TanteMerle
Depends who makes themselves available.
In reply to TanteMerle
I'd say the youth given more chances.
Lewis is now a problem for VOR
In reply to Windiesfan78
Why give the youth further chances.
One aberation in Ozz win, when Shamar did the impossible.
To rise, Windies need a mixture of experience and youth.
The same old selection can't cut it.
Time to cut bait.
Say bye-bye to the likes of Braffit period.
I say, pick a squad and then cappo.
Braffit is not inspiring and fails.
Failing is not the main issue, but he can't bat.
Windies need to find a way top get Pooran, Heymyer, Hope, Rutherford, Lewis and Hosein in there.
At least in the squad and fighting for the 11.
Even Chase, Mayers, Greaves, should be in contention.
In reply to granite Give credit to Sammy for bringing back Lewis after a mediocre CPL.

Test?
Lewis has NO interest in playing test cricket. He's indicated that in the past.
He's played only a handful of FC matches, and has avoided them as best as he could.
He has no aspirations to be a test cricketer. Only geriatrics and pensioners would suggest otherwise.
In reply to VIX
Lewis is injury prone. Even in 3 games series you have to hold your breath that he doesn't get injured. Once he's able to stay healthy and contribute to the ODai squad and the team can find a replacement for when he's injured then thays good.
We can get a similar player for Tests.
Kraigg needs to go. This auto pick as cappo for about 4 years now can no longer work. The new slextion policy might see him on the out looking in. The opening pair needs to be positive in intent while at the same time having the proper temperament thar will allow them to hold on to their wicket if the bowling happen to be on thay day. Then select a captain that ia performing, can get thw guys to play to the plan and once who's positive in field placement and willing to take risks at times.

Who are these mythical players you speak of?
In reply to positiveg
You think Evin Lewis’ just grow on trees in the region?
He has never played test cricket. He just came back to international cricket after a prolonged enforced absence. How did the “similar players” in the team do?
Come on man
In reply to TanteMerle
For me, Lewis should be in all three formats..... Board should discuss this with both Lewis & Coley....If Lewis categorically refuse....it ends there....but if Lewis agrees....he should be handled properly.....
Louis & Lewis could be a very good combination as opener...
Darren Bravo.....
I may be castigated but Darren Bravo should be in test team....He has wealth of international experience.....just few seasons back, he put everything to play for West Indies but unfortunately, things turned out adversely for non- cricket issue......Board should resolve the issue for betterment of West Indies cricket......
Pooran & Hety would not play red ball....
Braithwaite, must resign as captain & concentrate on batting... should bat at No.4...
Louis
Lewis
Athanaze
Braithwaite
Bravo
Hodge
Carty
Wicket keeper..
Silva
Hope
Imlach
Holder
CWI should have clear discussion, about his availability... specially in test & ODI....
Greaves should be in squad as all rounder...
West Indies will tour Pakistan soon.... Looking at England....West Indies must prepare for extreme turners...ours spinners
Motie
Sinclair
But would require 1 or 2 more spinners..
Cornwall
Permaul
Warican, blue eye of CWI
Few others may be in run Bishop, Nedd,......
King has been given all format contract....
I reserve my comments till see him perform...

I'm saying it would be nice to get similar players. Not saying that there is one. But because of Evin's propensity to get injured. If we csn get a positive batsman like him in Test it will help
Well opening bats thay is
I think a lot of our downfall in present days Test is because of the negativity inbthe batting st the top of the order.
The positives and negatives of the new selection system are the same as the previous system where the exclusion of some players are not explained. How come the top batsman in the last 50-over season was not selected for the SL tour? That player was Greaves. How come a player who cannot hold a permanent place in local teams was selected for the SL tour? That player was Walsh.
In reply to dayne
Greaves bowls spin?
you all think that just because they change a policy suddenly pooran ,hetmyer, hope go suddenly turn up in test colours . that was never the reason they were not playing test cricket they dont want to play test cricket.
In reply to positiveg
I can agree with that. But it’s not just at the top of the order. It’s the batting period.
This is a deliberate “plan” by coaches and administration to have our test batters employ this ultra defensive mindset. I believe it mainly originated as an attempt to imitate the style of Shivnarine Chanderpaul who had so much success using that approach.
But what I hope they have realized by now is that shiv is UNIQUE. Yes you can try to take lessons from his success, but shiv also had the ability to play strokes. That he chose not to and was still successful shows how strong his mind and discipline is. Thats not normal.
All of our test batsmen barring John Campbell adopted that approach. Jermaine Blackwood who was able to bat ended up being yet another strokeless wonder as a result. Blackwood regressed significantly from the batsman that won us a test angainst England.
And the nail in our batting coffin was CWI and media hyping kraigg Brathwaite as our “best batsman”. Kraigg Brathwaite flat out cannot bat. He plays exactly the same way regardless of the state of the match, pitch conditions, or bowling attack. And the fact that he is the leader means the team, and batting take their cue from his negativity.
No wonder the likes of Hope, Lewis, King, Pooran, Hety…..who are our best batsmen…..avoid test cricket like the plague. If that’s the way they’re expected to play……thanks but no thanks.

good analysis
Shiv on his day, and he did have a few, had the ability to play strokes...actually, in his last 4 years or so there was a period from 2011 - 2014 where his SR was 50ish...then it all went down in 2014/2015 (towards the end) - perhaps playing for his place, perhaps age and eyesight etc...this is not to say he was always striking high but he was not always that poker...
what we have now are strokeless (almost) blockers... who never really had the talent of Shiv to start with ( i know some people say shiv hadn't talent, it was hard work yada,...but let me tell them I saw Shiv was age 14 and he was very talented...he was scoring runs against the Ambroses of the world at age 17. i digress)
we simply are not producing that level of talent anymore, save for the odd Pooran, Hetty
In reply to doosra
Shiv had loads of talent. When he first came on the scene, he was almost a shotta. And electric in the field.

Evin Lewis Made History with CPL 2024 First Century
And I believe he has a 50 too
Showed he still has it
He earrned his selecion based on his past record and evidence he still has it
In reply to Narper
Evin Lewis has been very inconsistent in T20 for a while and the CPL was no different. He played 10 matches where had 2 good scores and amassed 248 runs and s/r 126. Sammy selected him as several players made themselves unavailable including Johnson Charles 453 runs / 41 ave/153.22 sr who had to undergo surgery. He gave him a second chance based on 2 knocks out of 10. Inconsistency and fitness has been his problems even though he has been more consistent in ODIS.
Anyone who believes that success in T20 or ODI cricket means that you can be successful at Test cricket are either delusional or ignorant. I have no issues with freelancers being considered for selection to our T20I and ODI squads but Test cricket is a different ball game. Players must be made to play the R4D to prove their capability in test cricket.
In reply to voiceofreason
I disagree. 50-50 players must be considered for Test. That's our problem thinking 50 overs is slam bam...
...the player being debated needs to play more 50-50 or 4 day cricket to be selected.
In reply to natty_forever
The player being discussed has no interest in playing test cricket.
In reply to natty_forever
Well I am in total disagreement. Test has no PP. In Test cricket attacking fields are set and maintained and your technique is severely tested with consistent line and length. There is a reason why Shai Hope averages 49 in odis and 25 in Test cricket.
The only time this should be used is for Freelancers who want to play T20I or ODI cricket that's it. I support this CWI organisation but this policy reeks of desperation due to our lack of progress in test cricket. Forget about the fact that most of the players do not want to play Test cricket.
