The rot must stop. I think that the general consensus is that we need more FC cricket. I do not believe, however, that merely having two rounds of FC will solve the problem. First, a real effort has to be made to improve pitches on which regional games are being played. Second, I propose that there should be one round of FC cricket and this should be, if possible split, among islands so that players get to experience different conditions. I would invite international players who can possibly qualify for WI to join CCC team rather than just stack it with even more local players. I would reintroduce Headley Weekes series with 3 teams representing the best players from the round robin season. From this, I would then pick the A team squad and would prefer if we can do one home tour and one international tour per year with the A team, at least 3 FC matches on each tour. This system should mean that the best players would be getting more red ball games (perhaps up to 15 per year) and against better and better opponents throughout the year.

A multi prong approach is required to make any sort of progress

Yes we need more AND BETTER FC cricket

Yes we need better pitches throughout the region

Yes we need better practice facilities

Yes we need better coaching

Yes we need MUCH MORE sponsorship

The reality is…..we don’t have the $$$ to truly compete.

We are arguably the poorest financially of the test playing nations.

We do not have the financial resources of the top teams

Yet we’re not only expected to be competitive on the field, but we’re also mandated to field women’s teams at all levels who are mandated to receive the same treatment, if not financially, same accommodation, transportation, equipment, etc as the men do.

I don’t envy CWI.

Clear, concise and correct review of the situation. Sadly, it has been this way for years and will likely remain so. The odd performance aside, such as the outstanding display in Brisbane, most of the performances are short of the level required.
