debut: 2/16/24
730 runs
A rare chance for a series sweep starts today at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. West Indies will be looking to repeat their strong showing in the first test at North Sound, where they were comfortable winners by over 200 runs. The tourists meanwhile, will look to put together a better performance, especially with the bat.
The home side may well resist the temptation to alter their line up, given how well they played over the course of the first test match last week. Keacy Carty, Kavem Hodge, keeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva and captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who turns 32 tomorrow, will look for better returns with the bat but the side will be very encouraged by the near hundreds of youngsters Alick Athanaze and Mikyle Louis, together with the excellent maiden century of Justin Greaves. The bowling attack, led by the impressive Jayden Seales, all chipped in with wickets and none were expensive. Bangladesh may well bring in the exciting but erratic young quick Nahid Rana to bolster their attack with some extra pace and will surely consider a change or two at the top of their order, which failed miserably in Antigua.
The pitch generally offers assistance to both pace and spin during red ball matches but has been kind to batsmen of late, albeit in the shortened white ball versions of the game. With rain forecast, we may well see some interruptions but hopefully, enough play will be possible to produce a positive result. With a testing tour to Pakistan following in the new year, West Indies will want to finish what has been a challenging year, on a high.
