two day matches are rubbish
In reply to velo
I think this is a 3-day match: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Overnight, Athanaze missed out on a century again, he might have an allergy. All the Test batters spent time at the crease except Greaves who got ran out. Score 273/7
Close of Play Score:
West Indies XI: 273 for 7 (74 overs)
Alick Athanaze 98
Kraigg Brathwaite 34
Mikyle Louis 34
Keacy Carty 22
In reply to voiceofreason
Athanaze got out on 99.
Hopefully Jangoo build on that 29* and force his way into the final XI.

Out of the 3 players that are wicketkeepers, IMO Imlach is the least convincing batter. He seems to be liked for his leadership qualities, let's see how things develop.

On current test form, Jayden Seales is one of the best bowlers in the world. Surely he must be in the XI, regardless of the surface.
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Onion believes Seales is simply lucky
In reply to Onionman0
No Seales
He must be there
In reply to imusic
i think Onion is seduced by a need for speed. Seales bowls once fit in every test for WI in the foreseeable future. The real test is whether Roach plays before Philip. and whether they go for 3 spinners which would mean that either Hodge or Greaves will need to take a seat in light of Athas' 99

After listening to a summary of performances on the Caribbean podcast, it was confirmed to me that most of you young posters live in the fast food lane.

In reply to PalsofMine
Who has a ton at the test level would still be my first choice.
In reply to imusic
Not lucky but most talented of the lots.....
Not maximizing his potential by bowling within 125-135 km/hr....
He has the best wrist position...seam position of ball... height... physical advantage....but his speed is like Old English bowlers....can be very effective in bowling conditions but hard surface or subcontinent pitches...no effects.....Mr Caddick, Mr Dominic Cook.....
Once he adds about 10 km/ hr....he can be effective in all surfaces...best in the world...
In reply to PalsofMine
Absolutely...in subcontinent conditions... Pakistan playing Sajid , Abrar and Noman..... England played just single pacer in 2nd & 3rd test...while Pakistan used only spinners in 3rd test....
If a bowler bowls at 130 ...in flat deck.... useless....pace, reverse swing can be effective.....
For me, Phillips can be more effective in the given condition than Seales....even Roach can come in the picture, as he is good exponents of reverse swing..
.In reply to allan
On the bench....

but management more intelligent and they would fulfill your wish ...by playing Seales in playing XI ..

Pakistan going heavy on spin by the looks of it
West Indies XI: 346 for 8 declared from 90 overs.

Greaves along with Roach,/Phillips/ Seales.......shares the new ball....
Three spinners all plays......
Motie, Sinclair & Warrican.......
New Zealand played three spinners against India..
England played three spinners against Pakistan...
Both teams dropped their premier Speedsters.... taking into consideration the pitch conditions....
Dynamic decisions required....
Pakistani resting all frontline fast bowlers....
It's Abrar,Noman& Sajid vs Motie, Sinclair & Warrican..
In reply to anthonyp
Coley needs to make a tough decision and give Jangoo the gloves over Josh. Not sure why they made him the VC as that is the modern day poisoned chalice of WI Cricket. We want to hit the ground running so Jangoo must play. Sinclair's returns vs a Select XI not enough to impress me. Kraigg can bowl off spin too.
My Team:
Louis
Brathwaite
Carty
Athanaze
Hodge
Greaves
Jangoo
Warrican
Motie
Seales
Roach

Such poor analysis...
Both openers can't be dropped???
Braithwaite can continue.....even if he fails....
Contrary....if both openers fail Braithwaite should be dropped....Louis should be allowed to play his natural game...block, block & get out ..... should be thrown out ..
Sammy can bring back ..Hope & King into test cricket..
Both players have signed multi- year all formats contract with CWI.....clearly indicating their readiness and willingness to play red ball cricket....
So, nothing to do with Sammy ...the dea already done .. it's just regional 4- days tournament both have to play and perform...
Podcast Rubbish!!!!!!
In reply to Onionman0
If Brathwaite fails to perform this series, he is a Goner. Sammy will definitely shake things up. You think that those guys Hope and King signed multi- format extended contracts without Sammy's influence?
I am just hoping that they are made to partake in 4 day regionals as I am not sold on Brandon King for the test arena as he needs to fix his flaws. Hope is a class ODI Player but I believe a 25 test ave after 38 Matches belies his true potential.
In reply to voiceofreason
If Kraigg fails? Gonna be a miracle if he performs
They gonna continue with him though... de man is now one of the greats since he's moving up on the highest runs list for WI
Hurraira is named in the test squad and will open for Pak in de 1st test
Name the most consistent batsman I 2021, 2022, 2023
I am so glad I listened to the podcast
Kraigg and Josh performed well in 2022 and 2023, his stats is below par from what I expected
BTW he is among the top 4-5 batsman in the regional 4-day competition annually
I am sticking with him as the opening batsman
In reply to openning
You expect us to be surprised.

I am so glad to have this data, check this out
Gayle test 103 42.18 15 tons
Sarwan test 87 40.01 15 tons
DM Bravo test 56 36.47 8 tons
Kraigg Brathwaite test 96 33.43 12 tons
Can you name a player who, after playing twenty tests for the West Indies has a better record than Kraigg?
Sir Carl, who people would pay to see; test 102 36.46 13 tons
Here is a link with CWI data.
Highest averages for West Indies in Tests

Louis seems to be copying his idol Shai.
Half truth.....more dangerous than total lie....
https://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/players/1335-kraigg-brathwaite-playerprofile/stats
Since, 2017..... Braithwaite yearly aggregate is abysmal...he was about to be dropped....was anointed to captaincy.... continue his poor performance except for one year, where he averaged 65....
As for other players.....all players since 2020....has been dropped...Bravo, Bonner, Blackwood et al.....some rightly, others unjustly.... average in the same range or better than Braithwaite....
Present team.... Tage,McKenzie,Athanaze,Hodge, Louis Carty all have been in test side for just 1-2 years....are being dropped....but despite given long run.....96 tests....failing every year barring few.... continue..
His time as Captain is surely over.....
His time as opener also over....
Time to move down the order, if not outright dropped...
In reply to Onionman0
What part of the region are you from?
You seem to be a fan who selects a player after a good inning and then drops him.
This team has been struggling for more than a decade. The UB was our last great batsman, yet you and others think dropping a player with the second-highest average among the players is good.
Who would you replace him with? And tell this mb why.
I am a KB fan, Oldsters on this board know it.

MY RESPECT & LOVE... YOU CONTINUE FOR LOOONG......

I am a KB fan,
An unbiased West Indies cricket fan.....
Braithwaite stats since 2017... apart for one year.....varies from poor to mediocre....after playing nearly 100 matches....those stats very poor...
Others were dropped after just few matches
Bonner....38
Bravo....35
Blackwood..30
Tage...32
If these above are given 100 matches unfiltered run....who knows they may end up with better stats...
Great???
Your last great West Indies!!! For me...many lurking around...in various forms... Wickham, Anderson, Johnson,Tage, and many more.....just need backing like Braithwaite got
In reply to Onionman0
That anyone would include Paint in a sentence with Hooper, Gayle, Sarwan or Bravo is comical and while being good, not one of the four was a great test batsman.
30 sinting below 35 is sub par.
Spare me - Paint is one lucky man - mediocrity rules these days.
In reply to Onionman0
CRITERIA...a principle or standard by which something or somebody may be judged, judgements are not the same for everybody.
Match Drawn
West Indies 346/8 (Athanaze 99, Jangoo 63*, M Rameez Jr. 3/64) & 177/5 (Athanaze 58*, Imlach 57*)
Pakistan Shaheens 212/9 (M Huraira 74, Sinclair 3/50) & 128/3 (M Huraira 80)
Game ends in a predictable draw. Athanaze followed up his 99 from the first innings with an unbeaten half century in the second innings, which also brought an unbeaten fifty from Tevin Imlach. Vice captain Joshua Da Silva opened, yet failed again as he was run out for second time in the match. The promising Amir Jangoo could not follow on from his unbeaten half century in the first innings, as he was dismissed first ball. With the ball, Roach, Seales and Warrican were all economical in the second innings, with a pair of wickets claimed by the slow left armer. As in the first innings, both Greaves and Phillip went wicketless and were expensive.
The torists now move to Multan for two back-to-back tests, the first of which starts on Friday.

You have to look at the era and see where our cricket is at.
None of our youngsters' average is in the 30s.
So for anyone to think that referencing the 90's era to 2000, don't get it.
I've shown where Sir Everton the best of his era and George Headley the best of his era, were great equal to Viv and Lara, both of them average higher the any other West Indian.
Don't get me started on Shiv Chanderpaul's accomplishment.
You love Hooper because he was pretty, Carl cannot stand in the same line as Seymour Nurse or Basil Butcher, he was not my favourite, so to mention him shows you are as bad as any other.
We need to consider the era and assess the current state of cricket. None of our young players have batting averages in the 30s.
Hey Bro although we understand that we are in the 30 something era but should we forever accept it? How are we to progress if we should accept it forever? We need to move forward at some point from KB especially if he fails this series as I know Sammy will not continue with him as our main opener. Look at our ODI squad we now have two 40+ average batsmen (Rutherford and Carty) to go with Hope who averages 50+ and we are more competitive by winning series and hopefully soon automatic qualification for the next WC.
In reply to voiceofreason
Replacing nonperformer with players averging below 30s will get you no way
Not one of our present openers fc average is in the high 20s, young Louis shows it takes more than a few good scores before you should be selected at the international level.
You have been around this board for something, we had Lara and Shiv in the 90s and Sarwan and Gayle
Bonner and Tage replacements are not doing better.
We continue to go around in a circle
As a Barbadian I want the BCA to fix the product.
