Teenage Leg Spinner Redwood, one to watch
In reply to Slipfeeler
Yep.. Very impressed with his control!

INTERESTING ACTION
It's three of them... pity LI still stuck on Walsh.
Zishan Motara - from Bim (surprised that he didn't play for WI Academy in the first match)
Micah McKenzie - from LI.
Dem fellas impressing for a few years at the youth level... kudos to Jamaica for giving Redwood a chance. Hopefully LI could do the same for McKenzie.

Lots of promise here. He needs time and guidance
It’s a clean action.
In reply to Raggs
Yep - dat ball sure moved
High point of release in his action plus he’s tall, he spins the ball…
Definitely one for the future.
He needs to develop variations like the greats.
In reply to imusic
He does not pelt like Narine??
In reply to Raggs
What’s interesting about his action has nothing to do with cleanliness.
It’s virtually impossible for a wrist spinner to have an illegal action.
What was interesting to me is how far from his head his bowling hand was at the point of delivery.
In reply to imusic
Well noted...
His run up is modelled around Warne!!

Warne hand bowling big leg spin
In reply to imusic
Which is why I said what I said
He was in the spin bowling /batting coaching camp with alot of the spinners in the region led by sammy and the chenai kings coach.before the fc season start

What a delivery. A good leggie in any format is priceless.
Well done Scorpions.
In reply to velo
He uses his entire body not just his arms as most of not all other WI 'spinners'
Makes the JA v Guy match even more interesting as the Guyanese are probably the best batsmen of spin in the region.

Thanks Bro...
does he have a googly ?
This is him at age 15Link
In reply to Raggs
Of course it is. It is impossible for leg spinners (anatomically) to pelt.
It think what iTito was referring to was the quality of the action in terms of the flight, drift, and turn it generates.
In reply to imusic
He might be in the "just spin the ball hard" phase of his development
In reply to Joshua
Good control even then. Still want to know if he has a googly, especially given his Shane Warne-like angle of delivery. Doesn't have to have one if he is very accurate but would make a big difference to the threat he poses at a higher level. Let's be honest .....Windwards has been notoriously vulnerable to any type of spin but especially wrist spin
In reply to Logic
he does doesnt bowl it too often but has other variations. he is still a work in progress will have his ups and downs.
glad he wasnt picked by academy (and hope they won't soon) for two reasons which is jamaica head coach is a legspinner and secondly the captain is more experienced and so knows how to use and back him. if you have a fellow kid captaining a leg spinner at the academy its tougher to develop.
In reply to Logic
Are you worried that he might turn out to be a replica of NoGooglyShoo?
In reply to Jammal22
I don't think his control is all that good. But he's very young and should improve over time. What I think is impressive is his ability to spin the ball.

And take wickets from school days
The regional batsmen can't play donkey drops, let alone genuine leg spin bowling. Look at the top of the bowling averages year after year. Any young spinner who immediately comes on the scene needs to be treated carefully because the cries of "here comes the next great spinner" will soon fall quiet if he is thrown in against international teams that actually can play spin.
I wish the lad all the best but let us be careful and realistic.
Kudos to Coach Kirkland Bailey and his top notch cricket programme at Excelsior High School. There are many more Redwoods in the pipleline
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Spot on. The Mikyle Louis factor needs to be avoided in the future.

Spot on .......

Happy for the young man and wish him the best for the future.
However the little I saw of him did not impress at all as he was
obviously overwhelmed by the occasion and nerves in the first innings when
long hops and full tosses were too many and I did not see a googley.
Neither did he look half as good in command as his current head coach, Haynes who was
highly impressive at an even younger age and earned respect from Lloyd and Richards
in his first two matches at Bina against Guyana and Leewards back in '82.
Pity he was never rewarded with a Test cap even when he toured Pakistan.
Hope young Redwood learns his art and put in in the hard work as his future
looks bright and the need for his type of bowling is an invaluable art to
any Test team.
Good luck son, work hard and dedicate yourself to the Calling. Coach Robert could be your
best mentor at this stage.
