There are Cuban doctors and nurses in Jamaica, but I don't know if they are there as the result of some government-to-government arrangement.

I am sure..The close nit relationship between Cuba and Jamaica goes back well over a century and
was enlarged and magnified by Michael 'Joshua' Manley through his friendship with Fidel during the 70s
when he was Jamaica's PM and exchanges were strengthened and doctors mainly were sent by
Castro to serve Jamaica. And it has continued under different regime
Construction and agricultural projects were also provided to Jamaica...workers too and even
a school named for Cuba's National hero, Jose Marti was gifted to the Island.

Manley earned the wrath of America mainly through Reagan who punished the country severely .
Wonder if the Con, Trump will do similar with the high profile of China in Jamaica.
Would not be surprised if he does something terrible to Jamaica or try to.smile

Yes, real proud of Ralph and Keith.

But there is a mad woman in Trinidad who want to be PM, she is begging Trump to place sanctions in TT.

The covid 19 period was an intense period where governments were backs against the wall as they attempted to ward off an unknown disease that were killing people in droves, while at the same time being robustly opposed by conspiracy theorists who were loud in opposition to vaccines, and were significantly creating and instigating fear in the populations. All over the world, governments had to make tough decisions within that emergency, and some might have erred in the steps they took in genuine attempts to save lives. The conspiracy theorists have waged war on governments all over the world, taking them to courts for breaches of constitutions. In many, many cases, they have lost, but the costs to the states in defending g these claims are never raised. The outgoing PM yesterday mentioned the many challenges to the covid policies his government faced, and the millions of dollars spent in defending them. Some government, like in the case of St. Vincent, may have erred reading the law, and the courts have ruled. But, was Gonzales not trying to save lives like many other places in the world? I, personally, know of several cases where workers lost years of earnings, and destitute, just because they listened to the conspiracy theorists. In some cases, they were forced to repay every cent that they received and spent, while believing the conspiracy theorists, and waiting for court rulings, which were lost. So, Ralph may have erred in reading the law, and maybe overreacted from frustrations from the resistance faced at the time of covid. That does not make his stance in support of Cuba not noble. Many of our health systems in the Islands have survived because of Cuba's assistance. Let us not mix the two events, and i salute those leaders who have come out in support of Cuba and their nations' health, over a US visa.

The video you posted has nothing to do with the issue at hand- which is A rogue USA official, has issued a grave threat to government officials of sovereign nations states regarding these countries government to government cooperation with CUBA, a nation they vowed to destroy for year now in violations of international law.

Don't let your petty domestic St Vincent politics cloud the issue.

You can support him in one policy but go against him on another- that is all fair- but separate the issue.

Did you support Biden on any front? Or were all your clouded by your labeling of him as a genocidal maniac?

Petty local politics you say. Petty to you. You have no clue what people there have faced, in the name of said politics.
He has little moral authority to be pronouncing about unfairness or trampling of rights…in any sphere.

Plus, while this public grandstanding from him and a few others appeases you all, it’s quite shortsighted.

They fully well know that they have no leverage whatsoever, and this bold posturing is really to score cheap political points. What happens when the US says that it’s not just their personal visa but those of the entire population, etc, etc?

The countries would be better served with some attempt at quiet diplomacy to make their case for retaining the valuable service of the Cubans. This fake bravado defeats that.

I think your timeline is a bit off

Manley earned the wrath of America mainly through REAGAN who punished the country severely .

I think Manley's main nemeses were Kissinger and the CIA.

Manley's first regime, 1972-1980, spanned the Nixon- Ford-Carter era ( Reagan came to powerbin January 1981. By the time Manley returned to the helm in 1989 Reagan was getting set to demit office, to be succeeded by Bush, Sr.

I stand corrected.smile
How could I have done this when Mr 'Clean Living' Kissinger was the Stinker leading the charge.
There are some sources that the Kissinger/CIA cabal made three attempts on Joshua's life but were foiled to
top notch Cuban security provided by Fidel.
It is probable credible too but I know Joshua was afforded such security in the turbulent 1980
Election campaign due to his distrust of some high placed Police personnel at the time.
That sad chapter in politics was one of the reasons I decided to migrate for good. Long story.
Some things were too close to home.
Appreciate the correction and reminder.smile
