The British government Wednesday announced that it is imposing with immediate effect, a visa requirement for Trinidad and Tobago nationals wanting to travel to or transiting the United Kingdom, including on short visits. London said that this is in addition to established requirements to obtain a visa to travel to the UK for the purpose of work, study and settlement.

Now one has to wonder if it has anything to do with the Cuban saga. They tend to ban together against third world countries but have no courage to ban together against Trump and his craziness.

No. I don’t think so. The document said unjustified asylum seekers. A few of them are criminals actually, as shown by one of our dailies in an investigative piece. Something similar happened in the 80s when Trinis was flying over to Canada and seeking asylum, some crying racial discrimination, some citing other frivolous reasons. Long story short, Canada investigated, found it to be untrue and imposed visa restrictions on us for the next 30+ years. Only last year did the Canadian government state that trinidadians can travel without a visa, and that is only if you have an American visa

I doubt the numbers would have been concerning enough ‘this year’ to warrant this action. Was it a sweeping move against multiple countries?

Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, has formally lodged a complaint with the United Kingdom over its recent decision to impose a visa requirement on Trinidad and Tobago nationals traveling to the UK.

In a meeting with His Excellency Jon Mark Dean, UK High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Minister Browne expressed concerns over the lack of prior notice and the absence of a collaborative approach in addressing the UK’s concerns about asylum seekers.

UK now requires visas for T&T nationals
‘Financier helping gang members in asylum bid’

FOR nearly two years, one of the chief financiers of the Seven gang based in the United Kingdom has been secretly helping gang leaders and their members in their bid to seek asylum in the UK, as the Seven gang sought to expand their criminal network in that country.

The UK government declared yesterday that due to a surge in asylum seekers from T&T (totalling 797 over the past two years), all nationals from the country will now require a visa to enter the UK.

I didn't see your thread before I posted the above...
