Former captain Dwayne Bravo has strongly criticised West Indies Cricket for their decision to replace Rovman Powell as T20I captain with Shai Hope.
Under Powell’s leadership, West Indies enjoyed a resurgence in T20 cricket, securing home series victories against India, England and South Africa. He also guided the team to the Super 8 stage at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and played a key role in the team’s rise from ninth to fifth in the ICC T20I rankings.
The former all-rounder took to social media and claimed the decision was ‘sad on all levels’ and claimed ‘injustices towards players still continues’.
“As a former player and a fan of WI cricket this is easily one of the worst decisions ever @ravipowell52 taking over captaincy when our T20 team was in 9th spot and was able to move up to 3rd sport in the rankings and this is how you guys repay him the bad treatment towards players when would it Stop!

He has the wrong passport my brother, despite his Herculean leadership on WI T20 team. New CWI leadership trying to appease Bajans, especially with Paint stepping down, did you realized that both news were almost announced at the same time?

Quite simply….,..Shai Hope backstabbed his former skipper.
Isn’t that what peeps on here insisted happened when Courtney Walsh and Hooper were removed as captain?
Same ting no?

I think the difference here Tito is that Shai didn't go around publicly proclaiming himself as the rightful heir apparent and that he had a god given right to the captaincy.

hoss....with a 25+ average in 38 tests, if shai had even suggested that captaincy was somehow in his future, he'd be considered as delusional as carl hopper and his supporters

Although, Powell did a commendable job as captain but his own performance may be the reason for sacking....his abject surrender before any spinner.....most teams employ several spinners...his automatic selection as batter.... becomes debatable...

Two questions one to you Onionman and the other to CWI re T20 captaincy.
1. Are you conveniently li ING in the past re Rovman's failure to spin in WI colors?
2. How many T20 captains has CWI removed (and even reinstated) in the last 5yrs i.e. within 2 world tournaments and what is the goal of those decisions?

A guess Hope's propensity to play the short ball isn't a factor.

Correct. It's all politics from the Shallow crew. That's one reason WI will not rise again.

Bro Jamaicans have been getting the short end of the stick. How do you explain the treatment of McKenzie, Blackwood, and now Powell?

Any captain in any format....... Must be automatic .... unfortunately, his fall started during qualifiers in Zimbabwe...... couldn't play associate spinners....was ultimately, dropped in final few matches....
His captaincy is good but his position as player is questionable.....
The new selection policy by CWI, where performance data matters....may, I say may be his nemesis.....
Although, I criticized Sammy appointment....as the process adopted was bad in law...... But the results has proven....Sammy is in right direction till date......

How do you explain the treatment of McKenzie, Blackwood, and now Powell?
To my mind ... McKenzie is right back into frame....may be in South Africa A tour team.....
Blackwood, is going through a phase... I may say Chase phase....Chase became a bowler...toured Australia as bowler....but now back to where he belongs top order batter.... Blackwood, must concentrate on batting and solely batting....his natural batting....
Powell...check above post...
