The sneaky bastards will make the announcement at 4pm, when the stock markets close. Obviously, they are hoping the markets don't crash and burn.

Trump “liberation day” will be more like “termination day” according to Ontario Premier Doug Ford. The retaliatory measures from Canada other countries will certainly make many Americans lose their jobs, thanks to Trump’s idiotic trade war.

Such a stupid idea. No manufacturers moving back to US, because who knows what will happen in 2 to 3 years time. They will look for other markets and just wait out the tariffs instead of building huge plants that just end up being white elephants in the future.
Labor cost here does not support this kind of investment.

In the meantime, just continue the genocide in Gaza to support the blood lust of certain Americans

Ford got lot of fighting talk and i don't think Canada has the economic might to back it up. Canadians will suffer big time if Trump goes ahead with the planned 25% tariffs.

They better hope those numbers soften by this afternoon.

The U.S. was once a manufacturing leader, but by the early 80s, the economy shifted toward a knowledge based model. It was driven by globalization, and with technology and innovation higher value industries and services were formed. Now Trump wants to turn the clock back. Archaic way of thinking.

Yes both countries will be hurt. Trump wants a race to the bottom. Slap 25% tariff on countries and not expect retaliation?
The US imports over 2 million cars each year. Car prices are going up for Americans. Inflation will go up. Trump’s protectionist policy will cause an economic downturn worldwide.

The tariffs are to pay for the tax break that that Oligarchs and 1%ers will get so they can support him to break the constitution and become president for life.

Trump is an ass! NAFTA was created to compete with China in the manufacturing sector. American companies were the first to renege on the deal and moved their manufacturing to China, thus hurting the Mexican economy. Mexico in turn welcomed the Chinese as a partner to make up for the loss. Then came tariff man to correct a perceived wrong that was actually started by the Americans.
I worked for a manufacturing company that moved their manufacturing from Mexico to China 16 years ago and many people lost their jobs. Thankfully, I saw the writing on the wall and took preemptive measures and transitioned into a different career path going on 17 years now.

before that it happened. The first great manufacturer of electronics and vehicles in the post war era was Japan. The US was concerned that the country would go communist as the years following the war were extremely difficult and it was already in the orbit of the USSR and China. As a result, either in 57 or 58, they started to give Japan a series of billion dollar small interest loans. That set the stage for the expansion of people like toyota and especially nissan. I wasn't around but i do know that in the 60s and early 70s, most of the cars in TT were either American or British. Cortinas and Escorts were very popular. Coming into the late 70s, datsuns and toyotas became very popular and later Nissans. And it wasn't only in cars. Japan's post war prosperity of the 60s, 70s and 80s was primarily based on consumer electronics. All those hi fi sets that were a right of passage for any young man back then, the vast majority of them came from japan: sansui, pioneer, hitatchi, technics....all japanese companies. In fact, after about ten years following 57/58, American manufacturers started to complain that they were getting stiff competition from japanese manufacturers. i think some protectionist policies were put in place but it didn't slow down he pace of japanese manufacturers

There may still be some good news as it looks like Canada is exempt from the further baseline 10%. So they will still have the previous tariffs and the across the board tariff on motor vehicles ...

We wait in anticipation smile
