See what it was intended for and how the USPS and others practically subsidize businesses from developing Countries...like China....the same China that many here claim has a better and competing economy with the US.

Most of you all like to talk but have no idea what is really causing inequities and hurting others.

From what little i know the USPS is one of the only govt business organisation. it is enshrined in the Constitution.

it was a way to reach the rural community and whilst it makes money it is at times subsidize by the US government so that the cost of posting is keep below market rate. that way the whole of the US benefits from this govt subsidy.

over the years it has declined in usage because of various Republicans trying to handicap it for their business friends in the shipping business to the extent that they are trying their best to privatise and has even passed law or allowed private postal business to have boxes at USPS offices

Much of what you just said is true....but my point is international shipping not domestic.

In fact tt is now cheaper to post mail from China to the US than it is to send from NY to NJ!

No one sends letters anymore....Businesses email, individuals text!

It is all about trade and economics no2....why are Ameericans on the back foot?

The tricky Republicans who want to.privatize The USPS tried bankrupting it by demanding it's pension fund be finan Ed 40yrs in advance! The man Trump appointed set schedules that would ensure trucks left sorting places without mail to sabotage service. But if it is privatized customers will be paying courier services 12 times more for less services

Man most of the post you have made so far is just emotional fear mongering.

I do not know why they want to privatize the USPS but right now, the USPS is wasteful. From the little i know, that is the truth.

The USPS is delivering g more packages than ever, and making less than ever!

Their bread and butter was airmail, us mail, letters....however you choose to call it or focus....now that bread and butter is gone and they have to compete with UPS, FedEx DHL and now even Amazon on that front...

Times have changed....all businesses have changed....so am not surprised that there is interest in changing there as well.

But I know your emotional unfounded talk is nonsense.

you are not pulling back the sheets to see the reason why the USPS service has languished whilst private business in that space has thrived.

your argument is quite superficial

Steuups. Pull back what sheets? Who has thrived? Man all shipping companies in US are sowewhat running on fumes....just that the USPS is oldest with policies that are based on a since changed market.

You always want to play this game. as if you know more than others.....You just a moment ago did not know the real issues facing American postal system that is rooted in trade, but you an expert now?

Man bring something substantive or hush your mouth.

The basis on which the USPS was constructed is no longer valid.....How's that?

Can you state why it is?

Should it be privatized? I hope not. But there are serious issues with it certainly was not meant to do the job it is now doing.

What is not being said and is never seen here is that Trump placed tariffs on China in 2018.....those tariffs resulted in companies running to other Countries.

Vietnam was one of them.

The Biden administration kept those tariffs in place.

If it was such a disaster, why was it kept in place?

If it was not effective, why did manufacturers find alternate Countries? Many doing so even during the pandemic? Or soon after?

It worked.

You all particularly all those who cant wait to proclaim the demise of the US and were touting the rise of China.....when last have you seen them post?

I do not root for one Country over another. I live in the US....i have been here long enough to see what various policies have resulted in for life in the Country.

I was part of the Tourist Industry in St.Thomas when things started to decline there in the early 2000's due to policies.

I saw what was coming and heade to the Mainland.

I was on the mainland when the Banking Industry was shaken up due to policy changes and was part of the Big 3.

I saw the change in my paycheck when we could no longer offer certain things to consumers.....i left that.

I was part of the communications Industry when major shifts took place as well....I hardly lasted a year.

I see the pros and cons and have adjusted. Many will have to adjust, to this am sure.

But the system as it is now is not sustainable for Americans.

Are there any alternative countries for them to run to now??? That’s what is different! You think it’s wise for companies to move their manufacturing from country to country????

But that's the point....They ran last time....Where they gonna run to now?

If tariffs are not effective, why did they run last time?

The man thinks they will come back to the US....am not sure. But the fact is, you cant have your goods tariffed while you buy from those same Countries in greater quantity and not require anything from them.

The decline of life for average Americans have been tied to the demise in Industry.

The rise of other Countries has been tied to their strength in Industry.

What are we still talking about here?

If Obama had done this also when he went after the Banking system, for good reason....would you all be up in arms?

Nixon opened up America to China because the U.S. gov't and US corporations wanted to exploit cheap unregulated labour.

They gutted U.S. manufacturing in the name of capitalism and profits.

Bt that's my point. Exactly! You are wsaying the same thing i am.

I actually do need a tablet. My wife wants to change her phone. We both have note 9's.

I see children with hardly a job walking around with brand new iphones while am here with my note 9 on it's second screen. My wife's on her second screen and 3rd battery.

We are not consumerist. When we went to Grenada I got really sick with the flu....might have been covid. So on the flight back i put my tablet in my waterproof bag....i intended to take it right back out. but i was so sick i never touched it. So happens i also had a bag with ice.....my way of getting past the no liquids....well that melted and the condensation was so pronounced it entered the tablet.

The screen now can barely work outside, and half the screen is black for the first couple minutes. I still holding on.

Now i may have to get one quick before the price sky rockets.

Point is, Cuba has been making do for decades with the same US made cars that everyone swears is junk.

While most Americans have two plus vehicles....at least most households. My inlaws have 2 girls under 22 and they have 4 cars....both parents work from home!

Americans think they need more than they do.

I saw a list on Motor trend of all the cars made in the US, there was over 100 of them and not all are American companies. Why have these companies built plants in the US while American companies are running to Canada and Mexico?

American companies have spent years turning the public into voracious consumers.....it is not necessary. Let them tighten their belts some so more people can make a decent living from their hard work.

Last am going to post on this.

Americans led the World ion many things that resulted in many people migrating to the Country.

These people, no matter who they were took advantage of the opportunities and America became a leader in many sectors. A leader also in inovation.

The culture of those seeking a better life made the US ripe for the consumerist attitude.

The rich started preying on this. But as the appetite for comfort and things grew, so did the workforce and cost of employing the American worker.

As these workers fought not to be left behind, the rich who gained their wealth off the backs of the US people started looking elsewhere to grow their wealth while continuing to rely largely on the American consumer as their base.

Now America Imports way more than it exports because they are too greedy and comfortable to realize thast their hunger for more is costing them more than they are gaining.

Yes. I believe Americans need to be shocked back to a more reasonable median. Yes it will hurt, all correction of all types hurt. But in the grand scheme of things ot is better than the direction people are going.

In the end, it may result in more dependency on locally grown and locally made with fewer options. they will live.
