Ontario, another taste of winter in the middle of spring
Cold air sagging out of the Arctic will spill over Ontario to start the new workweek, bringing below-seasonal temperatures and snow to the province. Some areas could see up to 15-25 cm of accumulation through Tuesday.
This midwinter-like chill is certainly a disappointing development for warm-weather lovers. This is Canada, after all, where cold and snow are commonplace well into the spring months.
Sunday’s storm track will remain south of the province, with falling temperatures likely throughout the day as our Arctic trough moves into the region.Monday will see a low-pressure system move into the Great Lakes. By the late afternoon hours, snowfall is forecast to push across northeastern Ontario and spread into eastern Ontario.Cold winds streaming over the Great Lakes behind the system will give rise to bands of lake-effect snow into Tuesday. This will enhance snowfall accumulations downwind of the lakes. The Bruce Peninsula could ‘win’ this round of wintry weather, with 15-25 cm of fresh snow on the ground by Tuesday.
This surge of unusually cold weather will prove short-lived, with more seasonable temperatures returning by the end of the week.

Black Ice and numerous collisions closed Don Valley parkway...Section of southbound DVP closed after vehicles crash, police say
Toronto emergency services are responding to multiple collisions in the city on Tuesday morning amid reports of black ice and slippery road conditions."I don't think anyone anticipated slippery conditions or frost at this time of year, so they haven't adjusted their driving potentially," Lentsch said. The southbound Don Valley Parkway is closed at Don Mills Road and Bayview/Bloor ramps after a reported 6-vehicle crash, Toronto police said.
A separate three-vehicle collision happened on the Gardiner Expressway E. and York Street around 5:34 a.m., police said. There are no reports of injuries and drivers are advised to consider alternate routes.
There are also collisions at Lake Shore Boulevard W. and Bay Street, as well as Sheppard Ave W. and Bathurst Street in North York, said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Paul Lentsch. Some drivers may have already removed their winter tires, he added. People are asked to slow down and drive according to weather conditions. The City of Toronto is planning to address weather conditions with crash trucks and possible salt trucks, he said.Slippery road conditions and patches of black ice have been reported at multiple locations, paramedics said.
note: On the Niagara Escarpment ( 150m) above Lake Ontario, temperatures will plunge 10-15°C below seasonal by Tuesday. Plus that wind is about 40 clicks COLD.( minus 25C tonite)
I didn't plug in my diesel vehicle overnight; it was too cold to start this morning.
