Ontario, another taste of winter in the middle of spring
Cold air sagging out of the Arctic will spill over Ontario to start the new workweek, bringing below-seasonal temperatures and snow to the province. Some areas could see up to 15-25 cm of accumulation through Tuesday.
This midwinter-like chill is certainly a disappointing development for warm-weather lovers. This is Canada, after all, where cold and snow are commonplace well into the spring months.
Sunday’s storm track will remain south of the province, with falling temperatures likely throughout the day as our Arctic trough moves into the region.Monday will see a low-pressure system move into the Great Lakes. By the late afternoon hours, snowfall is forecast to push across northeastern Ontario and spread into eastern Ontario.Cold winds streaming over the Great Lakes behind the system will give rise to bands of lake-effect snow into Tuesday. This will enhance snowfall accumulations downwind of the lakes. The Bruce Peninsula could ‘win’ this round of wintry weather, with 15-25 cm of fresh snow on the ground by Tuesday.
This surge of unusually cold weather will prove short-lived, with more seasonable temperatures returning by the end of the week.
