Guyana Harpy Eagles captain Tevin Imlach is among six candidates that are presently engaged in an interview process to succeed Kraigg Brathwaite as skipper of the West Indies Test team.

This is according to prominent Barbadian cricket commentator Andrew Mason, who revealed the information via a voice-note on the digital messaging platform WhatsApp.

“The six players who were interviewed were Roston Chase, Joshua DaSilva, Tevin  Imlach, Jomel Warrican, John Campbell, and Justin Greaves. I am told that two former Test captains are part of the selection process. All candidates went through psychometric testing. A second round of interviews are to be conducted shortly, after which the West Indies Test Captain will be announced” Mason noted.

Roston Chase, Joshua DaSilva, Tevin Imlach, Jomel Warrican, John Campbell, and Justin Greaves

None of these guys are sure picks in the team

Chase - in and out, mostly out in recent times. the most experienced
DaSilva - was out of the last series. experienced enough
Imlach - too new, but maybe we can pull a Graeme Smith here
Warrican - not a sure pick on non turning tracks
Campbell - just getting back after serving a ban
Greaves - in and out again

Why not Alzarri Joseph?

Six very weak candidates which confirms that we are in very serious trouble. A captain should command his pick and such is not the case with Da Silva who was dropped from the Pakistan team as VC, Chase has been dropped from the test team the past two years, Warrican is in and out and so out that he hasn’t played 3 consecutive games, Campbell has not been back since his ban and at age 31, with a highest test score of 68 and ave of 26 after 20 tests , he shouldn’t even have interviewed ahead of Arthanaze. Greeves is also in and out and Imlach is unproven with just two tests. Our only solution at this this time is to swallow our pride and go back to Jason Holder or Hope

RA you are right. It’s a huge step back and I’m not sure it will solve anything much apart from the fact that once available and healthy his pick is sure unlike any of the six interviewed. Da Silva would’ve been the guy but you can’t make him captain after he was dropped for Imlach in our recent series against Pakistan. The only other player I can think of is Alick Arthanaze, though his pick is not cemented but apart from Brathwaite, Arthie is the only other player who has played in 13 consecutive games and, the only one to have scored a 50 or more in their last four series against England, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan. So I’m going to gamble with him
