Cricket West Indies (CWI) has formally written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) insisting that the unique configuration of West Indies cricket be fairly accommodated in ongoing discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding qualification for cricket at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In its correspondence, CWI outlined two inclusive and practical qualification pathways that would enable sovereign Caribbean nations—many of which have deep Olympic legacies—to participate in Olympic cricket in accordance with the values and requirements of the Olympic Charter.

Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of Cricket West Indies, made a compelling call for fairness and inclusion:

“The Caribbean has always punched above its weight at the Olympics, inspiring the world with our athletic brilliance. Cricket’s return to the Games in 2028 must not exclude our young cricketers from the same dream that has inspired our athletes. The Olympic Charter emphasizes fairness, transparency, and universality. We are simply asking that these principles be upheld—not just in spirit, but in structure. West Indies cricket must have a pathway, and fully deserves an opportunity to compete.”

Ignorance is rampant with these clowns. Is there a WI Olympic Committee affiliated with the IOC and one that
supercedes a Jamaica Olympic Committee, as an example .???? lollol

CWI asks ICC for 'fair and transparent' pathway to LA28 Olympics

The heart of the problem here is that while in cricket many countries compete under the name West Indies and are administered by the same cricket board (CWI), the Olympics only allows sovereign nations to contest. There can be no team in which for instance, Barbadans, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Guyanese, St. Lucians play in the same team, even though that is how regular cricket is organised.

So any attempt by VOR to get his Leewards and or Windwards team(s) to represent us will certainly end in failure.

Well, I guess the champion team from the Caribbean should be the team to enter the Olympics

Is Great Britain a sovereign nation?

cricket could well fit team from the WI into the olympics. Trinidad and Tobago went to the champions league and i could say with a certain degree of confidence that in the t20 format, they were contenders for sure. But i don't know if CWI isn't reading the tone in the world. Nobody cares about smaller territories anymore. who can generate the most money is what matters. i suspect the olympic t20 will go the same way as the world cup in the US went...........plenty indian fans for the matches involving India, and next to no support for everyone else

Isn’t that an argument for going it alone?

Cricket West Indies’ proposal comes in light of the current Olympic rules that would exclude West Indies Men and Women teams from Olympic participation. Given this situation, CWI is advocating for either:

If rankings are used and West Indies men and women teams technically qualify, an internal qualifying tournament among its Olympic affiliated member countries will determine which country represents the West Indies; or
A global qualifying pathway that includes associate ICC members in the 5 ICC Development Regions plus member countries of the West Indies.

Curious—I wonder how many of you posters actually read the article.

In fact, I wonder how many of you commenting on this thread are familiar with the criteria for a cricket team’s participation in the LA olympics.
