Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Roston Chase as West Indies Test Captain for the upcoming home series versus Australia in June, with Jomel Warrican named as Vice-Captain. The appointments were unanimously approved by the CWI Board of Directors during its meeting held today, May 16, 2025.

This announcement follows the completion of a groundbreaking, robust and structured process to evaluate and recommend the next captain and vice-captain of the West Indies Test team.

Recognizing the critical role of leadership in shaping team culture, driving performance, and ensuring long-term success, CWI adopted a data-informed, multi-dimensional framework to guide the selection. This marks a significant evolution in how leadership appointments are made, aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and alignment with modern cricketing standards.

Interesting move, looks like they have a different angle of approach, maybe the scientific way. This means for one thing Chase, at least for this series, can't be dropped, and everyone else can be dropped.

Congrats Chase. Best choice especially for medium/ short term.
Did not have much interest in process, but Chase is a player I like.
He will have success too.

I hope Chase finds form and plays his best cricket because nothing demotivated like a failing leader. At the best of his abilities with vat and ball he's as good as or better.than most in the region

I don’t get it. I understand Chase but Warrican as vice captain? So with two sure picks as spinners are they going to play three spinners or Motie will be dropped? Or does that mean we are going to prepare slow wickets like Pakistan and therefore four crown pace attack is a thing of the past? Or are we going to play 3 seamers along with Chase and Warrican? Or are they going to drop one of the batsmen? I just can’t see our best eleven being picked with Chase and Warrican at the top

It's true with these two selected as Cap/Vice-Cap, the selection of the best available combination will be a challenge, but you must admit Warrican has been our best spinner.
